That's how I feel about What Is Movement. I keep putting off writing this. Because I want to keep it my secret place. But... Really, everyone should check this place out. What Is Movement is a gym/studio owned by Jayme and Jamie, a husband and wife team, who have created this amazing, supportive community. "Boy Jamie" (yes, that's how they refer to each other!) teaches kettle bell, ViPR (google it, seriously, it's so cool), and metabolic resistance training classes, in addition to personal training. "Girl Jayme" teaches yoga, and does private yoga and body work sessions, as well as running a Monday night "stitch and bitch" group. And there are more members of the team: Jessie teaches Forrest yoga on Thursday nights; Gianna teaches yoga three times a week; and they have just added a chiropractor and massage therapist to their growing group of health gurus. I found What Is Movement through Jessie; Jessie is an amazing Forrest yoga teacher. I would drive nearly anywhere for one of her classes. So, I started making my way to Warwick once a week for her class. I found myself enchanted by the atmosphere at What Is Movement, and asked Jessie about the other classes. The ViPR classes especially intrigued me, but I had a pretty significant hand injury, and wasn't sure it would be something I could do. Jessie suggested I talk to Jayme before trying out a class. Jayme knows his... Stuff. Since I first talked to him, I've tried all of his classes, and have been consistently impressed with his ability as an instructor in every modality. He watches each student, remembers injuries and provides modifications, and plans for each person to be successful in every single class. I leave his classes sweaty and sore, but stronger and more confident each time. Jayme's enthusiasm is contagious! And you'll get to know how intense the class will be by what music is blasting when you walk in (Metallica? It's gonna be as upper intense class). Jamie is also a skilled instructor, who uses her knowledge of yoga and anatomy to make each class beneficial for each student. Her bodywork sessions leave you feeling more free, able to breathe deeper. She brings a calm, healing warmth to both her classes and individual sessions. So that's my secret. A wonderful place, supportive community, run by knowledgable and caring people. You really should try it out.

He's also friendly and funny yet always keeps me on my game. He knows what he's doing and he's constantly paying attention to proper form and to how to up the ante on my strength goals. I've also started getting deep tissue massages with Jay Moran for a long-term shoulder issue that was impeding my strength training. Again, Jay is professional and kind and has helped me gain increased mobility in just a few weeks. I don't know the other trainers as well, but the ones I've seen around the gym are always nice and seem to love what they do. Body Soul is the BOMB!

Eddie Fleury has been my Body Soul personal trainer since February, and it helps to have someone in my corner. I wasn't sure I'd like having a personal trainer. It seemed like a luxury, and I often wondered if I could afford it, if I was worth it, or if I'd see any progress. Today I can say without a doubt that this is the best gift I could have given to myself. I have developed an incredible rapport and trust with Eddie. We work as a team. Each session, Eddie gently adds something new to increase the duration or intensity. So gradually I am building upon what I did the week before. He calls them "progressions." The empirical data show that I have lost weight, inches and body fat; I have gained strength, endurance and flexibility. What is critical, however, is that I have gained more confidence, which cannot be measured with scales and charts. My skin is glowing, my clothes fit better, I am standing taller and I am setting a good example for my family. I am at peace with my body, my age, my abilities, my strengths and my life. She is a career dancer, so it's not like other places where a fitness instructor just takes a few certification classes. Because of her experience, she is great at explaining how to move and hold your body and how to correct your form. With a maximum class size of 5 - 6, you will have as close to personal training as you can get. The space itself is also top notch. The whole gym has a luxe feel and the studio is small but airy and bright. Between the nice facilities and unique classes, they offer a lot that you won't find anywhere else.

I can tell this gym is focused on personal training and from the reviews looks like 5 stars there as well. But back to the part-time membership - worth every penny. Because they are a personal training gym, we usually always had the place to ourselves which I ended up really, really liking. When I was in fantastic shape, going to the regular gym was nothing, but when you've got some extra pounds to shed, having a nearly private space was amazing. I was concerned that because it was a personal training gym a trainer would eventually come up and try to sell me on some sessions, but that didn't happen. Unlike larger gyms I've been to! Also because they are personal training, you have just about every piece of free-weight/aerobic equipment that you could want, along with several machines - again at your disposal, no worrying about waiting for them. They also offer classes that look fun. Finally you CANNOT, I repeat cannot beat the atmosphere here. It is really cool inside, extremely clean, set-up well (2 floors), modern and the staff/owners are so friendly and pretty much mind their clients and not your presence. A friend recommended Carl Taglienetti and I started training with him. The gym in contrast is not glitzy but his personalized care is what has made the difference in my life. Today 12 years later I must admit Carl has changed my life. I'm in great shape , I eat well visit him 2-3 times a week he has strengthened my body and mind that it allowed me to go back to my childhood sport , ice hockey goaltending . I play once a week with one practice session a week as well. At 44 I find myself playing with kids that are half my age! I am a complete novice, so it was so fun to learn the proper punching and kicking techniques from the instructors. They were very patient when I didn't get things the first time. I was a bit intimidated at first and scared that I wouldn't be able to make it through a class without fainting, but the level of challenge was just right! The circuit training especially was a great workout - I was sweating a lot! But it was also fun because of the variety of the different exercises at each station as we rotated through. What made the classes especially fun and empowering is that both times I went, it was all women. It was so inspiring!!

You can work out in a group or on an individual bases. Music is a major factor for me and she also fullfills my need of work out and jam to tunes. I also send my 15 year old and his buddy and it is great to and teach them how to work out properly and effectively. Her rates are unreal.
