This review is wayyyyy overdue. I got my first tatt here 10 years ago! Back when I never even heard of Yelp or knew of its existence. Anyhow, I made my first trip to Kaua'i with my gfs and I was feeling spontaneous. I have always wanted to get a tatt but didn't know what I wanted or where on my body I wanted it. We were staying at a rental in Kapaa and we kept driving past Little Tsunami. The day before we were supposed to leave Kaua'i, I decided that I was gonna get one. We walked in the small, humble shop and we were greeted by Chanel. She was friendly and welcoming and showed me some drawings she had. I decided to get 4 plumeria flowers on the back of my neck to symbolize my bond with my siblings. (My brother passed away from a terrible car accident two years prior to my trip. He and I were very close.) Anyhow, Chanel was nice enough to squeeze me in without an appointment even though she was busy. Took 45 minutes and I loved it! Still do! To this day, I still get compliments. Little Tsunami gets 5 stars because of their professionalism, helpfulness, cleanliness, quality of their craftsmanship and I appreciate Chanel's artwork!! I had an appointment with Sabrina while on the island for vacation this week, and let me tell you, the entire process from beginning to end was amazing! Sabrina got back to me quickly upon my email to her with my request for an appointment. After a couple of emails back and forth, we set up a consult once I was in town. I'm sure I was frustrating when I walked in to my consult and literally just said I wanted something floral with a Hawaiian influence. But Sabrina was able to make my dreams come true! She even ended up amending her schedule slightly to accommodate a last minute change to my schedule. During my actual appointment, the studio was impeccably clean, welcoming, and very relaxed! We have sent work on good faith back and forth to one another for years...The Review and attack towards their business and the slander towards their individual character by Tiara was completely uncalled for from this said one star reviewer. I had an unfortunate experience with this person as well and I am the person that reached out to Little tsunami to warn them of the experience that took place in my place of business. We as professionals care about the work we do and take the time to take care of our clientele. We take the time to talk with people and figure out what it is they want to give them the best possible Tattoos that we can possibly give them. I know Little tsunami does that as well. Therefore because of my unpleasant experience with Tiara I felt the responsibility to call and warn them in hopes that they could avoid any unnecessary drama. Unfortunately to no avail. I recently visited Kauai for the first time and wanted a unique souvenir. I'd been kicking around the idea of getting a tattoo forever and figured it was time to take the plunge. So I researched some of of the tattoo places on the island and looked at artists' portfolios and decided that Little Tsunami was for me. Chanel was quick to respond to my inquiry about setting up a initial meet up and worked with me on some ideas I had and then booked an appointment for last full day I would be in Kauai. When I came in I loved the design so I decided to go for it. Being my first tattoo, I didn't know what to expect but Chanel was very patient, warm and professional. The studio is a bit hard to find being on the second floor (above the Eastside bar and grill) but it is clean and well kept. Tips: Schedule an appointment as earliest as possible on your trip. The design should be discussed and not rushed. A tattoo of moderate size can take hours depending on many factors. Great shop. I was able to come in with a small, simple, vague idea, and they were able to expand on it and personalize it for me. CHANEL did my lower back and I was extremely pleased. My husband and I decided we wanted to get tattooed while we were on island. We had already identified Little Tsunami on our previous trip based on all the amazing reviews but ran out of time to get by. So this time we made it a priority and went to find them very early on in our trip to talk about our ideas. As others have indicated, it's off the beaten path so you have to really go looking for it. Truthfully, that's the kind of place we wanted. It was an outstanding experience from start to finish. My husband wrote his review separately and it was his first tattoo which was very significant for him. Both of our pieces were completely custom. Chanel worked on both of us in a marathon 12 hour day just prior to us leaving the island. There were so many things I appreciated about this shop. The development process, the integrity, the dedication to the client and attention to detail through the entire process were just a few. On the day I was scheduled to get my tattoo - originally planned for the inside of my forearm - my skin was having some sort of allergic reaction. I had kept it protected from sun as instructed but something else was clearly happening. Chanel was very patient in dealing with the situation and we discussed potential options. Knowing what was best for me, she sent me away to take some time to think about it over lunch. She took all the pressure off me and as a result, I came back with a new, even better idea. She embraced the idea and redesigned the tattoo completely. It moved to my left shoulder and became the start of a brand new piece, also covering up a dated 20 year old tattoo that was occupying valuable space on my left shoulder. She brought me back in the very next day - she managed to fit me into her schedule even on such short notice - and 7 hours later I walked out with a beautiful piece of art having had nothing short of an amazing experience!! This woman works her tail off to make sure she gets things right. She is worth every penny. I thoroughly enjoyed our time together - many very loud laughing bouts were had in the midst of it all. It was a beautiful experience. This review really doesn't do it justice. Suffice it to say, in July I will be back to start my next add on to this piece. My handsome hubby and I visited in September and stopped by for our dream tattoos to commemorate our dream vacation. We ended up emailing and working out our designs through email and then we came in and finalized our designed with Chanel and her expertise made the finished product better than we could have ever dreamed. My cover up was gorgeous and after having her special touches added to it, it was so spectacular that I actually cried I was so happy. Plus she put up with my BS for 6 hours and didn't charge me double. She was smiling and laughing the whole time. Then she had to put up with the hubby. Jury is still out on being charged double for him! Chanel is wonderful, she does phenomenal work has the greatest ideas to incorporate and knows what you want and what you are looking for even if you can't find your words to tell her. She somehow managed to take a vague concept (lucky 13 spade) and turned it into the beautiful artwork that captured everything we were looking for with symbolizing our life, love, marriage and bond. I cannot speak positively enough of my experience at Little Tsunami. The staff is so totally badass and so totally friendly and wonderful at the same time, not to mention their INCREDIBLE talent. I wandered in not really knowing what I was doing and showed the brilliant artist Acacia a grainy image I had scrounged around for on Google images. She got back to me with a miracle of a sketch that was more to my liking than anything I had thought up myself. My time in the studio getting the tattoo was spent talking to Channel (another amazing artist) and Acacia. They are so witty and intelligent that talking to them while getting tattooed was much more enjoyable than I would have thought possible, given the pain involved. Initially I had explained that I couldn't afford to spend a ton of money on a tattoo, and realistically I wasn't sure about spending more than $700. Acacia worked with me to find ways to keep the price within my budget without compromising the appearance of the tattoo. In the end, I ended up paying around $200 less than I had expected to. My husband and I were going to Kauai for our honeymoon and a few months before he said he'd like to get another tattoo while there (his 20th) and i had been considering it myself (my first). So he did some online searches to see the different shops on the island and he landed on Little Tsunami. He did a damn good job! We emailed them through the website and got a reply back soon there after. We exchanged some emails back and forth to give them some ideas on what it was we were wanting to get done, how much we were wanting to spend, and all that. We basically got as much done as we could while we were still thousands of miles away. We decided that we were committed to getting the tattoos so we went ahead and set up appointments for both of us for our last day on the island (so we could swim and all that while we were there). We put down a deposit and also scheduled a consultation for our first morning on island. We went in our first day and met with our tattoo artists (Acacia for me, Chanel for him) and kicked around our ideas and talked about all our thoughts so that they could do some drawings and get going on the designs. Our wedding had had a theme of birds (because why not) and so we both wanted to each get a tattoo with 2 birds. From there, ours were totally different based on our own personalities. We also wanted a touch of Hawaii in each one to relate to where we got them. They went to work from there. We got a call back a few days later that they had some things to show us so we swung by (the shop is pretty conveniently located regardless of where you are staying cause well, it's not that big of an island and it's right off the main highway on the east side of the island). The sketches were looking great! We went back in our last day and it was tattoo time! Christopher got two owls on his leg and I got two Hawaiian honeycreepers on my arm. He sat for about 4 hours and me for about 3.5 or so (they weren't small tattoos...). The experience was great. Our personalities meshed very well and so we chatted and joked around some during the tattooing and it went fairly quickly, really. When we were both done, we could not have been happier! I love the detail work in my tattoo. I like linework and details and they are both done amazingly well. Christopher's owls are freaking adorable and bright and vibrant. They managed to perfectly capture what we wanted, our personalities, everything! These ladies know what the heck they are doing and are great to work with. It was a great experience and makes for a truly awesome souvenir. And everyone who has seen our tattoos has thought they were great. Cleaning our tattoos at the airport (you gotta do what you gotta do) before we left, random dudes in the bathroom were complimenting how great they were. Not a bad reaction from the very first people to see them! If you are looking to get a little ink (or a lot) on Kauai, you can't go wrong at Little Tsunami! Sometimes I feel like my ink has taken on a life of its own. In my imagination it started out as one somewhat small design and now has grown pretty significantly. In theory there are four separate tattoos (which she did) but Acacia was able to integrate things so that the entire work looks like it was planned as one tattoo from the beginning. I love every bit of it and sport it proudly. Acacia was skilled at listening to my ideas and then translating them into art. I have a strong imagination but am not good at scale and perspective. Acacia was able to help with that and the pieces perfectly express who I am. She is patient and has an exacting eye, which is really important in tattoo work. She was respectful about my comfort and my body and has a gentle hand. Because of this, I think she'd be a good "go to" for a first-timer. She was also perfect for this fourth timer!
