I booked a time for one of the last days with Vayda about two months before my trip. Communication was always easy and she was reassuring that we would come up with something to memorialize my special pup that had recently passed. Once I was on the island, we met up for a consult to touch base and finalize some details. Vayda was super nice, great steady hand, and quick as well! She even spent time sharing a homemade oatmeal soap recipe to help with the irritation from the soap I had been using. She truly went above and beyond for me and I can't be more thankful. My husband and I went to Rise Above the ink for tattoos on our visit to Kauai. My husband wanted birthdates on his arms and I wanted butterflies. We both had conceptual ideas but needed final art. I was in Kauai for a girls trip/friends birthday and we really wanted to get matching tattoos. We just finished tubing and our guide recommended this shop to see Shiloh and I'm so glad he did. Shiloh was so patient with us and made sure we were satisfied with our outline before he actually started tattooing. Just imagine 5 girls being very indecisive. It was like asking your girlfriend where she wants to eat LOL. Hands down Shiloh is thee best! And I loved the drawings he did on the wall, especially Pele. I wish I took a picture of that. Well... we didn't know we were getting tattoos till 3 days before we left to go home. We went in the first day and automatically felt comfortable. The shop is amazing and welcoming. We made our appointment and Shiloh was kind and helped me understand everything about my first tattoo. He said he has a wonderful Artist Named Vayda who would do amazing with my like work tattoo that's super minimalistic. And my mom wanted a tribal work with some added ideas to finish her sleeve. We made the appointment and came back that Thursday. We arrived earlier than our appointment and they were super optimistic and welcoming once again. I met my tattoo artist and fell in-love with her art and same with my mom and Shiloh's work. The whole tattoo experience was amazing for my first tattoo. Long before we arrived at Kauai for vacation, I wanted to get tattooed in Hawaii. When we arrived besides all the things to see and do on Kauai, we wanted ink. My son looked up the local tattoo shops and decided that this by far was the best talent. We made an appointment and Sabastian accommodated both of us for the designs that we wanted. This was our first family vacation outside of California, therefore we wanted to make it memorable, ink is forever and that's why we both chose "Ohana" (Family). Pain level was acceptable and I checked to make sure Sabastian was having a good day before we started the tatt. LOL! I had a heavy handed artist before at a different shop in Cali and wanted to make sure that the vibe was right. I watched as others were getting tatted and loved the work that everyone does here. My family and I were visiting from Seattle. We came to the island around the time Hurricane Lane was happening so most of our activities got cancelled. The 3 of us joked about getting tattoos, and it actually happened!!! I got my first tattoo here, and I ended up with two... Came back the next day for my third one! Lol. That should tell you how talented these guys are. I got my tattoos done by both Shailoh and Sabastian, and they both did an amazing job! While I'm certain these guys probably do good work my wife and I will never know. We wanted to get some ink while on Kauai for vacation/second anniversary. We waited til our last day so not to interfere with swimming, etc. I called on Friday and spoke with Sebastian who was very nice and assured us we could come in the next day at 1:30 to get our ink work. We arrived 15 minutes early to find him and another artist along with a second couple locked out of the business. We were informed that the owner had gotten drunk the night before and was nowhere to be found. We waited 45 minutes while they attempted to locate him or break in. We finally left to do some other activities and gave Sebastian our number should they be able to open. Over an hour later they text saying they were in but some other people had come in. Told them we would return in about an hour figuring they would be done and allow us to get started. Came back a little after 4 to discover they were still working on other people. Was assured it would not be much longer. We finally gave up at 5:40 to head to dinner and airport without our anniversary ink. Received a text while in the TSA line that they were free and could do our tats at 7:15. Obviously it was too late and we left the island very disappointed. The artists' work pictured at shop looked excellent but this is no way to run a business. Sebastian was very apologetic but when working with tourists who have flight schedules there needs to be guaranteed times. Maybe next trip if and when we manage to return. read more
