WOODS on Pender - Hammock above Airstream #1

WOODS on Pender

My husband and I checked into the charming mini-resort known as Woods on Pender this past weekend…read more We've been there 4 times now, and we return annually because of their clean, reasonably-priced accommodations, the serenely peaceful setting, and their outstanding, casual-yet-professional service. David (who has checked us in each time) is the best! Their motel rooms are quite comfortable, rustically stylish, and come with a Nespresso coffee maker (and plenty of pods), mini-fridge, a smart TV, and triple-sheeted duvets. The breakfast pastries and dinner offerings at the on-site restaurant are delightful too. I recommend making resos far in advance since they book up quickly for summer weekends. Leave the rat race behind for a weekend or a week--or more--and settle in for a relaxing stay.

What a wonderful resort to relax and unwind! A true hidden gem on Pender Island. A unique yet…read morewonderful experience. True peace and quiet. A long soak and rejuvenation in a private hot tub, surrounded by greenery and chirping of dozens of birds. One of our night while walking, a fawn stumbled across my path and said hi. Wow! Amazing! The airstream was very comfortable. Nice queen bed. Own shower and bathroom. Hot water. Wifi. Cable. Amazon firebox. Kitchen with microwave and gas stove. Cutlery, pots and pans. Outside you have your own fire pit, 2 person hot tub whirling away and just waiting for you. A bbq set and lawn chairs and a huge umbrella to shade you. A huge hammock for those afternoon book readings. i mean, What more can you ask for? Air-streaming doesn't get any better than this! And the best part...the staff are so nice and accommodating. They'll give a quick orientation on what to do etc and if you need anything, they are a txt msg away. Yet, you are surrounded by nature and a lush flora. Around the property there are countless trails and everything is within a 5-10-15 min drive. There are cafes close by, farms, a bc liquor store, bookstore, restaurants, etc. everything is opening up now. Please go and support local and your backyard. Super easy to book and confirm. Also easy to cancel If ever. But dont. Its worth it. Thank you Dave for all your help! God Bless the Queen! ;) Cheers! happy camping!

Saturna Lodge - Sit on the deck and soak up the views.

Saturna Island, Canada's closest neighbor to the San Juan Islands, is a gem. Several important…read morewildlife viewing and critical habitat sites are located on the island as part of Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. The island is compact and friendly; it's customary for everyone to wave as cars pass on the narrow island roads. Saturna Lodge is especially nice. Innkeeper Laura Swan offers great advice for getting around the island and seeing the highlights, as well as practical advice like where to get coffee before you catch the ferry. Surprisingly, few of my Olympic Peninsula friends can even find the island on a map. Too bad for them-- it just means less competition for me for a room at the lodge next time I visit.

The millhouse restaurant is located in a nice older building that also operates as a lodge. I did…read morenot stay there, and only went for dinner once. The food was good, if a little pricy. However what made the night poor was the strange lady who owned the place, she kept walking past our table(on a very nice deck) to go and smoke just outside the entrance. The wind was blowing in our direction so the smell was very strong. I also got the impression that her staff did not enjoy her being there as they acted very tense and, well strange whenever she was around. We had a salad that was called a 'saturna' salad but tasted like a costco boxed salad, very bland with old lettuce. All in all I think the evening may have been more pleasant had they invested in higher quality foods and had the strange lady not been around. The Cafè on saturna was much better in terms of both cost, food, and atmosphere. I was there early in the year and maybe the quality improved but I won't be going back.

The word is quaint. Yes, it's a cliche, but it's accurate. The staff at the front desk is super…read morehelpful, I believe we were helped by someone named Pluto, who was very patient with us . . . We had two little kids that were obsessed with the candy bowls, and my wife's elderly (we are of Indian origin) parents who . . . let's just say, they had a lot of interesting questions. The rooms were really nice...very clean and spacious. This place accommodates dogs. Let me rephrase, they welcome dogs. They had a cot for each of our dogs to sleep in, treats, poop bags, and a coupon for the neighborhood pet shop. I think it says a lot about a place when they welcome dogs with such open arms. Outlook Inn is also situated near the downtown area and is walking distance from some nice shops and restaurants. This doesn't count towards this rating but Orcas island was beautiful. I highly recommend you visit and stay at Outlook Inn, especially if you have a dog.

It was an easy check in, friendly staff. The bay view suits are a pretty good size and the bed was comfy! The little kitchenette was handy to have, and was stocked with the basics. Great views and so close to everything. There are many stores and restaurants close by that are easy to walk to. The only little complaint we had was that the shower water could've been hotter. But other than that, it was an amazing stay! We will definitely be coming back to stay here!!

Oh, man. This is a tough review to write. First off, there are so many things I really like about…read morethis hotel. The location is great - close to everything in Friday Harbor but not on a street with as much traffic as some others. The customer service is great - just send them a text and you get a response in seconds. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room interior was good - everything looked clean with plenty of toiletries, cozy robes, and a heated bathroom floor. The bathroom in general was dated. We had a non operational jetted tub that had been converted into a duel faucet rain shower. It was rather weird, but it worked. I also really liked the keyless entry, so no worries about losing your key! Now, my one negative. Our room, and I'm assuming all rooms on this side of the building, abut a loading dock and parking lot for an adjacent grocery store. Every morning at 5am, a semi truck, fork lift, and workers unload the truck. In addition to back up safety alarms, truck engines idling, and workers talking, you also hear the constant rumbling of goods being unloaded. This goes on for HOURS.....starting at 5am. The hotel gives you ear plugs and notes that there is no noise ordinance on the island and notes that neighbors can be noisy and the hotel can't do anything about that. I get it...you can't control noisy patrons or neighbors, but the description given doesn't really convey what is actually going on with this side of the building. Constant, very loud noise and alarms for over two hours starting at 5am. All that said, I would stay here again, but I would make sure any room I book has views of the harbor, and not the back side of the hotel.

It has steps, indoors and out (I found the outdoor steps easier on my bad hip) and it's just a lovely place - nicely decorated and SO clean. Our room was Fidalgo, we had a big soaker tub and kitchen area, I loved having two places to watch tv since sometimes one of you can sleep and the other is enjoying vacation insomnia time. ;) Out back, a walk through a parking lot takes you to King's Market which had everything. We did not find the hotel loud, but they offer earplugs just in case. The mattress was great, seriously- firn enough but with a soft topper or something, we both slept so well.
