Some day, a Logan Square hipster whose nose for craft beer is as a bloodhound's for deer will cross…read morethe tracks and realize that they have Revolution Anti-Hero and Gold Cross on tap here. If they bring volume geometry skills with them, they might be disappointed to realize that the consistently short pours here are much closer to 12 oz. (i.e. bottle/can size) than the full pint typical of draughts east of the tracks. Might as well settle for bottles and cans. But, a better reason to come here is because it's the kind of solid, friendly neighborhood bar which is becoming increasingly scarce to the east and it's not at all seedy like some spots on the western fringe of Logan Square that you might walk past to get here. Recently rehabbed from its prior incarnation as Trier's Lads, this is easily the best-kept bar within at least a mile west past Weegee's on Armitage. With numerous TVs there's not a bad seat in the house for watching a game (or horses at off-peak hours). Though Hermosa is a predominantly Latino neighborhood, English is the dominant language amongst the white & blue collar mix here, and this is your place to go if your Spanish isn't ready for La Posada across the street. So that's what they do here, they provide a social setting, they show sports on the television, and they serve beer. Friends for the friendless, drunkenness to the sober. If you happen to need something more, you can snack on the tasty plantain chips from La Casa Del Jibaro, stare at the disco ball, or reach into the box of free condoms provided courtesy of the Chicago Community Condom Project.

How haven't I reviewed Uncle Mike's yet? OK, so I live around the corner and may be biased as to…read morethis bar's excellence, but I don't think so. Uncle Mike's is a place that I didn't really pay much attention to when I moved into the neighborhood because I didn't really notice it. This place kind of gets lost in a sea of taquerias and cell phone stores on Armitage. I first came here for a Michigan basketball game in 2017. On a Sunday afternoon, the place was practically empty but all the TVs were available for whatever we wanted to watch. Steve, the owner, doesn't mind if you bring in outside food to eat (since they don't serve food) so we went across the street to our favorite burrito place and brought food back for the game. Drinks were cheap and everyone was really friendly. The owner, Steve, talked to us a few times and invited us back since he knew we lived close by. Every time I've come in since Steve recognizes me and stops and chats with me, which I appreciate. I love Uncle Mike's as a local Hermosa bar and will keep coming here as long as I'm in the neighborhood.

I have gotten bourbon here, they do not have Dickle if you're looking, but they have a nice selection. For beer they have a lot of local options on draft. The inside of the bar is very red, and there are always dogs sitting at the bar which is cute. Definitely recommend if you are in the neighborhood.

Made us feel uncomfortable, so we left. Fast forward to a couple nights ago . We were in the area and gave it another chance. Couldn't help to notice that all hip hop, rap, Latin music are completely blocked off. Politely asked the bartender what was up with that? He seemed very uncomfortable with my question and gave us a very sarcastic response. "Well, I guess that's a racist juke box." We immediately felt the bad energy. We proceed to finish our beers and play a jazz song by a black female singer. Immediately the bartender and some older biker looking dudes next to us start talking smack about the song. They asked if we put the song on? We said yes, and tell us to read the room. So I respond in a very sarcastic tone. "oh, you want us to read the room, would you like us to play some Toby Keith or Kid rock for you?" They smirked and had no response. I strongly believe the place is owned and operated by white supremacist maga brothren's. I would strongly encourage people In the neighborhood to stop supporting this business.

Felt a bit too hasty to come to that conclusion, considering we just arrived. We agreed to do a walk in a straight line test or whatever. Bartender ultimately apologized, but after all the arguments it was a damper on the night as you can imagine. Left feeling really upset especially since it was my friend's birthday.

It wasn't super crowded, but there was a nice little crowd there to experience the live music. Their cocktail menu is pretty decent. I have a $5 Party Shot. Today, it was the PB&J shot with whiskey, strawberry, rhubarb, and lemon. For my cocktails, I had the Millionaire (crown royal) and the Stolen Kisses (rye whikey). The Millionaire was sweet and tart. You usually never think of Crown as being refreshing, but this was. Stolen Kisses was different - think Old Fashioned, but with umami. The menu describes it as "herbaceous," and that's pretty accurate. If I had to order again, I would stick with the Millionaire. Today's live music was provided by Phnx, and they were really good - very talented. Don't expect table service - you have to order at the bar. Since it wasn't terribly crowded, having 1 bartender was fine. Hopefully they have more or busier nights. #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood #YelpEliteSquad
