Throughout the day of their grand opening celebration they had a craft event, hot chocolate bar, and wine tasting. We stopped by for the wine tasting and also entered a raffle. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They had some really cool balloon displays throughout the store and have plans for more in-store options and ways to help you have them at your own party. There is free public parking right near the museum and when you walk in, you walk immediately into the gift shop, with not only mustard paraphrenalia, but also Wisconsin-themed and other gifts. The cashier by the front door greets you heartily. At the back of the gift shop, there is a mustard tasting bar. A number of different flavored mustards are available with pretzel sticks for tasting. A large number of jars that are available for tasting are at the bar and you can taste as many as you like. The mustards are available for purchase, and they have recipe cards for ideas on ways to eat the flavored mustards. The musuem istelf is downstaris, and if there is a mustard product, it is downstairs, with sizes and flavors of all kinds and from all over U.S., Canada, and the world. There are bottles and bottles and containers of mustard, a large mustard bottle plushy, a film about how mustard is made, and even a mustard vending machine. I learned, because of the museum, that the largest producer of mustard is Canada. The mustard museum is a fun, low-stress, low-key stop if you're in the area. It's free, fun, easy to access, educational, and a nice value for the visit.

They also have a great selection of gifts, featuring a number of local artists and other small businesses. The upstairs has comfy seating to stay for a while, a nice selection of games and art, and a neat playspace for kids. We were also delighted by their chicken run - you can peek into their tastefully appointed space through a window in the back room. This is definitely a keeper on our rambles up toward Madison. My first visit to Bergamot yesterday was AMAZING! I loved…read morethe interior of the space. Nothing over the top, just a warm and inviting atmosphere. I thought it was a little strange having to take off my shoes upon entry (spa sandals were provided). Had I had nicer shoes on, I wouldn't have wanted to just leave them by the front door for anyone to take if they felt so inclined. I learned later (after my massage) that there are lockers in the bathroom. I assume I could have locked my shoes up if I had wanted, but that wasn't offered to me. I was promptly greeted by my massage therapist (Ty) after I filled out some new client paperwork. She showed me to the treatment room, and it was truly the nicest one I had ever been in. I LOVED the up lighting in the room. It added a calming glow to an otherwise dark room. Not only did my therapist read my chart, but she sat down and discussed my wants/needs for my 75 minute session. You don't get that kind of personal interaction at larger day spas. Some of those spas are more like a "one size fits all" quantity over quality places. That is not the case here. My massage was WONDERFUL. It was the right amount of therapeutic and relaxing, and the use of warm towels was the cherry on top. Ty addressed my areas of concern and took the time after my massage to tell me her findings. I have definitely found my new place to go to for massage. I see no reason to go anywhere else now unless I'm out of town. I wish I would have stopped in sooner! The massage therapist was kind and welcoming but I noticed that she had on an earbuds-type headset that she wore around the back of her neck. OK, maybe she listens to something that gets her into her groove but several times during the massage she seemed to drift her focus away from me: only one hand on my body that seemed to just stop in mid stroke or repeated massaging the same area over and over and over again, each time getting deeper than the medium touch we had discussed. I even could hear another sound in the room other than the soothing music that was playing. Was that coming from her earpieces? She also spent so much time on my back side that by the time she asked me to flip over the massage was almost done. She just seemed distracted. I will go back but to my usual therapist who has always kept me 100% the focus of her attention.

I always love going to half price books. Their business model of buying used books means that the…read morethings they have in stock can change from week to week, so I always have an excuse to stop by! They have both hardback and softback books, used and new, and all are in at least good condition, although most are in creat condition. A couple are well loved, but they tend to be older softback books, and they mark their price down accordingly, which is nice if you're looking for a deal. They have a small selection of vinyls, which isn't my thing, but I always see a couple people browsing the selection. They also carry boardgames and puzzles, so you can find fun stuff for game night if you're interested! My favorite thing about this store, and the reason I keep coming back, is that they have a selection of foreign language books! Not just how to learn the language, but content in the original language! It's perfect for putting your language learning work to practice! It's not the biggest section, but because of the rotating selection, you get a couple of gems every now and again! Oh, and they offer discounts to teachers too, which is pretty cool :)

Then they have great signage with all sections well marked. I was there looking at childrens books and the section was super cute. They had nice displays and even some stuffed animals. They have tons and tons of books, it's amazing and a little overwhelming. I was surprised some of the prices weren't better. One book I picked up was the same price online as it was at half priced but then other books were very discounted. Overall a good experience.
