We chartered a trawler for a week to see some of Desolation Sound (a week is not nearly enough)…read more The boat was in excellent shape, gave us no concerns at all (we left a small list of minor items they needed to look at), and completely suited our purposes. Very enjoyable holiday. Strongly recommend.

We recently returned from chartering a trawler from DSYC for a week of exploring Desolation Sound…read more Every aspect of the experience with DSYC was first rate and handled with friendliness and professionalism by everyone from the front office to the dock. We opted to have DSYC provide a skipper and we included the instruction and certification. I have been through many certification programs over the years for both profession and recreation and Rick was perhaps the best instructor that I have ever had. Of course, we were concerned about having a stranger literally living with us for a week in a somewhat confined space and we realized that if it were the wrong person, it could have been a disaster. Rick proved to be a wonderful traveling companion as well as an extremely knowledgeable skipper, who not only didn't get in the way of a good vacation, he helped make it an exceptionally great vacation. If you haven't toured Desolation Sound by charter boat - you got to do this! Truly one of the best vacations my wife and I have ever had, and we have traveled all over the world. It was so great, that my wife is now trying to talk me into buying a trawler! Now guys, that's a bonus on the deal that's worth the price of admission all by itself.

My partner and I booked a week long sailing trip with Graham about 3 months in advance, starting…read moreJune 1, 2015. Upon booking we were required to pay a deposit, which came to around $600. First red flag was the fact that they only accepted payment via email money transfer, didn't think about this until after the fact unfortunately. Anyways, as we all know, sometimes life can get in the way -- we ended up putting an offer on our first home and unfortunately had to reschedule the trip because of timing conflicts. We contacted Graham about a month before the trip was to begin to enquire about rescheduling and informed him of the situation. We got a huge guilt-trip from him, telling us how if we rescheduled we would be ruining someone else's trip that booked for the same time and how it was really rude to try and reschedule. He was also trying to get into our personal business about buying our home and tell us that we can do anything we need to from the boat -- long story short, he was very unhelpful and very unprofessional. We ended the conversation by letting him know that we'll think it over and give him a call back and let him know our decision. At this point, after speaking to him on the phone, we weren't really comfortable shelling out more money to this guy, even if we could reschedule -- we decided to cancel. We were fully aware that by canceling we would probably end up losing our deposit. We phoned Graham and left several messages. He never returned our calls. We even sent him an email letting him know our choice and that we understood if he had to keep the deposit -- we just wanted to know what the situation was. But, alas, we never heard back from the guy. He kept our money with no explanation and ran. No recourse since we paid via email money transfer, too. Spend the extra couple hundred dollars and go with a reputable sailing school, steer clear of Stowaway Adventures.

This course was not what I had hoped it to be. Instruction was very condescending and poor. If you didn't understand what was said the first time, then you were quickly criticized for it. One famous quote from this trip I will never forget was.. " You really need to stop asking frivolous questions!" Wow, I thought that's what a beginners sailing course was all about asking questions. Or... "We're not out here to sight see..." Again, I couldn't sit for a few minutes as we're about to anchor and take some pictures! I didn't enjoy my experience with this school, and wanted to share my experience with others.

I have never been in a helicopter, and I have wanted to take a ride for a long time. We were…read morespending a long weekend in Victoria and were chatting with the Concierge at our hotel. She had recently gone up to Campbell river with her bf, and they had taken the Comox Glacier Tour, she was basically so excited that she was babbling with joy and enthusiasm. How can you ignore something like that? We set up a tour for the next day. 49 North was super accommodating, we had a drive in front of us, to get there, so we scheduled for 3 pm. We took a relaxing, winding trip up from Victoria to Campbell River; it's a lovely drive. We arrived about an hour early, so we just stopped in. Jean-Marc took us up. His wife pulled together a lunch for us, and we had a fabulous experience, flying over mountains, glaciers, lakes, and having one of the best views for lunch. Seriously a stunning experience. Jean-Marc has been flying for 20 years, and this is his business, he gave us thrills, and we felt safe the entire flight. There is a lot of turbulence when you cross over the tops of mountains, but that only gave the whole experience more of that roller coaster feel. I highly recommend taking a helicopter trip with 49 North, if you get to Vancouver Island. If you listen carefully, you can probably hear me babbling with enthusiasm.

The pilot brad was awesome and best pilot we have had in helicopter. If your looking to make memories that will last the rest of your life, you will never forget this overflight of the glacier area. Do yourself a favor and forget the whale watching and grizzly bear tours and head to 49 North. It will be the one that we will always remember.
