They had a weeping peach tree, super cool, haven't seen one of those, it had fruit on it as well, tho online sites say the fruit is purely decorative only and not edible. Prices were actually really good, especially on the perineal flowers and the bushes. $8.00 for some of the 1 gallon plants, and all are well grown and healthy. Can beat that price elsewhere. We talked to some of the staff for some time in the office about plants and landscaping, listen to them and them listening to us in regard to our extensive landscaping at our residence. We wanted to see about a Cascade Falls Cypress, which is a weeping cypress tree, they didn't have any in stock, that's no fault of there's, as it's a rare tree that's hard to find, partly because they take years of growth before they can even sale a 3 foot tree. They have a supplier that has them but can't get any until next year. We will return to check on that tree as well as get some other good deals. They have a lot of hardscape items, flagstone, landscape stone, rocks, etc. this is a really nice place.

But the most important thing is the plant material is beautiful and healthy after you get it home and it will continue to live. I can't wait to my next visit!!! They had some spring items in tho from what we have at our normally frequented location on Hulen, the selection was a lot smaller. The amount of houseplants seemed very limited, I only say this because this is one thing we look at. The Hulen and Debbie Lane locations both have big houseplant areas along with the seasonal outdoor colors. They did have some small Coleus plants in stock which is a favorite of my wife's. Of course we had to grab a few. It was close to closing time, some of the staff seemed a bit busy. It was worth stopping in to see what they have as not all locations carry the same items.

I really do enjoy strolling, reading about different plants, and breathing in the planty air. Recently we made a Calloway's trip with baby Winnie in tow, and we picked out a bunch of goodies. A Japanese maple tree (since my mother stole my other one), two astilbes, lavender, rosemary, sage, basil, geraniums, and an azalea. Each plant looked healthy on the shelves to start and is now thriving even more, happy at home in our backyard.

Unfortunately, when I contacted Moon Valley about concerns regarding our trees and shrubs, I received delayed responses, poor follow-up, conflicting information, and unfulfilled promises. After all of that, I was presented with an additional tree-care program costing $1,560 plus tax. I still do not understand why soil treatments, fertilization, health inspections, and other recommended services are not included in the MVP package, or why this was not clearly explained when we made our original purchase. At this point, it feels as though the company is more interested in selling us additional services than in addressing our original concerns. Because of the poor service and lack of support we have received, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Moon Valley Nurseries to my friends or family. I sincerely hope other customers have had a better experience than we have. We invested far too much money in our trees, shrubs, and services to be treated this way. I expected professional customer service, honest communication, and consistent follow-through, but unfortunately, we have not received them.

While at the shop, I noticed he had not only built the building recently, but also did organic based yard service mowing, aeration, fertilization, compost, compost tea, leveling all sorts of services. I wanted to do aeration for quite some time, but it's just been difficult finding either a location that would rent the equipment or finding someone to do it without charging a small fortune. I'm probably outside of his service area but not terribly far from the shop. Nothing a small modest fuel surcharge wouldn't cover. Still economically viable. While at the shop I let him know I was interested and he suggested that I go on the website and fill out a service request to get a formal quote. I provided aerial photos of the yard, and some quality of the current grass. We determine that a full aeration of my lot, which is roughly an acre, an application of the compost tea, and a full mow edge and weed-eat would be a great start to spring. I got that scheduled and unfortunately that day came and it was raining. It was really convenient to push it off a few days and the weather was beautiful. We got it done in a couple of hours, it was a very painless process. One thing that I noticed is he has all brand new equipment so that means no breakdowns or delays in getting the service completed. He's investing for the future and I really like how he handles and manages his business. Great experience all the way around.

Either way, the owner and managers should consider customer experience and how easily it would be to fix frustration and bad reviews by following their own quote " am owner of Big Tex Stone(Mike Hillman). I started this company to meet the needs of homeowners and landscape professionals. This is not just a job for my team and I but a passion. We truly love to make house beautiful." If this is passion I recommend focusing it on customer service. Post a pricing menu clearly with details like cost of product, packaging like the bag, delivery (by mileage), and provide written quotes. Staff appropriately and train your team how to handle the front desk and phones. The person I worked with watched me write down all his quotes and never offered to write it up himself. Then when I called to place the order a surly young woman answered who proceeded to give four different prices for the same amount moving from my original quote of $650 to $768, no wait $781, no wait $801.. it was ridiculous. When I asked to speak with the guy who first helped me he said he watched me write down the numbers but they were wrong. Wow - way to lie to and dismiss the customer while dodging responsibility completely. Big Tex -Your literally selling dirt and rocks and frankly, at comparable costs to other businesses.
