I love a good Cuban sandwich - slow-cooked pork, boiled ham, cheese, thin long pickles and tangy mustard all smooshed panini-style in white bread. It's a magical combination. This version of Cuban is not this. It's an interesting sandwich but more Mexican sandwich with jalapeños and carnitas and no pickles and little mustard. (I did ask for pickles.) (and I think there was mayo in there!) The bun is also a little too chewy for a Cuban. Also had Mac and cheese which was good but nothing to blow you away. Just wish restaurants wouldn't promise a Cuban when it's not one. read more

I really like this place! It's in an industrial part of Garland and doesn't look like much from the outside. But it's really nice inside, clean and organized. I decided to check this place out for lunch as a few of my coworkers have explained to me how quick, easy, and delicious the food is. Also, it is a huge help that it is right around the corner from my office. This hole in the wall breakfast and lunch place is right along Kingsley Road nestled between an auto repair shop and hose and pipe supply store. If you blink you will miss it but once you step inside the store you will be greeted with super friendly staff and a wide variety of people from brick layers, lawyers, bankers, mechanics, and city workers. The food has a small variety primarily dedicated to soups, salads, and hot sandwiches. The breakfast menu has smoothies, omelets, and parfaits. The chalkboard menu sits atop the bar/ordering station and includes a direct view into the kitchen so you can watch your food being created, cooked, and delivered to your table. Now before I begin on the food, let me explain that this simple lunch stop takes a Hispanic spin on typical hot lunch sandwiches. I decided on getting The Cuban which was raved about from my coworkers. The Cuban had a distinct twist on it that instead of normal pork and cheese, Lito's made it with their signature carnitas. Per side of the sandwich they gave you: melted provolone, mustard, mayonnaise, jalapenos, and two pieces of carnitas that were big and juicy. The sandwich was made well with other sweet onions that counteracted the spice of the jalapenos for a very sweet tasting sandwich. Throughout the whole meal, the sandwich didn't make a complete mess from being over stuffed. I opted for a side of Mac N Cheese and a citrus green tea that were completely optional. The only issue with the Mac N Cheese was that it was very runny, but with only a scoopful of it, it wasn't something to worry about because it was very good as well. I will be recommending and coming back often but I will guess soon that they will become too popular and must move to a new location because their facilties are still fairly small. read more

History

Established in 2016.

Prepared quickly, from scratch with passion. Lito’s Kitchen isn’t your average sandwich joint. Located in Garland, Texas, this New American eatery puts their own unique spin on known favorites like the Cuban, patty melt, and a Reuben that can rival with the best of them. For owner Angel Villatoro and his wife Flor, the biggest push in starting Lito’s was time and family. After working as a chef in the corporate world for many years, Villatoro wanted to be able to do what he loved and still have the ability to spend time with their daughter, Alexandra. “I wasn’t able to do that before, there were no flexible weekends,” he explains. It’s cozy here. Almost like being at your mother’s table. The open kitchen lends itself to a quaint familiarity and comfort. It’s the kind of place where regulars are remembered and everyone is appreciated.

Meet the Business Owner: Angel V.

After working as a chef in the corporate world for many years, I wanted to be able to do what I loved and still have the ability to spend time with my Family. I wanted to be away from the fine dining scene and simply create good food. My goal in creating Lito's was to make that food accessible for everyone working in this area. I realized that there was a need for a place to provide a variety menu items, from healthy sandwiches, salads and sides, to comfort foods like our Rueben and burgers. With its varied population, I thought Garland would be an excellent place to bring this dream to fruition. I always knew I wanted to start my own business. I started cooking at the age of 14, at a family owned restaurant in Addison TX. I made my way up working at different restaurants and hotels. Lito's hopes to continue to provide food for as long as possible. We believe good food should always be accessible, no matter what. We hope to continue to bring people together,1 sandwich, 1 salad n 1 smie

I used to drive around this area all the time, so I'm kicking myself for not knowing about this hidden gem until recently, thanks to DFW Yelp Elite. This small, hole-in-the-wall spot near I-635 and Garland is an unassuming treasure. The staff was incredibly welcoming and kind, making the experience even better. By lunch time, the place was packed with many people. Now, let's dive into the food: Food: - Barbacoa Melt | Birria (10/10): This sandwich was nothing short of incredible. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted, adding a delightful crunch that complemented the tender, flavorful birria. The birria was deeply rich, with smoky and savory notes that paired beautifully with the consommé. Each bite was joyous, with the consommé elevating the sandwich to another level--it's an absolute must-try. - Turkey Avocado Sandwich (7/10): This was a solid turkey and avocado sandwich, but the standout feature was the focaccia bread. The soft, herby bread added a touch of elegance to an otherwise classic combination. While it didn't blow me away, it was fresh and satisfying. - Tomato Basil Soup (9/10): This soup transported me back to a spot in Denton that used to serve my favorite tomato basil. Smooth and velvety, it had a perfect balance of tangy tomato and fragrant basil without being overpowering. It's hearty, comforting, and easily one of the best versions I've had in years. - Mac & Cheese (5/10): The mac and cheese was decent but didn't stand out. It wasn't bland like some store-bought versions, but it lacked the bold flavors or spices that could have made it special. A little extra seasoning or a unique twist could elevate this dish. Side note: They have this hot sauce which was amazing btw with notes of ginger, garlic, and some other things. It's very spicy FYI, so eat it cautiously. Overall: This spot is a true hidden gem! I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. With so many enticing options left to try, I'm already planning my next visit. Solid 8/10. read more

Tried out Lito's Kitchen recently and overall had a great experience with a couple of highs and one small miss. The tomato basil soup was hands down the star of the meal. Super creamy, cozy, and flavorful -- honestly the best tomato basil soup I've ever had. Perfect comfort food, especially on a cold day. The Cuban sandwich was another winner. The carnitas were savory and delicious, and the pickled veggies added just the right amount of acidity to balance out the richness. Every bite had a great mix of flavors. I also tried the jicama agua fresca, which was really refreshing. Light, crisp, and not overly sweet -- a perfect drink to go with the meal. The only letdown was the BLT. The bacon was way too crispy and hard to bite through, which made the sandwich a little tough to enjoy. One thing to note: portions are on the smaller side for the price, so keep that in mind if you're coming in with a big appetite. Overall though, the food has great flavor and some real standouts -- I'll definitely be back for that soup and Cuban! read more

I recently discovered Lito's Kitchen in Garland, Texas, thanks to a Yelp Elite event, and I'm so glad they partnered for the occasion, it gave me a chance to try a spot I might have otherwise missed. From the moment I walked in, the experience was inviting. The restaurant was impeccably clean, and I was greeted right away with friendly service. The ambiance was quaint and cozy, setting the tone for a pleasant meal. I had a tough time deciding between the steak chimichurri and the chicken club sandwich, but I ultimately chose the steak chimichurri and it did not disappoint. The bun was perfectly toasted, the steak was cooked to perfection, and the chimichurri added a great pop of flavor. My only small disappointment was that the sandwich didn't come with a pickle, which I feel would have been a nice touch. Overall, I had a great experience and would love to return to try something else from the menu, maybe even pair it with an espresso next time. Lito's Kitchen in Garland offers a great experience with its inviting open ambiance and helpful staff. I tried the Cuban Sandwich, Pineapple Kale Smoothie, and a Snickerdoodle cookie. The sandwich was delicious, and the smoothie was refreshing definitely worth trying. However, I wasn't a fan of the cookie's texture; I prefer my cookies chewy and soft, which this one wasn't. Despite that, I'll definitely return to try more from their menu whenever in the area. read more

They cut me a piece of the chocolate pecan pie and it was so small and it's $5.49 and it was burnt so it was very hard to cut with a fork and I couldn't even eat all of it. It was too tough. I shared a photo. The pecans even tasted raw and not roasted. No flavor other than chocolate and burnt syrup taste. This may be my last meal here. :(

I got the gyro spicy wrap and feta fries and went to mouth heaven. I could easily split the wrap and regular order of fries with someone and both of us would be full and not broke. Today was definitely not up to scratch for this location. ******************* The rice was flavorless as was the Gyro meat. It was not good. Very little flavor and pretty much reminded me of cardboard. I ordered Gyro Rice Bowl - gyro meat served over basmati rice, with a side salad of onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers, all topped with Ziki Sauce. Very little GYRO meet and as previously mentioned, the only flavor that I really got was salt. It was a salt bomb. I kept chewing on something crunchy like dirt maybe from lettuce. It was not washed well. I don't know, but it was gritty and this is not normal. I have had this exact same order many times from this location and have loved it every time. I don't know if they're under new management or just they need better attention to the product but today was not a good day. I left feeling that I had not received the product that I came for and overpaid for the product that I got. Very dissatisfied. Sad, I was looking forward to this for my dinner. I won't be stopping here again for a long time.

My sister had the chicken and waffles. She said that it was fantastic. Didn't try everything else. My brother-in-law had a dish; it was like chicken, potatoes, and eggs. I don't remember the name, and I had the margarita. They do have brunch drinks too, but the frozen margarita is just a mix. It's not that great.
