Only giving three stars for a few minor reasons and probably because I've gotten older and picky about things that only rub me the wrong way, but are perfectly ok with the rest of the world. First, IMO, it's not exactly the family friendly experience of other drag strips in Texas. KINDA. I mean, it IS family friendly, and my kids had a great time, but they are kids, and weren't aware of what all the drunk locals where doing and or saying around us. Not too us, nobody messed With us or gave us a hard time, unless you count the fact my wife, walking without me, and with our 6 year old son, was getting cat calls and whistles on her way to go buy us drinks at the concession stand and back. (I'm fine with this, I'm a dude, I understand, and I knew this would probably happen, and I asked her if she wanted me to go get the drinks, but our daughter seriously loves drag racing and didn't wanna leave our seat by the Christmas Tree, and our son wanted to go get the drinks, so I let them go, she had a phone, I could bring "Hell and Fury" to her side in an instant if I needed to pretty quick) Anyways, it's an old track, I hear the oldest in Texas, and it shows, if your into nostalgia, this is your kinda place, the track is even built with a slight incline, damn near a steep hill at the burnout box, I'm guessing it was designed that way back in the day to help get a good burnout for those 57 Chevys I imagine used to line up for a go. Oh yea, my BIG problem with this place, is you better bring CASH, they don't accept plastic for anything. Nothing, period, if you don't, you gotta leave the track, like we did, drive into town and hit the ATM, they do NOT have one at the track. You will need paper cash, in hand, to get in the gate, or even buy a bottle of water. It's 2018, you can get a FREE card reader from Paypal, or most any banks these days. FREE, it attaches to any smart phone, and you can then swipe any credit card to conduct business, I've even bought peaches off the side of the road, by a dude in the back of a pickup truck near Fredericksburg with my MasterCard. If you don't want a sun burn, go at sundown like we did, or go at night, or if you wanna look funny bring a parasol, but if your a guy I wouldn't, that might get you some funny looks. They have aluminum bleachers to sit in, but they ARE NOT COVERED. Bring sunblock, or go at night. Just go at night, it's Texas, gets hot around here anyways.. The people I met that worked there, were really nice and friendly, we will definitely be going back, now we know what to expect, things will be 100% fine I'm sure. I'm attaching a few shots I got with my phone because this yelp is lacking in all kinds of photos, was just a Street legal shootout, so no big HP pics. But some is better than none.

First, take into account, I have car that can almost get into the 9's. So this one might be a…read morelittle bias. Having raced on over 7 different NHRA tracks, I feel that I can judge this track. Since it is only a IHRA approved track, I didn't expect all the safety precautions a full NHRA track would provide. They did have the standard EMS standing by. They do require helmets and require you to have your windows rolled up, but that is about it. I think there are roll cage requirements, but not sure of that one. I've been to this track about 4 times and really didn't enjoy any of the visits. First: every time I went, there were a lot of import cars there. Not that I mind that anybody races, in fact, i have helped a few of them with their engines while waiting in line. But for some reason this crowd seems to be very arrogant. Second: On more than on occasion their were people who ran there air conditioners while in line and caused water condensation at the staging. Third: If you have a car that is in the 10's stay away from the right lane. Not only is there a small hump about 3/4 of the way down the track, the finish line isn't lit up or have any notification (except the stripe, which is very hard to see at night). Many times, i didn't get out of the gas soon enough and thank goodness for the brembo rotors and wilwood brakes. I litterally hopped around the corner for the shutdown. Overall the track is good for slower cars, but If you start pushing the 10's you might want to go somewhere else.

Exceeded expectations…read more    We had a blast.  Let me start with a few things because some context for an experience like this might help someone else decide if they want to do it or not.  I am not a gamer.  I do love playing mario kart and fifa with my kids on occasion but that's about it.  I have always loved go-karting.  I was invited to the one line racing center by a friend who had been before and loved it.  I knew the concept but honestly didn't really know what to expect.  Well...it was incredible.  I was pretty horrible at it and I'm really competitive so it wasn't easy to crash out a lot and not be on the leaderboard.  We did two different tracks, one which is part of their regular series that everyone competes in and then also COTA with a totally different car. A few things that stood out to me.  The staff was very nice, incredibly informative.  I love driving a stick shift but don't use paddle shifters so that took me some time to get used to.  The technology here is so immersive.  The whole 'rig' moves.  It shakes when you crash, it bumps when you bump, etc...the handling of the car felt incredibly real and varied by car which was both impressive and made it harder (at least for me).   We were there for nearly 2 hours playing almost non stop and if I didn't have to go, I'd have loved to stay longer.  It's an investment for sure and one that is well worth it imo for people of all interests and driving skill level  (they did mention they can adjust things to make it easier to pick up for newer folks, etc..) BTW - I think this would be a really fun team-building event for any companies out there, especially if you're a competitive bunch. If you want to do something different from the usual with your friends, sign up.  They'll soon have some adult beverages available too!  Hopefully you ahve as much fun as I did.

Flew to Austin to go to the MotoGP motorcycle races this year at Circuit Of the Americas (COTA) as…read moreit is one of the newer tracks in the U.S. and MotoGP no longer comes to Laguna Seca in California. Comparing the tracks and the area surrounding it, I can understand why the race moved. The track is obviously fantastic as the host F1, Indy, NASCAR along with a ton of other events, but there is a ton of space around the track to watch races; from a variety of grandstands to areas on the lawn, there is a place for everyone. There are a ton of vendors with a variety of foods, merch, and other race specific merch to purchase (Ie. Motorcycle accessories, parts, etc for motorcycle races, etc). They are also building on to the venue with various amusement park rides and to suit family members who may not be as interested in racing. The investment in the venue is awesome! Recommendations: the venue is pretty big so getting familiar with it before hand is a good idea. The is a COTA app you can download which has your tickets, tack maps etc. You can walk around most of the track (not the whole thing) or use the trolley which can save allot of time if you want to get some place in a hurry. There is also an underpass which can cut walking time from one side of the track to another. We will defiantly return to COTA in the future for future races and recommend it to you as well!

Started sprinkling, then slowly turned to rain. By the time it was lightly raining, I had seen everything. Took a ton of pictures. Grabbed some food and just enjoyed everyone walking around with either a huge turkey leg, big baby bottles, buckets of food, 3 foot long meat on skewers. It was pretty insane to watch. The whole place was mapped out really well. Easy flow walking pattern. Water stations and bathrooms marked with huge flags. Lots of tables and chair for seating while you eat. Also an area of tables and chairs that was covered and also with a big DJ stage. Parking was easy. They charged $15.00 to park. There was a tram that would pick you up. I actually walked in, but took the tram back to my car. Leaving was confusing. You're just following cones out. So I followed the cones, and I was only able to make a right turn, whereas I came in, I should have made a left. But ok, let's just follow where the cones tell me to go. Next thing I know I'm only able to go into another parking lot. And this lot charged $30.00 so I lucked out being at the other lot, but okay, so here I am in another lot when I'm trying to drive out of here. I ran over a cone and made my own lane. Finally I exited out. All in all, security was nice when I came in. I had a small clear bag and my empty Yeti. I never filled my Yeti with the water they provided. If I was in dire need of water I would have gotten water. But I was good and it definitely wasn't hot. I would do this again. Some better planning in my part. Head phones. Would have liked to have listened to my own music and been in my own world. Small to go containers with leak proof lids. The food was large portions. So once you have 1 meal, you're kind of full to try other things. Hopefully I know the next time this happens, and I'll be better prepared. Really fun and a cool experience.
