Room air conditioning not functional during a summer heat wave. The room telephone was also not functional. My dad had a medical emergency while here, so we switched him into our room that had air conditioning and a working phone. Hotel staff at front desk though, is energetic and amazing. My first meal, a chicken sandwich. Wait, I'm the idiot. Its England, its Bristol and it's a hotel bar. Well after I douched it in vinegar, then sloshed it with brown sauce (try it, it's actually good) and washed every bite with a large gulp of Stella, it was bearable. Also I was really hungry. The next meal I ate was breakfast the next day in their restaurant called Chandlers. Open Hilton buffet, I expected the standard stuff. But wait, again I'm the idiot, its England. After spending about 20 minutes explaining to my Polish chef the meaning of 'egg whites only', and the waitress that instant coffee is not the international norm of hospitability, what did I get for breakfast? A crumbly 'omelet' and a cup of instant coffee. My third meal however wasn't all that bad. Stewed venison and mashed potatoes. Tasted well and looked fine when served. All in all, it's a regular Hilton in England. Don't expect the world, and you'll be just about satisfied. read more

We stayed here for a weekend on a promotional offer, so the value for money was amazing. The rack rate is rather more expensive, but special offers seem to be widely available. I was impressed with the hotel from the moment we checked in. All the features of the promotion - free parking, dinner that night, etc - were confirmed right away, a booking taken for dinner, and access to the pool and gym explained. The welcome was professional and very friendly - an approach mirrored by all staff that weekend. Our room was large, immaculate and lovely. As well as complimentary wine, mini cakes and chocolates, there were two bottles of beer. High-quality toiletries, ample towels, a good television, desk area and comfortable chairs were all provided. Dinner was three courses, each with meat, fish and vegetarian options. The food was good, probably better than expected for this type of hotel restaurant, and service was lovely. Breakfast was buffet-style, with masses of choice from fruit and yoghurt to full English. Guests also have use of the health club. The swimming pool is accompanied by a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. All were clean and pleasant, and towels and toiletries were provided too. There were also gym facilities, which I didn't use but which appeared to be well cared-for too. Two small caveats: first, extras are expensive (broadband access £15; Costa coffee significantly more expensive than in Costa). Secondly, the location is great if you have a car - close to Cribbs Causeway and a short drive to Bristol city centre. However, it's not very good if you are relying on public transport or don't want to drive during your stay. read more

Disagree with the previous review although we did book it as a late deal so didn't spend lots of money. Our room was lovely, very clean and with a nice bathroom. The bar area was really nice and we had a lovely breakfast. Staff were really helpful - more so than the usual politeness. It's obviously from the Hilton chain so lacks a bit of character of 'one off' hotels but we'd still recommend staying here. read more

Business visitor review of an under-performing chain hotel which demands complaints and management needs to attend to detail. Expensive after overheads incurred. On first visit we were given a room which had not been properly cleaned from the obvious remains of previous occupation. Lazy housekeeping without a check in this category. That's what management does to chase occupancy rates. Any trained duty manager working? After complaining, quickly re-located to another similar, but clean room on the same floor. Reception staff were quick to respond to the hotel's housekeeping failure. Tidy, compact and with a shower, no bath, as stated in the company prospectus. In the room the iMac is also the TV monitor. TV channels are up-to-date. BIG PLUS for free WiFi on the iMac. No choice of simultaneous TV and internet unlike the website picture of a typical widescreen TV and a separate computer monitor. City Inns' web-site shows a SUITE, better equipped, not one of their standard 167 bedrooms. Advertising false. Complimentary tea/coffee, but no alternative chocolate drink. Very motel. Some more expensive rooms overlook Temple Park. Situated close to Temple Meads rail station on a busy inner-city dual carriageway. We need to visit offices in the harbourside so daily taxis are necessary.No advantage in location. You need to pay a lot for taxis in Bristol on business. It is not far, however, to walk to Cabot Circus area or over the river, again, to Welsh Back areas for eateries. But, unlike many UK tourist/business hotels, we can recommend you eat in the dining room here. The current kitchen is outstanding, expensive, but good. DINNER. There is much marketing promotion of the truly excellent dining operation. Menus are first class and of a much higher standard than one would expect. We much appreciated Signor Manuel on station in the restaurant. His cheerful and attentive service up-graded this review. BREAKFAST Most guests were trying to obtain breakfast just after 8.00am in a hurry. Stressed under-manned staff were overwhelmed. Not enough staff at service or in the kitchen. We waited too long and had to forego hot food. No tea/coffee spoons or milk at our table. Very disappointing and spoils the start to a working day! SUMMARY. Category is hit and miss. No guarantee of satisfactory. 1. Superior and superb dinner. 2. Do not pay in advance for an inclusive breakfast. Eat elsewhere. 3. Front of house staff very helpful and accommodating. 4. Check room before confirmation of payment. 5. Lower end experience of a business "hotel". Could be great. 6. A preferred choice if the experience was not demanding. read more

I have stayed in this hotel a number of times with work and always found it to be fantastic. The rooms are perfectly set up for a business traveller: all rooms have DVD players and DVDs can be borrowed from the reception. Even the standard rooms are beautiful and come with bath robes. The restaurant is very good and the atmosphere is such that you don't feel weird eating on your own. The only draw back is the gym which is not very big at all. It is about the size of a large hotel room with a couple of each machine. read more

best thing about this hotel? eh... nothing really. I mean it's clean and has the standard decent hilton service. But it's quite boring. There's nothing much to do around it, airport's close by and the bristol parkway tube is about a 8GBP cab ride away. There's a Decent chinese take out place within a 10 min walk from the hotel. The gym is tiny and can get packed. The pool is comfortable with some funky colorful lights at night. Restaurant food is ok and has it's typical hilton selection as well as inclusive menus. read more

I have just returned from a girly weekend break at the Hilton in Bristol and have to say that I was rather disappointed :-( The hotel itself is well situated just off the M5 and a 10 minute drive from the fabulous new shopping centre Cabot Circus. The room was OK - a little cramped but clean and comfy and the staff on reception were great. However the hotel restaurant was appalling. Our wekend room deal included a 3-course meal on Friday evening and whilst we didn't expect fine dining, did hope that our meal would be edible. On previous stays at other Hiltons on a similar break we have eaten from the menu (with additional charges for steak etc.) but at Bristol was a carvery. The starters on offer were tired dried out cold meats and salmon (bad luck if you were veggie), still in evidence at breakfast on boht Saturday and Sunday mornings. The main courses were a dried out gammon, that looked as though it had been under the halogen lamp for several days, dried up cod in a runny sauce, chicken legs with a pepper sauce poured over it (peppercorns not added during the cooking as they were too intense and hard) and liver - which the scruffy 'chef' just called lamb - quite a shock when I cut into it!!!!!! Again no vegetarian option. The desserts were still semi frozen. Suffice to say we chose to eat elsewhere on Saturday evneing and had a lovely meal of meatballs in the cafe at Ikea which was far superior to the offerings at the Hilton read more

As a regular Hilton visitor, I found this hotel disappointing. When we stayed, there was tremendous pressure on the restaurant, due to a massive influx of people from a coach tour. This meant that service was appalling, to the extent that the chef was hugely embarrassed and apologised profusely the following evening when things were somewhat calmer. The rooms were not that great for the money, and parking was not free, even though the hotel is quite a way outside the city centre. Staff were hassled and service therefore also left something to be desired. I would not hurry back here. read more

Myself and my husband stayed in this hotel on a short break to Bristol. The room was lovely with and my husband was very impressed by the IMac with free internet access! In other hotels we have stayed in WiFi has always been a paid for extra. There were lots of little added extras such as biscuits, nuts and crisps and we were lucky enough to have a complimentary bottle of wine which was really nice. I found the hotel excellent value for money and its position is ideal in the city, very nearby Temple Meads train station. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Bristol. read more

Hugely dissapointed.far too expensive for what it was. Room could easily have been Travellodge which isn't bad - but not what you want to spend in excess of £100 for! Food nice but overpriced.would rather stay at The Aztec for the money read more

Great hotel! City inn rock for cleanliness, friendliness of staff and well appointed rooms. The food, however, is simply stunning and great value for money. What a refreshing change, thoroughly recommended and well done City Inn! read more
