East Sacramento is a gorgeous part of Sacramento to visit. While I wish I could afford a home…read morethere, I am happy to enjoy the homes from the street as we pass by on errands and during the holidays when the Fab 40's are even more fabulous with lights and decorations. This area of Sacramento is so cute and has a great variety of shops, parks, restaurants and is just a vibe. One of our favorite restaurants was in this area, and when they were open we would be in the area weekly for our trivia night and explored a lot more. We tend to spend most of our time near Folsom Blvd and J Street. Corti Brothers is a must visit when you're in the area and if you're in the area on the weekend Moonbelly Bakery in on the cusp of East Sacramento and is so worth a visit. More staples of East Sacramento that we visit are The Pet Department Store for all our dogs needs, where the staff is super sweet and always gives our dog treats. The Sacramento Turn Verein where they host Oktoberfest, Bockfest and teach German Language classes. McKinley Park with its Rose Garden and Tiferet By The Park for a snack and drink while you're walking around. This whole area has trees lining the road, a lot of shade and gives a more peaceful feel to a busy city area. The neighborhoods are so cute and easily walkable. While I mentioned a few restaurants and businesses there are so many to discover here.

I meet a lot of the neighbors when I walk with my dog and I love their beautiful homes with all the roses and flowers in bloom this time of year. Moreover, I thought driving through Downtown Woodland would be the scenic route since, I never drove through the Business District. Surprisingly, I really thought Woodland CA would be a city as historically quaint as Virginia City, Nevada but, Woodland doesn't possess too many old buildings per city block. My POV: Woodland, California is a quaint and peaceful city nestled in the heart of Northern California's Central Valley region but, has a bustling vibe and more people per square foot than Virginia City NV.

In search of a place to rest the eve of my flight out of SMF, I found this city. By the way, I clocked the drive and you can get into the airport premises from the Main Street/I5 entrance in 10 minutes flat. No speeding, No Traffic.... Now, back to the Woodland: 1. great eateries with small town values 2. parking plentiful 3. clean decent hotels and inns around to stay 4. close to Davis. 5. easy on/off the freeway (#15) I've stayed in the Woodland enough times for overnighters that I can safely say you are in a great little town. My next task is to schedule a visit to the Woodland when they have some fun activity (Like the Honey Festival) If you're in their neck of the woods, I suggest a stop.

Mmkay, so this town is full of people who have grown up here and are not looking for it to change…read moreanytime soon. It is going to be filled with new people in brand new houses. I call this area "New Dixon." It will have houses that cost less than places in the Bay Area but brand new houses that cost more than the ones inherited by their current owners already here. Dixon is a great sleepy little town with its fair share of opinionated folks as is the case with just about everywhere else. There aren't many streetlights on one side of town and that looks to be changing with the construction of new houses. I fear (very very mildly) that there will be many many people who choose to live here and commute to places where they can make a lot more money, but I also welcome that because they'll spend a fair amount of it here. Kind of a win-win. With the current situation of staying at home and teleworking, AT&T is putting in what looks to be a fiber backbone which will hopefully make internet speeds here decent. There are a number of old timey politicians here whose policies may be past their primes. We'll see how this turns out. Its location is also fairly ideal. I can cruise to the bay for a day or I can head up to ski if that's what's on the schedule. Then I can come home, kick back and relax. Maybe watch the rest of the world's problems on the news or read about it on Yelp or the internet. Life is good. Enjoy.

Golden Gate Bridge of CSUS…read more Located between Campus Commons and Sac State, this bridge is a great shortcut if you are looking at parking outside of the school area. It's a great stop to get on to the trails on weekends and is much better for pedestrians then the J street or Howe Bridge. Another underrated aspect is how brought the structure is at night great for getting on campus and feeling pretty safe crossing. Also a good spot for pictures. Defintely worth checking out if you are in the area!

Wow! Taste of Land Park was such a wonderful time!…read more So, I just relocated to Sacramento from the Bay Area this year. I heard about this event in my 'hood from little signs posted around. Not sure where else they advertised, but there was a pretty healthy crowd. I heard from one of the vendors that over 600 people showed up! And one of them was fabulous Yelper Karen K. (+ her husband :) who I got to meet for the first time - pretty sure I heard people raving about her fly sunglasses all over the event ;) I love food tasting events like these and have been to several in the Bay Area. I gotta say, Taste of Land Park can compete with the best of them. Not only was the entry price cheaper ($45!) than the tickets usually are for this sort of thing, the portions were HEFTY at every vendor, there was a huge variety of food available and the vibe was super chill! It really felt like a neighborhood event - it wasn't in the middle of Land Park, which made a huge difference. It was just on 10th street in the middle of people's houses, which gave it a secluded block party feel. Shoutout to the band playing - they were pretty legit and had a horn section! Also, no long lines!!! A chronic problem at these events is that you end up waiting in huge lines at each vendor, and by the time you're through the line, they've run out of food anyway. Lol. Not the case at ToLP - vendors were super well prepared & generous. Pretty sure I could've gone for seconds at almost every vendor if I wasn't so freakin' stuffed after the first go around! Ernesto's Mexican even gave away free tote bags to bring food home with!! I'm not much of a drinker, but there were also a lot of wine tasting options available. I only sampled one glass of wine (told you I'm not a big drinker) and it was awesome. They also had a local craft vendor section, but the prices there were a little out of control. One pillow was as much as the entry ticket to Taste of Land Park! Lmao. Passed on those... I didn't see a sign/brochure with all of the vendors listed, so here are the vendors I remember: + Vic's Ice Cream: Man, they even gave each person a cone. They had four flavors, I had the raspberry ribbon which was delicious & my new flavor pick when I go there. I need to give Vic's major props as I just went to an ice cream social for the Belle Cooledge Library that they also sponsored. Gotta love a business that gives back to the community! + Raleys: Had a serve yourself bar with fruit, multiple desserts, cheeses, olives and flavored water. They had a blackberry & goat cheese crostini that was one of my favorites of the event. + Nugget: They had HUGE portions of grapes! Also a huge variety of cheeses, desserts and some selections from their deli section. The supermarkets really turned up!! + Ernesto's Mexican: Like I said earlier, they gave out tote bags which was awesome. I really liked their rice! + Burgess Burgers & BBQ: One of the most popular vendors at the event. Despite their popularity, they never had a huge line and served people super quickly! I didn't try any of their BBQ but their potato salad was REALLY good and the coleslaw had a great flavor too. + Selland's Market: Really enjoyed the noodle salad here. They had a couple other salads to choose from. + Freeport Bakery: Always a favorite!! They had a really huge variety, I had the fruit tart and buttercream cake which were delicious! They encouraged people to take multiple cakes which was so generous! + Masullo's Pizza: Instead of pizza, they served their bread with a variety of dipping sauces. Good choice and great flavors! + Can't remember the name of the bistro, but they served a salmon dish that seemed to be the crowd favorite. It was a delicious & refreshing choice for the hot day :) + Oh yeah, and someone served a very spicy olive pasta... can't remember who, but it was good. Sorry, since I didn't try most of the wine, I don't remember who was there. Lol. Now that I think about it, there wasn't a single bad dish served. The food was really on point! Taste of Land Park was a great intro to Sacramento food & a wonderful way to show off the neighborhood. I'll definitely be returning next year! See you there Karen :)

Carmichael is a nice little town between interstate 80 and highway 50 even though it's a little…read moretrek to the freeways. When I first moved to the Sacramento area back in 2007. Carmichael was where I called home for about 4 years and really loved living here it's a pretty quite town for the most part. There Carmichael Park which has a nice sized dog park and nice sized tennis courts and every Sunday where you can enjoy the Farmers Market. There are also small neighborhood park like Jan Dr Park, Gibbons park and Maddox Park. There and nice shopping centers and nice family owned Restaurants around and one of my favorite coffee shops Boulevard Coffee and now they have a Dutch Bros! There also the La Sierra community center for activities and many classes for Adults as well as for the kiddos too! They also do the 4th of July Fireworks show nearby as well. Most people just watch from the Big Lots Parking lot located on Fair Oaks Blvd and Engle Rd. There are plenty of schools like: Carmichael Elementary Cameron ranch Elementary Mary A Deterding Elementary Coyle Ave Elementary Starr King Elementary Mission Elementary Winston Churchill Middle School John Barrett Middle School Roy Rogers middle School Del campo High school located in Fair Oaks. Mira Loma High School located in Sacramento - Arden Arcade El Camino High school located in Sacramento - Arden Arcade Rio Americano High school located in Sacramento - Arden Arcade Since, Carmichael has no actual Public High School. And a few Private schools like Jesuit as well. If you enjoy nature there's Ancil Hoffman park it absolutely beautiful let me tell you. Carmichael has so much to offer where you live here or not. There is so much to appreciate about Carmichael. Grocery shopping you have, Bel- Air, Raley's and Safeway. There a Home Depot and Walmart Neighborhood Market and a Petsmart! There are also, little Mom & Pop businesses as well!
