Heard from a friend on Facebook that this is the place to get bulk soil and other landscaping materials, and had to check it out.
If you're not familiar with the landfill entrance, it can be a little confusing at first to know where to go. We sat in line with the bulk items/landfill drop off folks and once we reached the window where the scale is, the lady directed us to follow the signs to drive a bit further back to find Living Earth. We probably could have gone left and avoided the line, but there's less signs than I hoped at the front landfill part. If you're not sure, the lady at the window in that bulk line can help you if you're willing to wait in line.
We drove a ways to get to living earth from there. From there you really do just follow the signs and her instructions. Once we got inside Living Earth, we went to the little building that is the office to ask about pricing and to pay. There's a lot to choose from, and prices were pretty similar to what I was told on the phone. They had a pricing sheet. I went with the specialty planting mix since I told the lady at the office that I'm using this soil for a flowerbed.
Then someone met us at the right pile of soil to load up our truck for one yard of specialty planting mix. We got one big scoop of soil, that didn't quite fill the truck bed but we have an extended bed. We got out to shift the top of the pile around to sit a bit lower, and patted it down a bit before we drove home.
It was hard to know what to expect but now that we've done it onceI'm excited to go back for more projects. read more
