I scored lower than 5 on the above review for a couple of reasons…read more (1) When I was called about confirming the reservation, the host did not explain why they were calling to offer our group different rooms (had booked a room with two double beds and were asked about a room with a single double bed and sofabed instead). (2) In one of the rooms where I slept with another occupant, there was a condensing unit that was dripping. This kept us awake. I was able to obtain earplugs from the customer service desk (helpful). However, upon check-out, we received an apology about the dripping unit. It was implied that it was our own fault that we had chosen not to rebook a different room. Had there been any inclination that there was an issue with the room, of course, we would have rebooked. So, not only were we *not* told that there was an issue with the room, but we were met with resistance and as one of the checkout folks said, "gentle suggestion for next time, accept the offer of another room to rebook". I was annoyed but kept this to myself and instead said would they please address their unit. Anyway - I will make sure not to stay there again.

Ian Houston (Assistant Manager) answered the phone and was very helpful and efficient, he even sent down another employee to pick me up at the Marina. I am sorry to say I misplaced the employees name but he was friendly, welcoming and prompt. The rental process itself was easy and they took time to quickly ensure my information was accurate and my corporate discount was applied. Finding the car was quick and easy. It was in great shape and their assessment of its nicks/dents was accurate. In addition, I was able to drop the vehicle off at the Marina when I was done which was an absolute bonus and much appreciated (you could arrange to have it dropped off there for you to pick up as well). When I shared my good experience with a few locals they were not at all surprised and had nothing but good things to say about Ian and the staff at National. A great 'small town' rental experience, highly recommended.

We we charged for under bumper scratches and asked to replace the full bumper. According to the manager, this is part of their practice and have charged other clients for similar damage in the past. Also, the parking barriers at the Comox airport are high and that, according to the manager "It is your choice to park on the barrier." So, related damages under the car are not their issue. Very disappointing service considering how often we have used this company.

The previous experience with B&B we had was not hands-on where the hosts hired helps to cook for breakfast, cleaning, etc. it was not as homely as this one where the hosts meet you, talk to you, cook for you, etc. It was just like staying with friends. They event have a resident dog, called Cosmo. Every morning during breakfast we got to know the hosts and the hosts got to know us more. It was a fun 1-1.5 hour morning ritual. This B&B has 2 hands-on hosts. The hostess, Carolyn, cooks breakfast( accommodated to our diet requirements even), cleans the rooms, and gives tips and recommendations on fun things too do and where to eat (no need to look up the internet for these). She knows a lot about Vancouver Island and made great suggestions.The host, Steve, built the house, fix things, and make sure the hot tub is hot. The house is BEAUTIFUL and comfortable. I was amazed by Steve's workmanship on the details of the house he built. I am impressed of the quality of the house inside and outside (the garden is also beautiful). The property sits on a beautiful land across from the ocean and a view of Denman Island. It is so beautiful. I woke up the first morning and was mesmerized by the colorful sunrise. The room was clean and immaculate. They also have a hot tub that you can use and the view from the hot tub is so beautiful. On top of the view of ocean and island, you can see horses running around in their farm land from the hot tub. Carolyn pays attention to details of what the guests will need during the stay such as a night/emergency light, romantic candles (electric ones), towels for hot tub, robes, mints, glasses/cups, information about the house, the warning about electric fence by the horses, etc. The house has a separate living room and a kitchenette for the guests that includes a big refrigerator, toaster, microwave, electric tea kettle, coffee maker(she prepared coffee everyday, guests just have to push the button in the morning), plates, cups, glasses, utensil, etc. It is very convenient if you want to prepare your own snacks or heat up dinner leftovers. The bed was also comfortable. The room has enough heat and ventilation to control the temperature inside. I had good sleeps during the stay. Showers were also working properly with enough water pressure. When we reported that the bathroom door made creaking noise, Steve provided us with oil to fix that problem. We didn't hear noise from the room next door or above. Also, we were left alone and hosts didn't come into our room during the stay. We will be back for sure. I gave this place a 5-stars rating!

History was the reason I rented two nights at The Old Courthouse Inn. The inn's lovely, historic…read moreexterior grabs the viewer's attention and distracts attention from what's nearby. What's inside is even more distracting. The owners were gracious and accommodating, even providing a tea kettle, and helping the two least-techy guests they've ever had figure out the fridge and TV. Check-in was easy, and assistance was offered with luggage. The king-sized bed was comfortable . The room was clean, and the windows provided lots of daylight. The cleaning staff did a great job during our stay, which we appreciated. It was wonderful having a café in the building that served very good biscuits and eggs benedict. Breakfast is included with the lodging! The room we stayed in had some fragile knickknacks. At times we were afraid to move, for fear of knocking them over, especially when using the rolling desk chair that had a life of its own. There are fragile knickknacks throughout the common areas with many "do not touch" signs. Because the building is historic, heat in midwinter requires pre-set radiators with "Don't touch" notices and a portable radiator that warns users to not set above medium. Outlets require strategic consideration, in order to not trip fuses. The interior stair handrails' were wrapped with holiday decorations, which made them mostly useless. My husband is disabled, and I erred in not requesting a room on the main level. He felt vulnerable on the stairs because of the decorations removing the ability to grab on. The bathroom door bumps into the toilet and therefore does not open fully into the bathroom; some maneuvering was needed to access the toilet. The bathroom fan couldn't keep up with shower condensation, so we continued to be bathed by water dripping from the ceiling after stepping out of the shower. It was like an unplanned final rinse. Be prepared to wait a while for hot water to show up in the bathroom sink or shower. There are only two chairs in the room, both uncomfortable. The rolling chair mentioned above, and a not very "comfy" chair. Our druthers are that hotel living areas have at least one very comfy chair or couch. Lamp lighting was dim throughout the common areas and our room. It was difficult to read a book with the lighting provided. Breakfast for lodgers is in the Cafe on the main level. Oddly, in the dead of winter and at 7 a.m. (when the cafe opens), a VERY dim light was the only one on in the hallway on our floor. We had to use a flashlight to find our way downstairs and back upstairs after breakfast. In addition, the two main entrances at the back of the building had no lighting at night. Unnerving, in winter. Some of our complaints can be attributed to the fact that the building is historic, but most could have been remedied (such as lighting and furnishings) to make our room and the common areas more comfortable and safe.

As a historian and an archaeologist, I thought it would be neat to spend the weekend in this establishment. Located in the heart of the Old Townsite, constructed in 1939 in the form of my favourite Tudor-style architecture and once used as a jail, police station and courthouse, there was no way I'd turn it down. The building itself is very well kept. Having underwent a few renovations, the charm is still preserved as the original doors, locks, windows, lights, etc. are all intact. There are also several pictures and knick-knacks donated by the locals that tell the story of Powell River's pioneer days. Prices are reasonable and all rooms come with a self-serve continental breakfast. In addition, each room has its very own television and wireless internet. Not very vintage, you say, but it was a nice luxury to have during the hockey season. The staff is great, the view of the Sunshine Coast was beautiful and to experience a glimpse of what life was like back in the day was a real treat. All-in-all, I find it very fortunate that Powell River was able to integrate its history with our modern-day necessities. I am all for the preservation of cultural heritage and I can say that they've done an exceptional job with the Old Courthouse Inn.

SAILING CHANGES in effect o4/14…read more Wow, what a day. It started at 6am. My friend did NOT want to take any chances missing the first sailing up to the Sunshine coast, otherwise it would have meant arriving in Comox much later than planned since the ferries run at about 3-4 hour intervals. This ship seemed to be moving at a faster speed than others. My friend had made sure to print out all the sailing info from all the terminals were used that day and for some reason it said the sailing to Comox would be 2hours 20min. Imagine our surprise when we pulled in only 1hour 20 later. There was a TYPO on our directions!! We were so happy to get to the hotel an hour early.

I stayed at Seal Bay on a busy, long weekend Friday night and I LOVED IT. Even though the place was…read morepacked to the rafters, (with more RV's than I have ever seen in my life) it was quiet, peaceful and restful. The campground is very well laid out - there was a lot of space for tenting, and one of my favorite things ever - each tenting spot had a raised square that was leveled off so that the tenter was not sleeping on an incline, or rocks or the like. Also, each tenting site had its own running water! There were also showers and really, the loveliest bathrooms I have ever seen at a campsite. Clean, not smelly, and attached to a gorgeous wooden hall that had *two* built in fireplaces, and ample space for a party, if one were in the mood for that. This campground also has laundry facilities, wood for purchase for burning in the fire pits, (I suppose most campgrounds have that, but anyway, it gets *delivered* to your site!) and wonderfully friendly staff. It is situated on about 60 acres of privately owned land, 20 acres of which are dedicated to camping, in a relatively quiet area near a winery ;) I think we were exceptionally lucky to get a couple of tenting spots there on a long weekend, as it was very full, but mostly of rv's. I suspect it is booked much in advance, so I would recommend making reservations. I would not hesitate to go back to this place.
