This is a resource to the community where you pay a membership fee and borrow tool so you don't have to buy into the consumerism culture. They also offer classes so you can learn a skill. I started following them on Instagram and saw that they were having a fix-it fair where you can take everything from close to vacuums to Vitamix to knives to get it all fixed for free! Honestly, what a great resource to the community and I have been wanting to get my knife sharpened for years. It was so lovely to go. Carlos, an instructor at the tool library was so kind and educational. Let me film content, and was a delight overall. I believe the fix-it fair happens twice a year and I am definitely thinking about volunteering at the next event! I will definitely be back to take a course and learn. Truly a magical spot in the city.

There are a couple different classes you can take to get introduced to stained glass, like creating a dragonfly. Then as your skills improve you can take classes to make large panels or even lamps. The later classes are very open ended so you can learn different skills based on your experience and make pieces that match your interests. The classes are competitively priced and often include all materials. The facility has lots of supplies and tools that you can use, so you rarely need to bring anything except your own ideas. The instructors are extremely experienced, especially Donna, and are patient and willing to work with you. I've created a couple pieces at the Columbia Art Center and I'm excited to see what I can make in the future!

They live by their motto of "Left-Brain Support for Right-Brain People". They hold monthly clinics where volunteer lawyers provide support and referrals (with discounts) to individuals who wouldn't be able to access these services. There is a small fee for the clinic appointments. MDVLA also holds workshops for artists to learn how to protect their copyrights and ideas, which is a major challenge for artists and musicians. This is truly one of my favorite organizations to volunteer with as a law student. Not only do I get to help some incredible talented people, but I also learn a lot from the attorneys I have worked with and they have said they always learn something from the law students too.

I grew up in Harford County and didn't grow up around the most diverse community and what I experienced in my 4 years there has carried me through to success both personally and professionally that I want my children to experience in the near future. Not just as a graduate of the school but as a leader of people and someone who has a passion for improving and enriching people's lives.
