Been seeing Sophie twice every year in summer with my family and she's been fine. The store has good merch to buy to support the business as well as great tasting ice cream. Been coming here for over 20 years and never had a problem other than maybe out of ice when it's super hot.

When we walked up, the initial shock of seeing a real bear so close was exciting, but the more I looked around the sadder I quickly became. The smiles on our faces were completely gone within thirty seconds when we realized that Sophie CLEARLY is suffering from Zoochosis. She paces the same pattern throughout her small enclosure over and over, so much so that there are circle trails where she walks repetitively. Circling this pattern continuously, not interacting with the other patrons who were THROWING donuts at her, she showed absolutely no interest in them. "SOPHIE LOOK!" "SOPHIE!" "COME HERE SOPHIE!" Pointing, laughing, shouting, and throwing food at her as if she is just a spectacle to gawk at. Besides from the repetitive head sway that she also was doing, it seems like her life is just that. Walking the same dirt paths constantly, being loudly laughed and shouted at, having food thrown at her, and simply existing as an opportunity for a quick photo op and some money for whoever owns this establishment. We didn't even bother coming into the actual store after what we had witnessed outside. How awful and depressing it is to imagine this poor animal's day to day life must be. If you have any empathy and care about animals and their mental wellbeing, I absolutely do not recommend coming here.

Jeff and Barb are wonderful people and very helpful. Plus, we love the chocolate chip cookies that are on the table waiting for us on our arrival. Often the neighbors have dogs, but they are always on a leash which is expected at any campground or cottage rental. It is hard to decide which cabin we like best; we have stayed in them all; and they are decorated so perfectly according to their name. It has been a challenge to count how many bears you can find in the bear cabin, or lighthouses in the lighthouse cabin. We hope to be able to go to the cottages for many more years. Thanks Barb and Jeff for such a wonderful place to relax!

It was tucked away just off the road in some beautiful woods and located directly on a little private lake called Bear Lake. It is very quiet and peaceful and the cabins were not crowded whatsoever. Our cabin was very clean and cozy. We couldn't believe that the price was so low because we would've paid double for what we got. We plan on booking again and look forward to doing so soon. You will not be disappointed in your stay. Everything is beautiful there

We were going to stay in a single villa but when we got to it (which seemed like a quarter mile walking from the parking lot), we were very disappointed. The fact that it was rustic was okay but we had inquired if there was a table where we could play cards in the evening and were told "yes". Well, the table was a small coffee table. The biggest problem was the bathroom shower which had a lot of mold. I attempted to call the front desk to report it but neither one of the two phones in the villa worked so I used my cell. I took a photo of the mold and requested that we be moved to the lodge. They did honor our request and the room was small but okay. When checking out the person at the front desk said that they checked out the bathroom issue that I reported and tholught it was fine. I was furious because I had a photo to prove my point and didn't like the attitude. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet but we decided to order individually. The servers don't come to your table - you go to the bar and order and pay and then someone brings your order to you. Lunch and dinner which are mediocre are served by the staff. Honestly, they need to invest some money to make improvements in the accommodations. We loved the courses but won't be returning because there is no option to stay anywhere else in that area that is decent.

To our relief, they had a vacancy with air conditioning. We booked room 16, which is the two bedroom suite. It's quirky and seems like it used to be an apartment, and I was excited to discover it had a full kitchen. Unfortunately, the kitchen didn't have a single utensil, plate, pot, or pan. Not even any dish soap. My son has very specific dietary restrictions so eating out wasn't an option. We wound up going to Koschers and spending $20 on a frying pan, and buying disposable utensils, soap, etc. We made it work but it was frustrating to have a kitchen that was completely unusable. Additionally, the entire place stunk of stale cigarette smoke, despite it being a nonsmoking suite. I wasn't worried about this until the smell managed to seep into everything we owned during our three day stay. It was also FILTHY. There were dead bugs all over the floor when we checked in. The tile floor was so dirty that we had to wear socks during our stay. When we walked around barefoot, our feet turned black. The bathtub and kitchen sink didn't have drain stoppers, but luckily we had some silicone baby bowl lids that we used to plug both the sink and the tub. That said, I was impressed with the older man who works there. When we made our reservation we let them know our plane didn't land in Detroit until 5, so we may barely make it before the office closed at 9. Through a series of mishaps we didn't leave DTW until 7. When I called to let them know our delay, he said he'd leave the room open for us and we could just stop by the office in the morning. This was very nice of them. I can't say I'd want to stay here again.
