Came here for a work event - we booked out the entire place. The game is pretty fun and easy enough to understand, no experience needed whatsoever! The fact that there are 9 "courses" meant that many people could play at the same time, and the rules and scoring system were very straightforward and well organized. The environment is laid back and relaxed with friendly and helpful staff. The food was just a little disappointing. We had several appetizers including pretzel bites, nachos, buffalo wings, fries, etc. but there wasn't anything that was particularly impressive. I did appreciate that the oil and salt levels appeared to be lower relative to other bars and pubs! What I really did not enjoy were the mocktails - I tried all 4 on the menu and 2 of them were downright unpalatable. Definitely room for improvement there. That being said, I would still recommend this place for social events as they were able to accommodate our large group, and did so fairly seamlessly. read more

Came here for a gathering event lately. They offer lawn bowling here which is fun and good for team building. Don't expect too much on the food here though. Chicken wings were too salty. Just went here for a holiday work party. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was pretty fun. Cause we did it through work I'm not sure about costs though. There are 9 courses you go through so I think it will take up at least an hour of your time. You go in groups of 4 and compete against each other. You get 2 balls, a little ball bag to hold them in and you each pick a colour (red, blue, orange and green). Highest score wins. I got a 37 and won in my group. According to their rating system that's rock lobster level. Lol. For food, we had fries, spicey chicken sandwiches, some garlic bread, naan and spreads, nachos etc. Notes - entrance is down an alleyway and a small narrow staircase if mobility is a concern. Bathrooms are on same floor so no issues there. Overall, it was fun and I wouldn't mind going again. I recommend more for big groups and team building. read more

What an incredible experience. I came in excited to hang out with my colleagues and had very little expectations about lawn bowling/bocce-golf. I was very impressed by the course and how much fun we had. Their beer selection was pretty good at a very reasonable price, they had a good list of food available and since we came on a Wed, we took advantage of the half price burger with a purchase of a drink. Lawn bowling/bocce-golf - there are 9 holes/tracks (just like golf), they had a table where you can get all of the things you need to get started and a staff is there to explain to you all the rules. Since we had drinks with us, they had a barrel table at each hole with a coaster of the color of ball you were playing with (genius idea so you don't mix up the drinks). To get in there is a $25 fee to play but everything is priced very reasonably. This would be a great idea for a date and a fun hangout spot with your friends! read more

This place was so fun! We made a reservation for a Saturday night and it was pretty busy but not too much that it interferes with game play. We stopped at the bar first then over to the course for an explanation of how to play. It's a very fun game that anyone can do. We ended up playing three rounds with breaks in between at our table for drinks. Everything is very well organized and there are lots of benches and barrels to place your drinks along the way. Lob certainly fills a niche in the market. I think the best situation I see it fitting is when you want to get a large party together for food/drinks with an optional activity to do. A place where your friends can drop by and go as they please. The place has a good vibe going on, busy but you'll still be able to find a seat. The unique part is the game of Lob, which is a hybrid of bocce and mini putt. If you're coming just for the game, you'll be disappointed. You throw 2 weighted balls on a green course to aim at a stick on the ground. The closer you are the more points. $15 for unlimited play, which is kind of steep because it's not that fun of a game. Food and drinks were good though! We went three months ago and the payment system was a little disorganized but could be better now. After we finished playing the whole circuit (7-10~ courses/rounds), none of us really felt like playing again. So something you try once and not bother again, a gimmick to attract customers in the door. The good thing is you don't really wait too long for a turn as the people move along in a cycle through the course. Food was much better than standard pub affair. They have huge portions, feels like it's meant to be shared. We ordered the jerk ribs and it was delish though slightly charred on some parts. Can be spicy for some with low tolerance of spice but the dill sauce that came with cools it off. They also feature an interesting drink menu of mostly local breweries. What an exciting concept! I've played bocce before, but never like this. I brought my partner here for his birthday, along with a couple friends on a Saturday night. I called to make a reservation ahead of time, but it wasn't too busy around 7:30 pm, and we got in right away. The concept is really simple - bocce meets golf. And the staff there are very friendly and will explain the rules at the beginning, and will hang around and cheer you on through out! :) LOB is best played if you have a group of 4 - as there are 4 colours of balls. If your group is bigger, maybe break apart into a couple groups. The $20 entrance allows you to play as many times as you'd like, and bonus! you can take your drink around the space with you. They have perfectly situated tables to help you out. There is no pressure to get a table and order anything after the game(s). You can just come in for the LOB! I didn't think I'd have so much fun here, but LOB is definitely one of a kind. It's like Bocci mixed with Mini put, either way it's fun and exciting. BThey've got 15+ courses which you can try in sequential order. They also have table service and do serve up some really good shareables, an extensive list food and great mixed drinks. Our service was top notch and always followed up with us while we were on the play course to ensure we had food and drinks. Do note there is a cover charge upon entering which is approximately $20. Fun time had by all. I came here for a friend's birthday party. There were 12 of us, which made it easy to split up into teams of 4. You go through what is similar to an indoor mini-golf course. The rounds quick, so you're not waiting too long even when it's a packed house. There are designated spots to put your drink so you can have your craft beer while playing, and the servers come by to replenish your drinks often. It's actually really impressive how on-the-ball (heh) they are about it. When you're done throwing balls around, there's a spot to order food and eat. We didn't eat anything when we were there, but the food smelled amazing... usually a good sign. Entry was $20, which was well worth the 3 rounds we played. I would give Lob 3.5 stars if possible. The food was 3 stars but the game experience pushed it to a 4 star level. The food is not that memorable, typical of a downtown pub with burgers, wings and tacos. The game was worth the visit though. The game is very easy to pick up and things get competitive very fast!! There is an instructor that gives a 5 minute tutorial and then you are ready to play. We were lucky to come during a slower night, so there was only one company party sharing the space with us. Luckily they were more interested in drinking, so we were able to play a couple rounds without having to wait at each level for another group to clear the space. read more

This place seemed like a great idea but their service definitely needs some work. SERVICE We arrived before the rush for dinner, drinks and play and ordered bevies and water from who turned out to be the manager. He put our orders in and about 20mins later (no exaggeration) showed up with the drinks. I can only assume they were short staffed but eventually we had a waitress who was taking our orders who was incredibly nice but again the orders were slow coming out. Food came out 30mins (some 40mins) after ordering and some of the dishes had the wrong sides with them. We mentioned it to them just to let them know but we kept the sides to avoid food waste. We ordered round 2 of drinks and they didn't come until I bumped into our waitress mid bocce lob and followed up on our order. She offered to bring it to us while we were playing but seeing how long the drinks were already taking I assume that trying to find us would take that much longer so I asked her to bring it to our table. 10 mins later it arrives. We then order round 3 and found the bottleneck at the bar (the figurative bottleneck). One of the bartenders had a crap attitude and the drinks were pouring like molasses. This seemed like an average night with not too many people and the overall service was slow both on food and drinks (even water). The bill came out fast though, but incorrect. FOOD The food was very good. I had the Lob burger that was layered with flavour and held together nicely. The bacon was a nice addition and wasn't too sweet. The salad was visually appealing but it was quite bland. I felt healthy eating it though.. ENTERTAINMENT Bocce ball sounds like a lot of fun. Their design was good, the flow of the courses were okay (you can be a little confused as to which course to play next), they have people explaining the game and the game itself is a fun concept. Not sure how I feel about this place... The Good: -Emily - the coordinator for large parties - was awesome. Got me everything I needed, was accommodating, responsive. No complaints. -Fun - everyone in our party had a great time, and got at least 2/3 rounds of bocce 9-hole in -Beer selection was decent (we forgot to eat, so no comment on the food) The Bad/Iffy: -I ended up paying a $35+ tip on a 80$ bill because apparently I tipped twice. Automatic 18% gratuity on large groups is fine - but not super cool to not mention this to your customers at payment. -What was the cover? After looking at the bill for 15 people to pay @ 20pp, why was the total 315 and not 300? I paid for 10 people when I walked in ($200), and 5 people midway through the evening ($115). This doesn't add up. Drunk me thought this place was awesome. Sober me, looking back on my receipts/charges and discrepancies, not so much. read more

This place has the potential to get a better review but there are some kinks that need to be worked out to get there. I'll be straight and tell you this review is a long rant because I'm cheesed. If you want to summary, check the last paragraph. I'll start with some good things. We went there for a friend's birthday because she wanted to try the place out. The game you can play there (for a fee of $15) is a mix of 9 hole mini putt and bocce. I have to admit it is a good idea. However, the game gets boring after two rounds and it feels like it would be hard to sustain interest past that. The ambience was like any other food and games place. I'll give two star for game creativity. Next the food. I have to say this was the best part of this place. The food was better than I expected to my surprise. It was better than your average bar food, and maybe that's why I was surprised because that was what I was expecting. I tried the salmon sandwich and the flank steak, and the only problem was the salmon was a bit dry. I'll give them two stars for the food, making it 4 stars on aggregate at this point. Lastly the service and this is where they messed up and lost all their stars. 1) they forgot our appetizers because they didn't put in the order. We ordered the appetizers with our entrees but all our entrees made it...so no idea what happened there. 2) we finished our meals and proceeded to play the game but they took away our table. We had to carry our drinks around while playing. The interesting thing was there wasn't a line of people waiting for a table. 3) they were explaining the game to us. As mentioned above, the game is a mix of mini putt and bocce. There were two marked points where one can throw from, one close and one further back. I wanted clarification on the rule and asked whether it's the "ladies tee". The girl explaining the rule looked at me with a dead serious face and said that's sexist. The other guy that worked there said it's the 21st century. I said it's from golf and both of them looked at me like I'm being crazy and sexiest (with the girl giving me the stink eye). Seriously guys, if your setting up a game that resembles golf with two points that one can start from, that's what people will think. The fact that you took an idea from golf but not even know about it is criminal. I really think the girl explaining the game lived in some sort of bubble...please come out and learn golf. 4) the bills at the end before we left. I covered the meal for the birthday girl and left. Shortly after I receive a text from her saying the server said she hasn't pay yet. As it turns out, we covered for another person that "had the exact same thing". The waitress that settled up said there was a mess up in the system. My guess is it's human error caused by a bad system. Since they took away our table they had no good way of tracking who had what. I understand you want more business, but kicking people out of tables is almost asking for trouble. There is a solution where you can still take away tables but I'll let you guys sit on it because I didn't appreciate stink eye from your staff. At the end, they let my friend go (rightfully so) because we sent them a copy of the bill, and someone else ran out without paying basically. Good luck running a business model like this. Hope no one mortgaged their property to start this business...if they only had decent service they would have received 4 stars. If you've read up to this far, I'm impressed. Overall, if you want to go in for food/drinks only then it should be ok. If you're playing their game, don't expect to much of it. If you're doing both and expecting adequate service, maybe try a golf course. At least you won't get a stink eye unless you're wearing jeans. Needless to say, I will not got back. read more

Unique game bar concept which the hubby and I found really fun! Great little touches too like the bags to carry your bocce balls in and colored markers for your drinks that match the ball colors. The food was actually amazing! I was expecting normal pub grub. We had the chimichurri steak and the mushroom tacos. Oh and yummy cocktails. We had excellent service too- very fast and friendly. My friends and I are always looking for a different place to hang out that isn't only sitting at a bar or restaurant and eating/drinking. That just isn't our style. We like to do some sort of fun activity. The stories that come out of it are always more fun anyway. Lob did not disappoint! After accessing it via a laneway and stairs into the basement level where it was housed (there were a few of "is this where we get murdered?" comments" during the trek) we were pleasantly surprised by how expansive and nice it was down there. The coat check was a nice bonus on a rainy night. We opted to drink first. Once we were appropriately "buzzed" we went to play the game. We of course brought the drinks along - which were delicious! I'm a particular fan of the Leslieville Mule, a bit pricey but delicious. I had 2 of them but then changed to rail drinks so my wallet didn't hate me as much. After some much needed instructions we started on a surprisingly fun match. I love the little touches they had with the colour coded bags and drink markers at each station. The score card came in handy because it also included the point system which we kept forgetting lol. It essentially is laid out like a mini golf course where you go from green to green but you just throw, or "lob", the fist sized ball toward the pole in the middle. There are different ringed areas surrounding the pole that have different values with the pole itself being the most valuable and the points going lower in value the further away you are. Personally I kind of thought it was a bit like Mini Golf meets Curling meets Bocce Ball. We kept knocking each others balls (...that sounds...awkward...hahaha!) out of place and it made for some fun moments of evil glee and devastation. My only complaint is that if there are multiple groups playing there can be a bit of a backlog as you wait your turn to get on a course, which we did. Thankfully we're a pretty chill bunch and they have nice staff on hand to keep bringing you drinks if you like, which we did :) After our match (where I was sadly only 1 point shy of tying for a win!) we went to sit down for food and more drinks. Their seating is cafeteria style, not my favourite but I can understand that they opted to do that in order to maximize the amount of seats they could put in there. With so much of the space being taken up for the courses it makes sense. The food was delicious! I had the burger which was big and messy but I didn't mind. 2 of my friends split the hot wings and cobb salad and our 4th friend had Cauliflower Mac & Cheese which I will be getting the next time I go. 1 random thing that stuck out to me was that their women's bathroom is amazingly well lit. So bright! Wish I had that in my bathroom for when I put on makeup. No clue about the men's but I assume the same applies. Warning: It can make for an expensive night, especially if you're a fan of mixed drinks/wine and love to eat the big hearty stuff...or are just lacking in will-power and can't stick to your frugal intentions. Beer and standard rail drinks are reasonable ($6 I think) and sides or apps can be as low as $5. Overall it was a fun experience. I can't recommend Lob enough! I checked this place out on the recommendation of several friends who had been there several times. We booked a time, enjoyed some delicious food (the chicken sandwhich is to die for - as are the pretzel appetizers (beer-cheese dip: what the what?!)... local beers... but you can't leave without tasting the Diserano Sour (has become my new favorite!)... then on to the game at our tee-off time. Though I have both golfed and played bocce in the past (not well, mind you!), never have they been so accessible (and I'm not just talking in the wheelchair capacity - which it is!!). This year-round activity for large or small groups is a welcome addition to downtown Toronto - it's fun, social, competitive and exciting. I only wish I was the one who came up with the concept - I can't see a city that wouldn't want this as a highlight! read more

Work function with about 30 people - likely would have spent over 2000$ - no consideration with game costs (15$+) per person which is paid for up front. Instructions and shepherding group not so good - disorganized service - one young lady said she was very hungover. Food okay - very expensive for what you get. Would not recommend for group work functions and see this business failing in the new year unless some things improve. read more

Heard about LOB via a friend and had to check it out! Had to say the game was really fun and it was easy to get right into!! We stayed to have a bite to eat along with some drinks - would highly recommend the Disaronno Sour! This is a new game at a new venue with new (and mostly young) staff so while there were a couple of very small hiccups the staff were very curteous and helpful! Our group had lots of fun (we laughed a lot!!) and we will definitely be going back! So nice to have this kind of thing in the neighbourhood! read more
