Overall, I thought the pizzas were pretty good, but not outstanding. The crust, toppings, and cheese were all well done. The crust is medium thickness, similar to Domino's pan-style pizza, if you're familiar with it. With so many great pizza options in town, nothing really stood out enough to make me eager to come back. That said, it's still worth trying for yourself--it may be exactly the style of pizza you're looking for.

This place had been recommended to me so I figured I'd try it. I got 1 bacon pizza, 1 Pepperoni, and a order of Buffalo wings. I'm not going to sugarcoat this. This pizza was mid at best it was just okay. Reminded me of generic pizza, like if you told me it was frozen pizza I'd believe you. It was like when Little Ceasars use to be bad because we all know they have gotten a lot better over the years. The pizza was really doughy. Like right on the verge of being raw dough. They put the toppings under the cheese so it was like I only had cheese pizza on one of them. It was a floppy mess and the sauce overpowered everything. Couldn't taste the Pepperoni or bacon and the cheese was a bit bland. 6/10 The wings were pretty good even though they ignored how I wanted them cooked. I wanted them extra well done like the option gave me on the app. We did not get that. They were a bit soggy but I have to admit they were still pretty good. Whatever Buffalo sauce they use absolutely said it. 7/10 All in all this place was decent but this would be low on my list of ever spending my money here again. I have been trying to try this place for awhile and when I finally did it was a huge let down.

They have a bar and it has an amazing variety. No bar stools to sit by the bar because it's more their marketplace for the pizzeria bc they sell wines by the bottles and other goods and groceries! They have a water fountain which is so good because trails are nearby. The staff here were incredibly attentive and they were quick! Plenty of seating outdoors and indoors. They have large tables so if you have a party of more than 5 you can easily seat them here. It exceptional service! The pizza is so good and I definitely wanna try more on the menu! Will be coming back!

We had a pretty negative experience with the food itself at our recent visit to Vecchia…read more To give credit where it's due, if you know Neapolitan-style pizza, they get the crust right. It's exactly what it's supposed to be: soft, chewy, and pliable with wood-fired leopard spotting on the edges. It is definitely not an American thin-and-crispy style, so don't expect a crunch. However, the kitchen was INCREDIBLY STINGY with the execution. I ordered a Margherita pizza, and it arrived with maybe three tiny, shriveled leaves of basil for the entire pie. Look at the picture....For a classic pizza that relies so heavily on fresh aromatics, having it virtually absent was a letdown. We also tried the Spinach & Artichoke Dip, which was a total miss. When it arrived at the table, it wasn't bubbling at all and already looked dry. There weren't much spinach or artichoke inside; instead, it was mostly a mixture cream cheese and sour cream. To make matters worse, while the top cheese was browned, there were spots inside that were downright cold. It was clearly pre-made, refrigerated, and rushed out before being heated through. Because it lacked actual vegetables and proper heating, the flavor profile was just unpleasantly sour and tangy. The bones of a great pizzeria are here, but the lack of consistency, stingy toppings, and poorly prepped appetizers really hurt the meal.

We arrived a little early before the dinner crowd, so it was nice and quiet inside. As soon as we walked in, Gwen greeted us with a warm, friendly hello and invited us to sit wherever we'd like. She came right over to our table, welcomed us again, and got our drink order. When she asked about appetizers, we decided to try the bruschetta. Our drinks and appetizer came out quickly, and I absolutely LOVED the bruschetta. Even my son enjoyed it, which says a lot considering he's not the biggest fan of tomatoes... oops My son ordered the lasagna, and I was pleasantly surprised that the pasta dishes came with a salad, especially at that price point. The Caesar salads were simple, with Ken's dressing on the side, but they were fresh, and that goes a long way for me. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and Gwen provided consistently friendly, attentive service the entire time. The only downside for me was the dessert selection. They only offer one option, which surprised me for an Italian restaurant. I did try the cinnamon knots to go, and they were good, but I would've loved a few more choices. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'll definitely be back.

Side fact, Catholics abstain from meat with the exception of fish and seafood on Fridays during Lent. The more you know!! For this week's restaurant option, I chose to go to Johnny Brusco's for dinner this past Friday. This place is located in Hoover, which was inspired by New York style pizzas. I personally enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant. It was one of those places with a lot of things hung up on the wall, and as someone who likes to look around, it was very pleasing to the eyes. It wasn't too crowded when we went so service went by quick. The staff were lovely and gave great recommendations that aren't biased (as far as I know). Since I couldn't eat meat, my boyfriend and I split a 12" pizza that was half veggie deluxe with a cauliflower crust and half meat deluxe. I usually stay away from cauliflower crust pizzas because they tend to be chalky and lack flavor, but this one was so so good. It was very flavorful and you can tell that they used real, fresh ingredients. Our food also didn't take long to come out but was hot and fresh when it did. My half of the pizza is gluten-free and vegetarian, however, they are a flour-rich environment and it may not be ideal for individuals with extreme gluten intolerance, so I would keep that in mind. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you want a taste of New York or if you're just a pizza lover.

Wooden City is located off Morris Avenue in a shared row of older buildings. There's a private parking lot behind the building, and you can have your parking ticket validated at the restaurant. The location and vibe on Morris Avenue are really neat and uniquely Birmingham. It's a great addition to the city's dining scene. Our party of four started with drinks and shared three appetizers: the Bread and Butter, Heirloom Tomatoes, and Steak Tartare. My favorite was the Bread and Butter. It's house-made focaccia served with a sun-dried tomato spread and an oil dipping sauce. The bread was amazing. For my entrée, I ordered the Peel-and-Eat Shrimp from the appetizer menu. It was fabulous--a generous portion of large shrimp that were perfectly seasoned and grilled. For dessert, we shared the Chocolate Mousse and Blueberry/Blackberry Crisp. The crisp was my favorite. It was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream--an excellent way to finish the meal. While Wooden City doesn't have a large menu, everything we tried was very well done. I definitely recommend giving it a try, but don't be in a hurry. The service was a little slow during our visit.

We snagged some seats at the bar and had some drinks and shortly after that, our table was ready. And they were able to keep everything on one check, which was nice. No need to settle the tab and start a new one at the table. And the old fashioned I had was delicious. For food, we started with the Hungarian Hot Stuffed Peppers. These were pretty good and the heat gradually snuck up on you as you ate them. I don't know if it was because the heat was more intense as you worked your way towards the stem or just a gradual burn. Either way, these were good and worth the heartburn later. The thick focaccia helped with the burn a little. Speaking of heartburn, the pepperoni pizza may have contributed a bit to that too, but again, totally worth it. The cup-and-char pepperoni was charred nicely as were the edges and bottom! I love a nice bottom! These were easy to share between two of us. Service was amazing from the bartender to the waiter to the uber driver (who didn't really count, but nice job, man). We felt welcomed and I can see why the place was crowded on a Tuesday evening.
