This is a wackadoodle bookstore for the lovers of Atlas Obscura type stuff. It is massive, the…read moreplace is packed to the brim, and they randomly have some ephemera (eg a confederate-era bill) that are on display and for sale. They also have a bunch of postcards organized by city/topic that were a lot of fun to rifle through. I took my parents here and my dad, who is notoriously a non-reader, absolutely loved it. The employees were also very nice and helpful. They have a selection of free books at the entrance, none of which were appealing but I appreciated it nonetheless. Prices were a bit higher than they should have been - "nothing books" (by which I mean used paperbacks with nothing noteworthy to them) were around $3-6. Obviously not going to break the bank, but they were the sort of books you could find for a dollar or less at a yard or library sale. One other bummer is that they do have a collection of rare books, but they're housed at a different location. All the titles can be seen on their website, but it's naturally so much more fun to view in person. Overall a cool place, and absolutely worth a visit. Not sure if I'd recommend planning on making a purchase, but if you're a bookstore lover or just a lover of oddities this is a must do.

I think it's best to go with a plan of what you are looking for. It can be overwhelming to just wander around. They have maps available, which is helpful. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and I recommend seeking their expertise if you are looking for something specific. There aren't really places to sit down and relax. This isn't a place where you come to chill for a long time and read through things. This feels like a place where you come with a purpose. It really is special.

BEWARE! YOU MAY BE ASSAULTED HERE!! I WAS ASSAULTED BY A FEMALE EMPLOYEE (dressed in all black in…read morephotos below) AS I ENTERED THE ESTABLISHMENT HALLOWEEN OCTOBER 31st, 2025 (I have pictures and videos, as well). The video surveillance should have also captured the moment I was bear hugged, dragged through a dark hallway, and eventually thrown into a white sign outside. I received bruises and luckily nothing major happened like landing wrong on my head and getting a concussion and possible death (should I have had a bad landing after being tossed by this lady). As she grabbed me and before she threw me to the ground I pled with her that she did not need to do this, but she was very angry (probably because she was working on Halloween and saw me with 3 beautiful girls and she couldn't handle how well the costume looked on me - just speculating here.) I went to this place on Halloween 2025, by the time I was assaulted it was November 1st, 2025 because it was past midnight. I was with 3 other girls (I am a male). We waited in line to get in. I was dressed up as Spider-Man and the girl I was with was Catwoman. I am of Western European descent and maybe that was the issue, I was racially profiled by the woman hostess/bouncer because she was letting in the rest of the people except me and my crew. I proceeded to take my phone out and record her after the assault and take pictures of her so I could later report her. On top of that, there were gunshots nearby so I decided to uber home and report this later instead of right away with the owner. I am going to follow up with this place to make sure we can come to some understanding that assaulting customers is not ok and I will continue to spread the word about my experience if I am not adequately satisfied with their resolution (if there is one). Again, this place is bad news and you should stay away. I am willing to change this review if an apology and some sort of incentive is offered.

I love to purchase the shelves and find something new, although I found the layout slightly confusing, and I found various books and multiple locations. The little tags that talk about unique aspects of the book are a really nice touch. I did find it to be slightly biased politically, but I'm not sure what you can expect in downtown Ann Arbor. They did have a beautiful special version of a book that my best friend from Australia loves, so I was able to pick up that copy. I can't wait to send it to her. When I told her about it, she cried. The book is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much Literati for stocking such lovely products! Sidenote - this bookstore used to have delicious oat milk, lattes and unfortunately, they do not the café upstairs anymore. I do like that they got rid of all the tables where people would sit for hours on their computer computers. Now there is more room for books and I enjoy their selection of YA, cookbooks, and other genres. This is the same bookstore. We brought our Canadian friends too to browse, and it was very fun also. Thank you so much Indie bookstores. We love to stop in!

I love visiting bookstores. The overwhelming excitement as I see stacks and rows of books to skim, feel, and to purchase never cease to amaze me. There's an upstairs and a downstairs! There are events posted on the website. Unfortunately there wasn't an event this week, but I was so happy that I drove to downtown for desserts and found this place serendipitously. I did have it bookmarked but I wasn't planning on visiting a bookstore that evening. Service was amazing. Everything was organized. I never walk out of a bookstore empty handed.
