If you're looking for a slice of Europe without having to 'cross the pond' (fly over the Atlantic…read moreOcean), try Village Square in Burlington. Atlhough small area-wise, it has an European charm - including the iconic London red phone booth! Made up of a few blocks in downtown Burlington (steps from the waterfront, Brant Street Pier, and Spencer Smith Park), Village Square has a number of restaurants, patios, pubs, and unique specialty shops and services. Think of it as an outdoor mall. It reminds me of a cross between Toronto's Yorkville and Distillery District (albeit smaller and more compact). The place can be a bit quiet in the morning, but comes alive at night with lights and sometimes live music (especially in the summer months).

This is a truly amazing place. It seems unknown to people in Toronto but I definitely like it and…read morewill visit more often. It is set up like an European village with its narrow alleys and cobblestones. There are many restaurants, specialty shops and services. It can be considered an outdoor mall. It is located near the up-and-coming waterfront area in Burlington, which has so many restaurants and an excellent boardwalk and playground and so many condos being built. The decor of each building has an old European look. The closest equivalent in Toronto is The Distillery District but Village Square is smaller and butter implemented in my opinion. It was a busy place on a Saturday night with most of the restaurants filled. There are little nooks and crannies are that very photographic. There is even a musician to entertain people.

I had family visiting from out of the country. We took them to Winners for shopping. This location…read moredecided to paint the washroom which they must provide for guests in the middle of the day. They put a typed sign up saying washroom closed. Okay, right. But they left the door open and did not do anything other than put a piece of paper on the door that could have easily been missed. it did not work. My mother in law for paint on her Etro bag and Nike golf vest. They offered her a 50 buck coupon in return for this damaged goods after we had left the store and apparently talked to their customer service department. I also spoke to the HR person Nikki. She phoned me back the next day and said, the sign was there so that is that. I asked to speak to her manager. He could not have cared less. He did not even phone me back like he said he would. Hey manager, 87% of meaning on the phone is from your tone. You could have at least tried to care. You did not care my family was yelled at by the manager in the store. She said she didnt yell but when I went in to help, she was very calm with me and said she was not yelling, she just talks loud. Well, not with me which means she was yelling. I am so disappointed in this store and the compassion from their staff; especially in their Customer Service Department. My family and I have spent thousands at this company over the years. When asked what I wanted I said to be respected. The guy in CS threw this back in my face and said I could not even tell him what I wanted; and then did not phone me back when conducting another internal review of what happened. Clearly they knew they could have done more. As soon as this happened staff started putting yellow do not enter tape all over the door. They said they would have locked it but they did not have the key. But my mother in laws fault and we do not even get a phone call in return. You guys remind me of United Airlines; you think 1 guest does not matter because you are too big to fail. We have spent a lot as has my family. All of us will not be there or too any branch or other company under this umbrella (Marshalls and Home Sense). Worst guest care skills and short term vision I have ever seen. You guys lost thousands of future revenue because of this. I am not sure how anyone in senior management can justify this as being smart business but what can you do. You offer a 50 buck certificate after over 700 bucks worth of quality merchandise is ruined because of your negligence. You then blame my mother in law who is from out of the country for everything. Yet you started putting tape on the door and said you had no key or it would have been locked. Just wow!
