The coffee was good nothing to write home about but I would drink it again. The egg sandwich was also just alright (in my opinion the bread needed to be toasted more). My favorite part about this place was the setting. It's off the main strip a little bit, has lots of seating, WiFi and good music! The quality at Local's has fallen recently. It's still a great environment to be in, but there is a noticeable difference in the food since I first came a few months ago. The french toast that used to come out fully dressed in fresh berries is now served with a cup of jelly instead. The "hash browns" for breakfast are french fries. Little changes like that may not affect a new customer, but as someone who regularly visits for the food, it is a bit disappointing. read more

The fries are disappointing though. We also had the brown sugar cookie which was really good, crispy, sweet and mildly salty. It hit right. You don't have to be a local to enjoy a meal at/from Local's Cafe, though perhaps it'll inject you with a full five stars, similarly to what many of my Yelp chums have rated the place. For me, I'm borderline between three and four celestials, but let me explain why. For starters, I'm writing this review still within the semi-confines of COVID-land so no interior eating was happening (at least not yet) for Local's Cafe. That's completely fine with me (well, us) as this recent Tuesday morning with my girlfriend, her sis, and her mom had us looking for something on the go so we could enjoy a seat and eat at the Harborfront Park. There were a handful of outdoor tables on the side of Local's, but I can't say I'd have wanted to sit there anyway with the people proximity being a little too close for comfort. Just sayin'. Before we continue, let's take one step back in our decision to try Local's. They featured online ordering and pickup which worked well as we were under a slight time crunch for the morning. The menu had a few intriguing options, but we ended up going simple and ordering a bunch of breakfast quesadillas (plus one with chicken). The receipt stated the food would be ready in about 20 minutes. Sounds good, right? Well... I walked over to LC with the lady at the time stated on the receipt to find that they actually weren't (at first) sure where our order was on the computer. After stating we ordered online (not by phone where they were checking), they then located the order and said it should be ready shortly...10-15 minutes later the bag was finally being place in my hands. That makes me wonder if they had even started the order in the first place...hmm. Once over in the park, we opened up our containers to find generous helpings of tortillas filled with egg, bacon, and cheese with a layer of home fries below. A little semi-spicy salsa verde came on the side and rounded out a breakfast priced at a little more than $10. Here's where the females and I might differ (shhh don't tell them!). I personally found the quesadilla to be pretty darn tasty. The eggs were hot and fresh while the bacon had a slight thickness with a little crisp factor (this wasn't some rubbery, fatty pork!). The home fries had pieces of pepper and onion (which I love to see/taste) and the verde sauce really added in a nice balanced kick to the quesadilla. The ladies didn't dislike their meals, but I think they weren't feeling the price and would've been fine just getting bagels and going in that direction. To each his own. Overall, for me, I'd say Local's Cafe had some faults to be mentioned (that seating setup perhaps and definitely the probable order snafu), but I'd say the price matched the portion size and things were fresh and tasty from start to finish. There's enough intrigue here to try breakfast again (or maybe lunch) though I'm not sure when that'll be. Either way, I'll give Local's the push up towards the four stars I feel like it probably deserves, even if I'm just a lowly non-local Yelper (ha!). read more

My family and I decided to stop by this cafe for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was! I got the bacon chicken sandwich but substituted the grilled chicken for a crispy chicken patty instead. The sandwich was freshly made and so tasty. My dad raved about how good his salmon pita sandwich was so if you are a fan of fish, I would definitely give it a try. There are also tons of vegetarian options as well including the tofu bhurji, veggie sandwich, veggie burger, etc. The staff were very nice and accommodating but the food did take some time to come out so if you are in a rush, you may be likely to have to wait. This deli deserves more space than this page has. This is the kind of deli you dream about. The food is plentiful, seasoned well and fresh. The service is outstanding. Long Island this is a true treasure and worth venturing to the north shore to experience it. Also has plenty of parking and it's next to a small park. After so many great reviews we decided to go here for lunch. It was a Friday during the day and downtown Port Jeff was quite busy. This café was not though. My cousin and myself both ordered salads. The salads were very good and the chicken was moist and tender. We were originally only going to drink water and before I left it was such a hot day I wanted to get an iced tea. I sit at the counter for at least 10 minutes the man was helping someone else and the girl looked at me and she just went outside into the kitchen at least three times and I was never acknowledged. You can tell a lot about a person, especially a restauranteur, by the ketchups, condiments, and oils they choose. Owner Jitendra scored really high on my high-quality, healthful food scale on so many levels. For one thing, his salmon pita is so amazing, my husband insisted we stop in on the way to our hotel. They were just closing the kitchen, hadn't been their usual busy, but Jitendra caved and made us the pita salmon. Wow. It was more than wonderful. Memorable. It was served with a homemade wasabi-aioli, that oozed out over the lettuce and tomato on the sturdy delicious pita. So good. I eyed ketchup bottles for our side of French fries, which we ordered in addition to the included cole slaw--a well-done no mayo slaw that was generous and delicious. But the ketchup, I kid you not, was Trader Joe's, organic with NO HIGH FRUCTOSE. Awesome. And, like I said, tells me a lot about he quality of the food in this place. Forgot to ask him what kind of oil he uses in his fryer--hoping it's not Canola. I'll update when I find out. I would guess he uses a better oil though, based on the rest. Great cafe spot right in Port Jeff for catching up with friends, grabbing a quick bite, or setting up shop to study at all day! Love the interior with its plants and some seating available along the window and small tables, or seating outside on a nice day! I brought my boyfriend to try the coffee (as I don't drink coffee) and he felt that the iced coffee tasted burnt so he ordered the matcha latte afterwards, which he enjoyed more. I always get the crispy chicken sandwich which comes with perfectly seasoned fries on the side. You wouldn't expect such good food from a small cafe but this chicken is battered perfectly and topped with a zingy hot sauce and blue cheese. Leftover sauce was definitely used for fries! The portion size is perfect and enough to keep me full all afternoon. My boyfriend tried the bacon chicken sandwich, which also came with fries, and he also enjoyed his meal. Has all the fundamentals to be a fantastic place - they have more than 15000 of equipment (espresso machine and and grinders) - but like other reviewers have noted, their unpaid/minimally paid summer interns can barely manage customers let alone make half way decent coffee 1) terrible service - 18 year old overworked kid who comes across as rude and unwelcoming and it's not her fault it's the owners fault 2) barely mediocre coffee - scalded milk, overextracted and bitter shot. This is the true tragedy here - with their setup they could put out beautiful third wave coffee but the staff doesn't know how to use the equipment - doesn't clean the portafilters, just grind directly, shitty tamp, pull a garbage shot, overheat some milk to the point of scalding, and hand it to the customer Like $2 diner lattes taste the same so why are you guys charging $5 for a "flat white" that's total garbage?? Let me start by saying that the food here never disappoints. The coffee is great, I usually get an iced/hot latte, have zero clue what they put in their coffee but it is crack! Lol. I usually get their sweet quinoa salad with tofu. The tofu is nice and crispy and it just tastes amazing! I have been here multiple times and never had a bad experience but recently the service has been so slow. This most recent time I ordered and the system must not have printed our ticket to the kitchen. I let the staff know I have been waiting and they just said sorry it never went through it'll be out soon after I've been waiting 40 minutes already. I waited an hour total for my food to come out for it to be completely wrong. I got the Avocado egg toast which comes with a sunny side egg and home fries.
