Now that we live in Sacramento it's also one of our most used exits heading into the city. You can get off the 5 on J and the city just opens up to you. First you'll find DOCO and the arena, you could also choose to head off to Old Sacramento. You'll see a variety of restaurants, some only open on the weekdays and some that have become staples of our community. Keep your eyes open for gorgeous and fun murals along the way as well. As you continue, you'll pass Cesar Chavez Plaza and park where there's plenty of parking for nearby adventures. The SAFE Credit Union Convention Center is only a short distance away, followed by the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Continue your drive and you're in the heart of Midtown with more shopping, food and entertainment. Also, love that Midtown has free parking on the weekends. As you continue past well known businesses like Mike's Camera Shop, Rick's Dessert bar, Ginger Elizabeth, Jungle Bird and more you'll start leaving Midtown and make your way to East Sacramento. Don't worry, there's more to love as you continue. The Sacramento Turn Verein where you'll find annual Oktoberfest celebrations. La Trattoria Bohemia, Pachamama, the newly relocated Allspicery for tasty food, drinks and ingredients. There is a lot to discover on this street. If you drive far enough this one way street becomes two lanes and then disappears into H Street, ok it didn't disappear, it merges and becomes part of H street and then Fair Oaks Blvd. But what really matters are the memories we made along the way.

It was really cool when she began making out with her girlfriend while they sat in between each other's legs/on laps. My favorite part was when their boyfriend showed up and joined them. All three of them rubbing and kissing. Then into the pool they went and the underwater petting began. It was great. Who knew Thunder was so open to community-led sex ed! The many kids with front row seats certainly enjoyed it! Bar and food is decent, so I added a star, ooh wee!

We saw several waitresses going to all the cabanas and the loungers throughout the day. Can you guess how many times we were visited by a waitress in the 9 hours we were there? Zero! I didn't know if I should feel it was racism or what but we were never asked if we wanted something from the bar or from the kitchen. We had to get up each time and walk to the bar ourselves. I also ordered from the kitchen and we had to get up and go to the bar and pick it up ourselves. There were delivery guys who would deliver food from the kitchen to other patrons but when it came to us, we had to do it all ourselves. I'm not sure how to feel about the entire situation. Everything else was great but the whole experience put a huge damper on things.

Annual Old Town Elk Grove Dickens Street Faire was held on Nov 25, 20023. Advertised as having 125…read morearts and craft vendors, commercial vendors, musical acts, children's activities, free pics with Santa, etc., the event goes from 10 am to 5 pm and the tree lighting at 6 pm. We perused the event around 11:30 am for an hour. There isn't much "Dickens" at the event except for the Rio Consumnes Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution - who dressed in period clothing. This Dickens Street Faire is a bit of a misnomer - especially compared to The Great Dickens Christmas Fair & Victorian Holiday Party at Cow Palace in San Francisco. City of Elk Grove has been holding weekly events at the Old Town Plaza on Sundays. While the effort is palpable, Old Town Elk Grove parking leaves much to be desired and there aren't enough tables/chairs/shaded areas to make the events worth attending and staying for more than 30 minutes or so. I try to support local community businesses though and hope that the city can find more ways to make the events continue to happen.

It gets so crowded but worth the time to walk around the block(s) or drive through depending on the time.

Adj: faithful and fascinating (facility)…read more So the Sacramento Water Tower has been a symbolic structure for many, many years, and while it's a water holding(?) and pumping facility, it also has an artistic side to it. We visited this fascinating facility on a walk on part of the Sacramento River Levee and checked out the architecture, the art, and the surroundings. First there's the facility itself which is described on several metal placards welded to different sections of the fence that surrounds the facility building on one side and the Sacramento River on the other side, allowing visitors to view the river safely (and not fall over and down the embankment) where there's not the river bank that's part of the Sacramento River Bike Trail which leads to this area. Then there's the big mirrored "River River" engraved wall on the front (or is it the back?) of facility. On its 2 sides there are words related to flowing water, rivers, and natural sounds associated with the Sacramento River (or any water way). These are actually quite interesting and tasteful touches added to what would otherwise be a boring water management and transport facility. There's also an open area, like a giant platform that's kind of cool to just hang out and bike on. It's technically part of the bike trail on the levee, but it's a very wide section so you could conceivable do some fun roller blading/skating, dancing, maybe even skating boarding in this area although I'm not sure it's allowed. In any case, it's a great area for viewing the river and taking in all the sights and sounds of nature and a good resting place too. It's towards the south end of the bike trail so it's a good stopping spot for those who have traveled a distance from the north end of the Sacramento River bike trail. Overall, the Sacramento Water Tower is an iconic part of the city and although I miss its original "City of Trees" slogan over the "Farm to Fork Capitol", I still enjoy seeing the water tower whenever I drive past and now I know what the facility is about and have discovered that it's a pretty cool spot along the Sac River levee.

Several years ago the slogan changed from "Welcome To Sacramento, City of Trees" to "America's Farm-to-Fork Capital." which caused a a lot of local uproar, but little concern elsewhere. Regardless of its slogan the structure itself is utilitarian and while it serves its purpose well, there is very little artistry. Nor is there any provision to visit

There's a nice variety of Chinese and Vietnamese shops along this busy boulevard. You can find restaurants, markets, salons, jewelers, and other Asian owned businesses. As a result of this pandemic, we have not seen any flyers or ads for Lunar New Year presentations. Maybe before covid, they had family events for the community to ring in the New Year, but likely this year will be different. Please check your local listing for information.
