Just don't tell my mom. She's still getting over the whole "scuba diving with sharks" thing. I am lucky enough that I get to take float planes to the island(s) for work. I know, it's a tough job. This was a 2 day meeting that included a kayak picnic dinner and lunch on a sunny patio. Not even going to tell you who i work for!! Needless to say the flight over was awesome, very relaxed. We boarded from the Fraser river "terminal" where our pilot showed up about 5 min before flight. They proceeded to guestimate our luggage weight and off we went to Gabriola! Sweet ride. The whole experience though was all about our experience from Gabriola to Richmond...first off, you cannot beat the "airport" sign (pic attached) not to mention our pilot who had us all in song before take of. Funniest guy ever. He clearly loves his job and does it well. Highly recommend it.

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. I'd been skydiving before, so I expected the little seaplane to be similar to the skydiving helicopter. Which it was and wasn't. Loud, yes. But much smaller!! You're given a pair of sound-protecting headphones, which makes the whole experience more surreal -- lip-reading others and taking in the sights with the drone of the engine in your head. But the scenery. Oh the scenery. It was so wonderful being up there, above the clouds, taking in the endless evergreens and maples, spying on the bears (amazing!) and watching humpback wales blowing water spikes into the sky. The glacier tour was the most terrifying part; you're uncomfortably aware of the fact that you've put your life in a stranger's hands. The huge slabs of ice and snow on the mountaintops dwarfed our little seaplane. We did a landing on a small lake only reachable by air. On the nearby shore was an abandoned cabin and I couldn't help but but smile when the sheer isolation of it all struck me. Our pilot was very nice and he didn't skimp on the 1.5 hour tour. It took more like 2 hours. He even flew us down over our hotel, which I enjoyed immensely. Well worth the money and a fun, inspiring way to enjoy Vancouver Island.

Marcus was very disappointing pointing out what we were seeing. He blamed it on the head sets. In the morning we took a boat ride to see bears, sea lions, harbor seals and he spent time pointing out many things. Unfortunately the flight yielded ziltch with info. I would in the future ask 2 questions. 1-does the pilot narrate & 2-do the headphones work & if not will he just narrate loudly. Our group felt he just went through the motions. Money not well spent.

I'm usually the one who feels the pressure to watch the purse strings on vacation, but this was a once in a lifetime thing and hands down the best way to really soak up the beauty of the area. Plus, Jason is a long-time resident and business owner, and we got some really good tips about what to do, where to go, where to eat -- all the stuff you want to know when you're seeing a place for the first time. Funny, friendly and patient. We saw a mom and her cub at the first view point. I didn't see any more bears after that but I thought seeing one was a huge blessing. The tour was an extra 30-45 minutes as we had spotted the whale's blow hole misting water off in the distance towards the tail end. It was nice the guide let us spend time trying to see it up close. Our skipper/tour guide Jack was great! The covered boat is quite comfy. Lots of leg room. I wish they had some sort of speaker system for the guide as the motors are obviously very loud. Love the top deck viewing and the fact that there's plenty of room to move around the boat so you aren't seated in one spot for the entire tour. This is a great tourist activity. Highly recommend!

Zack took an incredible amount of time for our tour and gave us a personalized adventure.  We were also blessed to see whales, porpoise, urchins, starfish,  seals, sea lions. He knew all the places to go and gave such an amazing insight of the different islands and mountains. He also gave us snacks and beverages from locally sourced places. Literally we could not have asked for better and it was even more amazing than we could have imagined.  When we come back we will ONLY book here.

From…read morethe moment we walked on the dock, Captain Zach welcomed us on board, and made is feel comfortable and safe, he even had a scavenger hunt game prepared for our toddler! Once we were on our way, the learning began! Did you know that oysters are one of the most sustainable forms of aquaculture? Or that one little oyster filters a bathtub of water per day, keeping our oceans clean, pristine, fresh and beautiful? We learned so many incredible facts about his family oyster farm, the innovation they are adding to the industry, oysters as a species and the local aquaculture. The boat has both inside cabin space and outside deck space, making it great to enjoy the sea breeze and spray, but also shade from the hot sun. Captain Zach has an incredibly deep knowledge of the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound, pointing out mountains, islands, bays and even rock formations, and added a depth of history to everything he shared. His passion to share this area of Vancouver Island is contagious! We saw a pod of dolphins, sea lions, eagles, all sorts of waterfowl. At no moment did we feel rushed, it was a beautiful leisurely day on the water - that also kept at 3 year old happy and engaged all day - and ended with the a delicious feast of oysters. We all had a blast and can't wait to be back.

We saw Pacific White Sided Dolphins in a group of 150+, Sea Lions feeding on salmon, Humpback Whale mother and calf, black bear and incredible tidal whirlpools. Everday is different when you go out. Today's tour took us through Discovery Passage and around Sonora with dockside lunch on Stuart Island at Big Bay. Jos and Rentia are incredibly kind, courteous and experienced. Very safety oriented and well connected with the local guiding and business community. Their Ikaika enclosed boat was very clean, quiet, fast and accesible for all abilities. Highly recommend Eagle Eye. If your fortunate to get Jos, he'll share some great life stories, photography and deep ethic for protecting the Pacific coast, its wildlife, and our planet.
