Ordered food to find that half of the limited menu is unavailable and on re-ordering a refund on the varying price was not given. I'd only return here for a beer and a bed, as long as you put a rail on one side to stop yourself from rolling out. Nice for a visit for a tourist, but for anything else, AVOID

Ah, the British. If they're not hoarding all the history with the rest of Europe, they're…read moredisplaying their wit. The "New Inn" has been around since roughly 1430, and is reputed to have been frequented by Shakespeare, if you into that sort of thing. Me, I'm into giant, black-wood columns and crossbeams that are literally two feet by two feet. The New Inn is in the heart of beautiful old Gloucester, in an area where cars are (mostly) forbidden. So make sure you have some comfortable shoes to enjoy the neighborhood, which is should be explored. There are plenty of nearby shops and restaurants, and a fantastic old church, the Gloucester Cathedral (but that's a different review). While staying at the New Inn, make sure that you visit the attached pub. I wasn't a fan of beer at the time, so I can't tell you anything about what they served, but it is warm, welcoming, and attractive. Just be warned: do not expect all the comforts of home at the Inn, such as level floors or straight walls. You're going here for the charm and history. And the fact that it's very affordable. But mostly, because the place has been around longer that there were Caucasians in North America, and speaking as one of those North American Caucasians, that's pretty damned cool.

It's a former country house, dating from 1770, but with substantial 19th century and modern additions. Anyone expecting a country-house style interior will be disappointed: it has been thoroughly modernised and, while the main rooms have grand proportions, the decor is thoroughly minimalist. Most of the bedrooms are in an adjacent block and are have a fairly standard hotel room layout, with ensuite facilities. There's no air conditioning but fans are provided. My room was comfortable, with a great bed , comfortable pillows and fluffy towels. Less good was the miserably small hanging rail located in a tall box-like contraption by the door. About a foot of hanging space seemed ridiculously mean in what was otherwise a spacious room. A tray with a kettle and tea, coffee and biscuits was provided. There were plenty of power sockets including a USB charging point. The free wifi had a very good signal, and provided around 35mbs in my room for both uploading and downloading. I was visiting with a group, so had a special meal in one of the conference facilities, rather than the restaurant. This was perfectly ok, if not especially memorable. Breakfast was a self service buffet, with the hot food refreshed regularly, though the choice of pastries and fruit was a little disappointing. Outside, the very extensive grounds (12 acres) are largely laid to lawn with lovely mature trees. It's very quiet and peaceful. There's extensive car parking nearby with reserved disabled spaces. The staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful, and very obliging. So, overall it was a decent hotel in a lovely location, with great staff.

Spoke to reception and was moved to a lovely room with lots of windows and was lovely and cool. Top marks for friendly helpful staff. Would recommend to friends and work colleagues.
