Woman who took order was very nice. Food was very good and slightly healthier than typical Americanized Chinese places. Lunch specials to 3pm were good price and big portion. Was pleasantly surprised based on the mixed reviews. Had the egg roll, wonton soup, sweet & sour chicken and spicy garlic tofu (very tasty, bit spicy). Fried rice and brown rice were fresh and very good too. Very clean. Later tried the combo specials which were equally good at a good price. The 1-star rating is not because of a diminishment in terms of quality, but because the restaurant doesn't exist anymore, at least not in the Hoboken location. When the Lunchbox Mafia (a "cute" description by a former co-worker of how our "team" at work tended to pay more attention to what we were ordering than what we were working on) formerly existed in Hoboken, Lo Fatt Chow was our go-to Chinese restaurant for several years. The prices were reasonable, the food was always fresh and plentiful, and tasty. At some point, the (old) Godfather of Lunch and I decided that we needed to stop ordering take-out and start dieting. Hopefully shed some pounds, save some money, add a few more minutes to our allotted life span, and...oh yeah...focus more attentively on that which earned us the "big money" we use to order take-out so frequently. Not that Lo Fatt Chow cuisine was unhealthy-- quite the opposite, in fact. But we made the decision across the board to drastically reduce our tendency to order take-out. So... bottom line is that it has been a long time since we ordered anything, whether it's Lo Fatt Chow or Fiore's or Mr. Wraps. Just this past weekend, though, seemingly out of the blue, the Godfather said, "Wanna order?" I held steadfastly to my principles for all of 2 seconds before saying, "What?" "How about Lo Fatt Chow?" I was in. As I went on-line to check out the menu, I noticed before clicking onto the website a column by someone known as "Hoboken Girl," indicating that Lo Fatt Chow was going to close, and close in a matter of days. The Godfather (Chuck) and I were horrified. We called and were able to place an order but learned that...yes...in just a few days they were going to close. They were going to open restaurants in Tenafly and Morris Plains, but that didn't help us in Hoboken. Chuck commented to the person on the phone how much we had liked them over the years and how much we were going to miss them. We will. My "last meal" with them was Wonton Soup with hot mustard, Sesame Chicken, and vegetable-fried rice, finished off with a fortune cookie that offered a blandly upbeat platitude (I've often thought that to make fortune cookies REALLY interesting, they should occasionally slip in a fortune reading, "You have just 2 hours to live. Cherish those hours." Then again, maybe not.) Chuck was right. Good luck to them in their new endeavors, but, in Hoboken, they will definitely be missed. read more

I had heard good things about Lo-Fatt-Chow (despite the questionable phots on Yelp) and loved the idea of healthier Chinese food, but it took me years to finally try their offerings. We actually stopped in the other day and placed an impromptu order. We then took a seat on one of the benches to wait, but, thankfully, the food was ready very quickly, even with other takeout orders being picked up at the same time. I had selected the Steamed Mixed Vegetables and Tofu, which I thought was excellent! The vegetables were super fresh and cooked to the perfect texture. The tofu was also nice and firm. The accompanying brown rice was $1.75 extra, but it was completely worth it; the rice was similarly ideal and not at all mushy. The side of brown sauce was the one item I was not enthusiastic about, as it was very thick and could have used some more flavor (garlic, pepper, or something). In addition to my largely positive sentiments, my partner adored his Mongolian Beef with brown rice. Based on that experience, it looks like we might have a new restaurant to add into our takeout/delivery rotation! read more

I placed my order online and it was ready for pickup when I arrived. In general, the flavors are a bit mellow and could use more salt and cooking time. The Hot Garlic Chicken had decent flavor but could've been more pronounced - it definitely needed more spice. As far as the portion, there's plenty of chicken and broccoli throughout. I decided to try the shrimp fried rice which was decent but not quite the shrimp I would've expected to be used here. They were a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. I added some soy sauce which did it justice. I love my fried rice with a brown tint (as opposed to most places doing a yellow fried rice). The Beef Lo Mein Noodles were super satisfying! They were greasy, juicy, and had plenty of beef throughout. Even the Plain Wings were surprisingly hot, crispy, and fresh. They went so well together making the ultimate cheat meal. After almost 5 years of living in Hoboken, I've finally gotten the chance to check out Lo Fatt Chow...just as I'm moving out of Hoboken. I ordered a lunch special on a Monday at around 1:30. I've actually been wanting to try their wraps but I just wasn't in the mood for it but I was in the mood for some noodles, and this hit the spot. I ordered the chicken chow fun and fried rice with the hot and sour soup. The texture of the noodles were great, which I don't say often about takeout spots. I've tried other Chinese takeout places in Hoboken and this one is by far the best. Who else lets you have a lunch special with noodles AND fried rice?! Plus, the hot and sour soup was pretty solid. They add chicken to it, which is the only place I know of around here who has added meat thus far. While I wouldn't go out of my way to make the trip back here (since I don't live in town anymore), I am sad that I didn't try this place sooner. read more

A simple yet intense craving for wonton soup (you know you've felt that before) even though we kinda already ate a big late lunch and didn't plan on doing much (if anything) for dinner led us to find LFC. After looking at the menu online, our "we already ate-ish" state of mind flew out the window while we ordered a massive soup and....steamed dumplings, garlic chicken stir fry, a scallion pancake, and fried rice. Got home. Tore into it. Ate a bunch. Still felt good about it. While a meal here isn't the same as getting a salad with dressing on the side, it's not your typical, greasier, over-sauced takeout. Everything we ate? Really tasty. And yes, the wonton soup absolutely hit the spot. Ever had fried rice that wasn't that typical brown color? Me neither, until now. Plus, pineapple chunks. Win-win. The stir fry was as garlic heavy as I had hoped, without being over salted and over sauced. We had leftovers (thankfully) and they were all eaten the next day. If I had to criticize something, I thought the steamed dumplings were a little doughy, but that wasn't a huge deal. Overall, I look forward to exploring more of their menu. I am surprised this place has amazing reviews. Their food is generally very salty and sweet. Their general tso chicken is not crispy, not fried to order, extremely sweet and salty. The food is consistently very good and they serve great portions. We usually order the "combo for 1" (sometimes 2 of them) along with sides like dumplings, soup, and egg roll and it's all always amazing. Great spot!!!!! Ordered takeout at 550 and it was here at 615. The food was so hot! The portions were perfect. The combo is a great choice, only 10 bucks for entree, rice, egg roll. We got egg fried rice, lo mein, and sweet and sour chicken. You can definelty notice a taste of it being a little healthier, with the sodium. But it still taste like great Chinese food. I was a longtime loyal customer and always loved the food, however this one time I got the beef & broccoli it smelled and tasted absolutely RANCID. To be fair it's not out of the blue for Chinese food to be off sometimes, so I just called and asked to see if they would refund / replace. They refused to help me at all and got OFFENDED that I didn't want to potentially get ill/ sick from meat that smelled spoiled. I live right around the corner and was craving Chinese food and after reading the reviews I thought this place would hit the spot. We got pineapple/pork fried rice, wonton soup, and a scallion pancake. The fried rice was standard but the wonton soup was really good and for the price it was 100% worth it. The owner is extremely rude, nasty, and unprofessional. She YELLED at me on the phone last year when I had a minor complaint about the order and told me I didn't have to order from them anymore. I gave them another try this year against my better judgment, and I've been told by a worker that that the owner won't serve me food. I'm truly appalled.
