It is good, but I usually go with hungry Howies. They also need to promote their crazy bread

Walking in feels like the universe hit pause somewhere in the best way. Same feel, same energy, same kind of place you can count on without thinking twice. It's like being teleported back to exactly where you're supposed to be. And the food? Exactly what it should be. No pretending to be healthy, no overthinking it. Just straight, unapologetic comfort. I go there for one thing every time: the hot beef sandwich. Massive. Smothered in gravy... and I mean gravy everywhere. The kind where you don't just eat it, you commit to it. Fries? Those are getting dipped in gravy too, no question. It's excessive in the best possible way. The portions are out of control. You're not finishing it. You're not even pretending to. You're leaving with enough leftovers for the next couple of days and you're not mad about it. It's the kind of meal that feels a little sinful, but worth every second. You'll deal with forgiveness later. Hometown, no-frills, real-deal comfort food that hasn't lost its identity over time. And honestly, that's rare.

I liked them when they were in the area, but for the most part, have closed many years ago. Never had a bad meal with them, just didn't frequent them often enough, I guess. LOL. Anyway, I went to Dow Gardens in Midland on July 4th, so getting something to eat on the way home was very limited. Most places were closed and I really didn't want fast food. I stopped at Birch Run since on the way up I noticed that it was partially open, and after struggling to find a sit down place to eat at, I got lucky here. Walking in, the place wasn't busy and I was seated right away. I reviewed the menu and couldn't remember what I'd gotten before, but even if I did, I'm sure they've changed the menu so I went with Dave's cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and an Arnold Palmer. The food here was really good albite slightly expensive. I was willing to spend a few more dollars for a good meal, so I'm okay with that. What I like about dining here is they truly make their own stuff. If I remember correctly, they also make their own pop, and dipping sauces, leaving Coke and Pepsi in the dust. My server was great, and my food was good, so I'd gladly come back here again when in the area. I know Birch Run isn't what it used to be, but I can almost always count on them having something to eat along with some places to shop at when I'm in the area. Plus, they're close to Frankenmuth, which is a bonus. Overall, better then some lunches I've had in the area, and open on a holiday! YAY!

We started with the Santa Fe nachos and fried pickle chips. The nachos were already soggy when they arrived, and the pickles were cut far too thick and not crispy at all. The portion of sour cream was also too small for the size of the nachos. We didn't finish either appetizer. For my entrée, I ordered the Train Wreck Burger with onion rings. The name ended up being fitting, but not in a good way. The burger was bland, and the fried egg that was supposed to be part of it was barely noticeable. I only ate about half. My son's hot honey chicken sandwich was just average and overpriced, and the fries that came with it were clearly overcooked and not fresh. They were taken off the bill, which was appreciated, but didn't change the overall experience. The restaurant itself was clean, and there are plenty of seating options including booths, high tops, and a bar. The service was polite, but overall the experience felt very underwhelming. For the prices they charge, the food quality simply isn't there. We left disappointed and won't be returning.

He dropped cookie crumbles on the cheese, picked it off, placed my sub into the oven and with his still gloved hands started sweeping the floor. He then took those same gloved hands that had just touched all over everything and took my sub out of the oven and was prepared to use those same filthy gloved hands to reach into the different food toppings to make my sandwich. I asked him if he would change his gloves before he touched my food again. You would have thought I had just yelled at him with the way he acted. He became rude and after changing his gloves he made sure to slop each topping onto the sub with a scowl on his face. I watched him carefully as he wrapped it even while I was paying with another employee. I was honestly worried that he would do something to my sandwich while I was not looking. I will not go back there.

My salad bowl arrived looking okay. Until I turned the plate and it was noticed my bowl was dirty. Literally had previous food sauce on the side of the bowl. Prior to noticing that, I had a few bites and immediately realized I was ill. No charge for my meal. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich was okay, but over cooked chicken. Hard to eat. Fries were seasoned well. Overall, okay for a quick bite while you're shopping but not if allergens are an issue. Happy dining.

We ordered a few orders of each between the three of us. Favorites were the riblets and the honey barbecue boneless wings. Fries were great but too plentiful. The shrimp's breading could have used more flavor, even just black pepper or something. There wasn't much meat on the riblets but it didn't matter as you could reorder. Food came out quickly and service was friendly and quick. For some reason the coleslaw is not unlimited which was a bit odd as I would have liked more than the tiny cup that they gave. Restaurant was also very cold inside. I had to wear my jacket the entire time I was in there. However it was clean and well kept. Overall I'd return as I thought it was a good deal for all you can eat.
