They go above and beyond in many ways, including giving my mom uplifting words of encouragement and helping her stay positive. Also, all the meals are hand-made and nutritious. We were all relieved my mom got the nutritional support and oversight she did while there. She regained a lot of strength from the food, which was always delicious and delivered on time. The whole place is clean and comfortable. There are doctors, nurses, and other caregiving professionals (e.g., physical therapists, nutritionists, etc.) on hand. Over the past year I have seen the decline in the facility. She was placed in hospice and thought she should still have some extra care to be sure she was mentally and physically comfortable. The attitude was one of basically why try to do anything she is dying anyway. One day I found her hunched over in a wheelchair with a bathrobe and no clothes on. It was very sad. I then sent her to the hospital so she could get comfortable. The hospital assumed the end wasn't near and they sent her back to Meadow Brook. With in two hours she had passed. It was very confusing, since the death certificate indicated she suffered for hours? So why wasn't I called if they thought she was declining however the death certificate conflicted what I was told by the nursing staff. I made multiple calls asking to correct the death certificate to indicated she has a chronic illness. I begged them to fix it letting them know that she couldn't be put to rest until this was resolved. Dr. Singh ignore this even the funeral director called to try to help still nothing. Unfortunately this fell on deaf ears. My sister sat at the funeral home for two and a half weeks. I finally had to let it go so she and I could rest.

After getting the prescription for physical therapy at UConn, I spent a bit of time trying to find a place that would be able to take me for physical therapy quickly. I called around and finally was told by a receptionist at another HHRN location that the Bloomfield location relatively less busy, so I gave them a call, and they had an opening a week out. Whew. After the first visit, it was easy to schedule convenient sessions. I ultimately had six sessions with Brian over the course of 3 weeks. Brian has a pretty chill demeanor and was helpful in my understanding of why I was feeling the discomfort I did. I appreciated that deeper understanding and ultimately felt better - mentally and physically - through my sessions here. I was ultimately able to complete my race practically pain free, and it would not have been possible without Brian's instruction and expertise.

Duncaster Continuing Care Retirement Community has always been a top notch Graduated Living…read moreCommunity since its founding in 1984. Recognized and awarded throughout their 34+ years. This Community has recently provided us with two special and personal experiences. First, my mother-in-law enjoyed and when I say enjoyed, this is very understated, a recovery period in their on-site Caleb Hitchcock Health Center. This was followed by a bad fall in her own home, which required surgery and two+ months of ambulatory therapy. Second, our daughter was offered and accepted a position with the Community. I was able to spend two and half hours one evening during an earlier snow fall to "safely Uber" my daughter home after her shift. While there I was able to stroll and observe the Community first hand. In that time, I chatted with the most wonderful residents, diverse, each within their own level of life and ability. However ALL appeared happy and with a most impressive sense of close community and caring for one and other. My favorite component is the Aquatic Center. Top notch with scheduled low impact exercise classes, monitored open swim lanes, and a gradual ramp for aided aqua therapy. Not to put aside their adjacent Health and Wellness Center with fitness and movement classes for all. The dining facilities are NOT run of the mill either. Ranging for Casual formal dining, private spaces for residents to dine with visitors, and even door service. The menu was quite impressive offering a new menu everyday catering to all dietary needs and wellness, too. Now, entertainment. I happened upon an open auditorium with a large number of residents enjoying a live Piano, Violin, and Cello performance. I stood in the doorway mesmerized leaving the snowstorm behind. From there I wondered into their Library with an ample and diverse section of book stacks, warm well lit seating areas, and during the day a Librarian. In warmer, months the grounds are park like, the landscaping is beautiful and offers a number of pathways with spaces sit, enjoy nature, and let a little Vitamin D seep in. I'm only scratching the surface and I could go on, however, I close with this: I hope to be as fortunate one day as the Duncaster Residents to partake in such a well planned, maintained, and caring Community to help extend the enjoyment of our sunset.
