Despite my rating, I would still recommend The Riverview for these key reasons: Pros * Scenic Setting: The venue is beautiful and dream-like, as if it jumped straight out of a Hallmark movie. * Indoor/Outdoor Balance: The elegant interior is balanced by grounds flanked by nature and the Farmington River, creating a seamless blend between indoors and out. * Secluded Feel: It is well-set back from the street, giving the pleasant illusion of being tucked away in a forest. * Great Food (According to Guests): Our guests--who came from diverse cultural backgrounds (Indian, Asian, Hispanic, Black, White, African, etc.)--rave about how good the food was. * Friendly Staff: The staff and day-of attendants were consistently warm and friendly. Unfortunately, significant operational issues lowered our overall experience: Cons * Inflexible Tasting Policies: Before signing our contract, we were told there would be both a food and cake tasting. However, we weren't told until later that food tastings only take place on specific Saturdays during certain times of the year. Because we observe a Saturday Sabbath, we could not attend, and no accommodations were made--forcing us to choose our menu blind. Additionally, cake tastings are limited strictly to whatever flavors the chef happens to prepare that weekend, regardless of what you actually want to sample. * Dietary Restriction Oversight: We clearly communicated several guest dietary restrictions in advance, including severe shrimp allergies within our wedding party. Despite this, shrimp was still served to those individuals. Thankfully, the staff corrected it after it was pointed out, but a mistake involving severe allergens could have ended much worse. * Timeline Delays: I shared a detailed schedule with our coordinator weeks in advance. However, the venue deviated from the outline in several places. For example, salad service was delayed, which pushed main courses back and created a domino effect, forcing us to rush our schedule toward the end of the evening. * Lack of Active Coordination: The coordination felt passive. During the ceremony, the pastor had to call for the ring bearer multiple times before he finally wandered out, confused. Later, the wedding party was left scattered, leading to a late start for the reception introductions. * Cleared Plates & Communication: A bride and groom should get to eat at their own wedding. I was so busy managing details that I hadn't eaten a single bite. My wife explicitly asked an attendant not to clear my plate because I wasn't finished, yet they threw my full plate away rather than covering or packing it. When I asked if anything had been saved, I was simply met with only a apology Summary: The Riverview is a stunning venue with great food and friendly staff, but their event coordination and flexibility left much to be desired. While the backdrop is gorgeous, they were slow to manage our timeline and rushed to clear tables, while missing key details around dietary restrictions and coordination. If you have a simple, flexible wedding, it is an easy choice. However, if you have dietary needs, specific schedule requirements, or a distinct vision, prepare to communicate constantly and assign a trusted member of your wedding party to keep things running smoothly.

I believe this closes at sunset but I've been out here at sunrise and it's been pretty quiet until 9:30 am or so. There are a few walking trails and the docks/front of the boathouse (the cement areas) do flood during heavy rain. Definitely a Glastonbury community symbol... :) Lots of kids fishing on the dock/by the river. Playground on the premises & then the Glastonbury parks and rec manages the fields behind the clubhouse. I've been here when there was a wedding and it seemed intimate and romantic. I'm a big fan of this spot!

Simultaneously outside from 1pm to 7pm they had a small market about 5 vendors selling things like cookies, cake jars, dog treats, and other items. They also had a burger food truck. The service was good. It was busy. You had to go inside to purchase your drinks and bring them out yourself, there was no wait. I enjoyed the table outdoor as the weather was perfect in the low 70s. The winery is dog friendly and kid friendly. I had my dog with me as many others did too. There were kids playing and laying on picnic blankets while there parents relaxed. They also allow you to bring your own food. People had all types of snacks. The environment was relaxing and people seemed very social. I've been to few Connecticut wineries so far this one is my favorite.

This includes a 30 minute guided tour in the mine. There were ample parking; we went on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. The grounds were interesting to walk around and look at the ruins. The mine was also intriguing. It was dark, damp, and 52 degrees. There were caverns throughout. The water was dripping on our heads and the floor was damp and some spots had puddles. I would recommend sneakers/boots not sandals since mine got a little damp. It was pretty cool seeing the green copper lines too. Overall, a historic spot worth a visit!

If you're planning on going into the mines make sure you wear closed toed shoes with a good tread.
