Sunday after Sunday we enjoy the excellent Sunday services at 10 AM and now, on the fourth Sunday of the month, we enjoy swing dancing free starting with a 30 minute lesson and dancing til 8:30 PM.

I first attended Live Oak as a child when it was in Isla Vista, and continued to attend through its move to Goleta. It has always been a very warm, very genuine, very progressive and open minded bunch of people. As a youth, I went to Religious Education classes, which weren't your normal Sunday School classes, but rather a very unbiased overview of the many faiths of the world. No one told me what to believe, and no one told me what not to believe. It was a place where good people would come together for community. Some of my closest friendships (with adults and other kids) were developed here. I participated in pageants, choir, and numerous field trips. When I got into my teen years, I went through the coming of age ceremony where I chose an adult to be my mentor. Since I've been out of high school I haven't attended much, though every time I do I am overcome with a sense of love. There is no guilt about not attending, but rather joy and excitement that I've returned to visit. I figure I could have been raised in a conservative religious and political household, where I was told what to think and was scared into living a good life just to stay away from hell. Instead, I was taught that my opinions mattered, that I could still be a good person and live a meaningful life without having to accept or conform to a certain set of ideas, that all people should be treated equally regardless of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or lifestyle. I am so thankful that places like this exist. Live Oak is truly an amazing place with a group of amazing people.

Unitarian-Universalist (UU for short) churches are different from most churches in that they do not give you answers, but encourage you to ask questions and then give you tools and a community to help you find your own answers. Live Oak is a vibrant, close community of art and friendly people. Once a month, Live Oak hosts the SongTree folk music concert series. I should note that this is MY church for the last 20 years.

One of Goleta's best hidden gems…read more I have memories of the pre-Girsh Park days when the Goleta Lemon Festivals were held here. It was a real authentic, old-time experience you just can't find anywhere else in the area. I've been here for a few weddings and a few company picnics, along with just casually perusing the lovely grounds on my own. There is a decent parking lot which I've never seen filled up unless there's some sort of event. The whole place gives off a peaceful, whimsical vibe with the towering trees, greenery, and ancient architecture. It's especially beautiful when there's a slight breeze and you can hear the gentle rustling of the abundant vegetation. The venue also offers a limited-hours visitor's center which I'd compare to a small museum. One can find old documents of Goleta's history along with collectible memorabilia and art for sale. If you're looking to see some well-preserved Good Land history, check this place out!

We've been to Stow House several times. First was maybe five or six years ago. We were able to…read moretake a tour of the inside of the historic home at that time. That was before we discovered the "Passport 2 History" program. When we did get the Passport and reviewed which spots were in it, I was glad to see this property listed, as an incentive to go back. We made a return visit two months ago, on a warm Saturday afternoon. It was lovely to see the vintage architecture spotlighted against a brilliant autumn sky. Warmer than usual, with no wind, it was a great time to be at the property. There was a young woman covering the gift shop. She told us that while the grounds were open, they weren't able to offer tours of the house that day. "Shortage of docents". I don't know the situation with who currently owns / runs the house - is it a foundation, the City, the County? Many historic properties were deeded by descendants of original owners to local municipalities to be shared with the public going forward. I'm sure that it's a challenge for any legacy property like this to get enough docents lined up, trained, and scheduled. They would mostly be volunteers, after all. While it was disappointing to not revisit the interior of the mansion, we did collect out P2H sticker, then spent time wandering the grounds. That was something we hadn't done previously. The lawn areas and mature palm trees are serene and beautiful. Going around the perimeter of the main house yielded new views I don't recall before. We snapped some photos, then adjourned to the train museum next door. The next time we're in the area, we'll call ahead to see if they are offering tours that day. Might be wise to do the same!

Words can not quantify the gratitude I will always have for Aileen at Blu Events and the expertise…read moreshe provided for my special day. Aileen would spend many late nights answering my concerns or making exceptional recommendations to bring my visions of my wedding day to life. When I walked into the reception area for the first time at the Villa Verano Estate, I had tears in my eyes and I was literally speechless. From the flowers to the lighting to the table cloths and all the rentals, our wedding was everything we dreamed of and more. A special thanks to her team on the actual wedding day because they were absolutely amazing and it went off seamlessly. Her and her team were by my side the entire wedding day constantly assuring me that everything was on track and going as planned, which I didn't particularly see but appreciated so much because I wasn't bothered with one thing. Aileen and her team anticipated what I needed before I even knew that I needed anything. We owe so much of our beautiful wedding day to Aileen! We couldn't have asked for a better coordinator in all parts of the process. She went above and beyond all of the responsibilities in the contract, and you can tell she really loves what she does. Early on in the process, we had already planned some of the wedding ourselves but we didn't have a very cohesive idea for the design side of our wedding. Aileen took the photos we'd saved of things we liked and our thoughts on what atmosphere we were going for and she created a digital design board for us. Her design board included our color palette, layout ideas, and design ideas for every aspect of our wedding from start to finish. It brought all of our ideas together with new ones into one cohesive, beautiful vision. If I could do one thing different it would be that I had found her sooner in the planning process. Thank you again Aileen for taking my childhood fairy tale and making it a reality. -Ashley H.

On the day of the wedding, everything ran flawlessly, and we were able to completely relax and soak in every moment. The venue itself is absolutely stunning-- the outdoor courtyard, cozy fireplace, magical string lights and more. So many of our guests told us it was the most beautiful wedding (and fun!) they've ever attended, and we couldn't agree more If you're looking for a venue that will go above and beyond to make your day unforgettable, this is it. We truly couldn't have asked for a better experience and are endlessly thankful to the entire team at Villa + Vine for giving us memories we'll treasure forever.

Katie coordinated the food service and the workers, and everything went smoothly. The outdoor space was set up nicely with a small dance floor, a separate area for the band and DJ, a bar area, and enough room for the tables and seating. It was a nice intimate setting for celebrating with family and friends. Brett, who is one of the owners, was very nice, personable, and talented. He helped make everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. The biggest drawback is the parking. The venue is located in a residential area and does not have its own parking lot, so you have to search for street parking. Definitely pack your patience and wear comfortable shoes because you may have to walk a little distance. The weather was beautiful, which made the outdoor reception even more enjoyable. If you are looking for a small and intimate venue and do not mind dealing with street parking, this is a nice option. Overall, everything went very well, and we had a wonderful time.

Our wedding was super small (18 people) and planned in only 4 months and The Factory team was willing to work with us every step of the way to bring our vision to life and stay within our budget (we never felt pressured and they were willing to be creative to help us cut down on cost). The venue can expand and contract to fit your needs and we loved how they were able to create a space that felt cozy and intimate for our small guest count. Especially great when kids are apart of the mix, because there's an enclosed space for them to run around and play. Food from Satellite was top-notch too. Drew was onsite to attend to all of our needs day-of. When in doubt, just book it! You won't regret it. We love The Factory!!

We've been going to this location for past 4 years because of its location, we've put up with their poor customer service, never recognize HH diamond status. The hardware is very dated , 1 single elevator share among guest and house keeping, house keeping don't give a care about guest or manners, they will shove their house keeping cart in your face regardless, the included breakfast is definitely sub standard, with a few of mouthy grumpy kitchen staff somehow loves to tell Asian guest off about how to make waffles and too scare to tell caucasian guests or they lived to bad mouth guest behind their back I. Their native Chinese dialect. The worst staff award goes to their so call "manager" William who fails to recognize returning guests, too scare of waive a $70 fee when higher brand of Hilton hotels have no issue of doing so and worst of all charge me for parking without a parking tag and the fact we have never got charge for parking for past 4 years. When we raised concerns with their upper management, zero response, don't really want to do anything make it right. I guess this is the Hilton standard now. I definitely do not recommend this location or hotel, Hampton Inn is already a lower tier of Hilton brand, they make it even worse with their old furnishings and hotel hardware, yes we saw the sign about their up coming renovations but what good is it if they customer service never improve? We won't be going back and rather try the Hilton garden Inn or other Hilton properties near. We gave it plenty of chances to improve and failed time after time. 1 more note, don't be fool by the old dated furnishings of this hotel, they charge an arm and a leg for staying there because of its location. This franchise need to be revoke and remove and put an Embassy Suite here instead.
