The Specialty Clinic is my go-to for almost all of my appointments. The front desk receptionists…read moreare always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. If they don't have the answer to a question, they'll make sure to find someone who does. Like any doctor's office, appointments can occasionally run behind schedule. That's just the nature of healthcare. What I appreciate is that the staff acknowledges the delay, apologizes when necessary, and does their best to get patients back as quickly as possible. One of the biggest conveniences is having so many services in one location. My OB-GYN is here, and if I need a sleep study, I can simply go downstairs to schedule it. Iron infusions are available on the third floor, orthopedics is on the first floor if my joints are bothering me, and the lab is right there for blood work. It makes coordinating my healthcare so much easier. So far, I haven't had a single negative experience. From the receptionists to the lab staff and CMAs, everyone has treated me with kindness and genuinely seems to care about making each visit a positive one. Having a clinic where you feel well taken care of makes all the difference, and this has consistently been my experience here.

I was born the son of a sharecropper . . …read more No, wait. I was born the grandson of migrant workers in this very hospital during its first full year of operation. I won't say which year although my age will come to play a factor in this narrative. I brought my mom here for a surgical procedure. Originally scheduled for a 1:15 PM admission, our time was moved earlier to 12:30. Great for her since she was to fast after midnight. She was in a pre-operation bed and all hooked up by 12:45 by the amazing nurses Emily and Cathy. Their bedside manner made for a great initial experience. But then we wait. We wait. And we wait. In the meantime arrives a CRNA who shall go nameless. He has jokes. So does my mom. They banter back and forth some. Then suddenly he refers to me as a millennial. I guess I am to be flattered since I turn 50 this year, but he didn't use the term "millennial" in a great way. He then starts to tell me about putting people to sleep and how he also knows the sleeper hold which he uses occasionally, in special cases. Ok, dude. I then ask where is the waiting room for later. He says, "Do you know where the ICU is?" I say that I don't. He says here let me show you. So he takes me out into the hall and points in its direction. I acknowledge and he brings me back into Pre-Op. Then he says loudly to my mom, "I just showed him how to take care of himself." Thanks, dude, for showing me in 3 minutes what 30 years of military and government service couldn't. He was the highlight of the visit. The doctor finally showed up at 3 and my mom's procedure began at 4. After recovery she was out the doors at 6. That long wait and the longer than normal fast has affected her life recovery time (she is a very tiny lady) and she is finally getting better on Day 2. While my mom and I waited, we weren't looked in on very much. We just saw people coming in for surgery and headed on to surgery all around us, getting a little more attention. We were a little frustrated by the time the surgical team arrived, one of whom told us that surgery is "a living, breathing thing." That's nice. Well, so are your patients. I understand that doctors can run late, but this was a bit much. Although Emily and Cathy gave us a great start, some of the subsequent personalities were lacking. Maybe I was biased because my mom was frustrated and worried as time went on, which also affected my patience. Hopefully it will be a long time before having to come back here for anything. I am thankful, though, for the staff and the work they do. This just wasn't a great experience.

We called two ERs beforehand--this one was immediately kind, reassuring, and let us know there was no one else in the ER waiting room at the time. From the moment we arrived, the experience was excellent. Check-in was smooth, and we were taken back in under 10 minutes. The staff was incredibly kind, and within another 10 minutes, the nurse practitioner had already treated my son. X-rays were done quickly (impressive with a wiggly toddler), and results came back in about 30 minutes. By then, my son had fallen asleep, and the staff went out of their way to be quiet and accommodating--whispering, dimming the lights, and even letting us stay in the room so he could rest. When we were ready to leave, checkout was quick and friendly. Within two hours, my son was back to normal and running around. He was even able to be a ring bearer that evening with no issues! Hopefully you never need an ER, but if you do--especially with a child--I highly recommend this one.
