H2R's infamous Tow Audi.
Stef S.

In a word: "wheeeeeee!!!" Harris Hill Road is--without a doubt--one of my favorite places in the universe. I'm often accused of living on H2R's couch more than I live at my house, haha. (In my defense, it's a really comfy couch.) It's run a lot like a country club, so most of the days are "member days" where members (and guests they bring along) can come out, run laps, and chill in the clubhouse to their heart's content. It's one of the less expensive tracks in Texas to join, plus there's a reciprocal agreement with MSR-Cresson and MSR-Houston where you can run their open member days as well for a small fee. A month's dues are about as much as a single trackday, only you get the whole month to drop in and run whenever there's open member time. Pretty neat. Never fear if you're not a member or just want to check it out--there's other opportunities to come out there. The staff and members are friendly and love it when new folks drop by. I started playing with my car by going to the high-performance driver's ed events, which are great events because if you're somewhat of a n00b, you get a friendly hostag--err, instructor in your car to help you out. They also offer mini-schools if you'd like some more one-on-one instruction, and teen driver's classes to get the *real* n00bs some more experience. Overall, H2R is the perfect place to play around with a car's limits. There's no walls to hit. It's the only track I've taken my only-road-car-at-the-moment on because going off usually just means that you have to wash a little dirt and grass off. The fact that you're actually encouraged to be a bit of a hoon is great. I got it out of my system here to spare myself the speeding tickets on public roads, haha. The clubhouse is nice and well-maintained. They even have a kids' room with video games in the front if you've got guests who can't see over a steering wheel yet. (Definitely encourage your significant others to get out there and drive, too, though!) Also, there's plenty of loaner helmets if you want to take passengers or don't have one of your own. The staff is awesome and supportive of just about anyone doing anything in motorsport. There's a little bit of everyone who comes out here--autocrossers, LeMons/Chump racers, karters, drifters, rallycrossers, Spec Miata racers, motorcyclists, a couple pros, etc., etc., etc.--it's awesome. You don't have to have a super-nice car to come out here--it just has to be in decent mechanical condition and safe to drive. In fact, people driving non-track-prepped cars usually get a few cheers out of the regulars. Rental Camrys FTW! There's a few loaner cars on hand via H2R's partnership with Roger Beasley, so if all else fails, you can probably drive around a Mazda or the owner's infamous "tow Audi." The full calendar is always posted to their website, which is great since you can check ahead before going all the way to San Marcos. A couple days of the week are motorcycle days, so check out the Elite Trackdays group if you'd like to ride your motorcycle really fast. They're good people, too. What can I say? I love this place.

This was an absolute blast!!! This review is coming from a lady that has never driven in a race…read moretrack, but has passed a person or two on the German Autobahn in a mini cooper ;) My boyfriend and I were gifted a racing package for Christmas and got to use it today. Rachel was SO helpful in helping us get booked and she warmly welcomed us today. I've been known to be a little bit of a dare devil but I was truly terrified as we went through our safety briefing...there's so much to know, so many turns and water hazards and ahhhhh!!! I listened intently, trying to soak everything in...I had to remember to keep it smooth, and listen to the instructor....ok, got it. My boyfriend drove first-3 laps around the track. I got to watch where he was on the track and when he finished his drive, I was up. I got into the car and let Steve, the instructor, know I was terrified. Steve was an absolute legend!!! He gave calm instructions and really made the experience fun! He's a class act and a total professional-even when I fishtailed a smidge he quickly grabbed the wheel and helped me correct it and then calmed my nerves to get my mind back on track. The whole experience was outstanding! If you're able to do it-go for it! These guys made sure we had memories for a lifetime!

My husband turned 50 and I needed something big, so I purchased a packet from Longhorn racing…read morebecause he loves to watch it on TV and he said he would love to do it. I looked for a Corvette, because it's his favorite car, but they didn't have one. He drove the Ferrari Portofino. He had 2 laps with an instructor and 3 laps where he drove. I also paid for the video plus photo package. We got the video but no photo. Nevertheless it was so much fun. There were a lot more people than I anticipated driving that day. You have to wait your turn and they give you helmets to wear. The track has several turns and reminded me of a driving game. He had so much fun. He said he would love to do it again! If you can afford it, try it. I have to say the price was cheaper than a couple other places that offer this type of service in Texas. Everyone I saw leaving looked really happy.

Exceeded expectations…read more    We had a blast.  Let me start with a few things because some context for an experience like this might help someone else decide if they want to do it or not.  I am not a gamer.  I do love playing mario kart and fifa with my kids on occasion but that's about it.  I have always loved go-karting.  I was invited to the one line racing center by a friend who had been before and loved it.  I knew the concept but honestly didn't really know what to expect.  Well...it was incredible.  I was pretty horrible at it and I'm really competitive so it wasn't easy to crash out a lot and not be on the leaderboard.  We did two different tracks, one which is part of their regular series that everyone competes in and then also COTA with a totally different car. A few things that stood out to me.  The staff was very nice, incredibly informative.  I love driving a stick shift but don't use paddle shifters so that took me some time to get used to.  The technology here is so immersive.  The whole 'rig' moves.  It shakes when you crash, it bumps when you bump, etc...the handling of the car felt incredibly real and varied by car which was both impressive and made it harder (at least for me).   We were there for nearly 2 hours playing almost non stop and if I didn't have to go, I'd have loved to stay longer.  It's an investment for sure and one that is well worth it imo for people of all interests and driving skill level  (they did mention they can adjust things to make it easier to pick up for newer folks, etc..) BTW - I think this would be a really fun team-building event for any companies out there, especially if you're a competitive bunch. If you want to do something different from the usual with your friends, sign up.  They'll soon have some adult beverages available too!  Hopefully you ahve as much fun as I did.

Pro-grade quarter mile drag strip…read more Visited the track during COVID-19 on a "test and tune" Friday evening. Went right at opening time on a Friday evening at 6:00. Fee is $15 per person to enter and watch (pay as you enter the main gate). To run your car, purchase a "tech card." Tech cards are an additional $20 (pay the guys in the concession type trailer under the grandstands). Then, take your car with the "tech card" to the inspectors to have your car verified for track-worthiness. After the inspection is complete, they'll tell you your category and where to line up. If you're new to drag racing, go early before it gets really crowded late in the evening. The track follows all NHRA safety rules. So familiarize yourself with the basics before going (e.g., you must wear a helmet if your car runs below 14 seconds). After the quarter mile portion of the racetrack, there's a nice long section of roughly another quarter mile to slow down. After your run, go to the very end of the track, and slowly turn left and head back toward the grandstands to pick up your time slip. This track is welcoming to diverse cars. We saw everything from a new Lexus sedan, a Nissan GT-R, a Dodge Hellcat Challlenger, Mustangs, Camaros,, and much more. It's nice to see a wide variety of makes and models. Bathroom facilities: present but cleanliness below average Tips: (1) The parking lot is not a place to show off. Drive slowly and respectfully in the parking lot. (2) Safety and a cool head is a key to a good racing experience. During COVID-19, masks were encouraged but not enforced. This is a different culture and different social mores. So if you're hyper-paranoid, don't visit.
