I realized my short review doesn't even cover what this law firm did for me. Depending on your situation you may be able to retain Liss Law if you choose to file bankruptcy for a flat fee. I worked with one of their lawyers who did an outstanding job. Liss Law walked me through the entire process and ensured I completed all my required seminars to comply with Bankruptcy rules and guidelines. They filed all the paperwork for me which was very helpful because the process itself looks very overwhelming. During the bankruptcy proceedings I had a debtor who challenged the bankruptcy proceedings that their debt was non-dis-chargeable under bankruptcy law. It took over 2 years of back and forth with the debtors lawyer but in the end they caved and their entire settlement was discharged. Liss Law goes above and beyond to help you throughout the bankruptcy process and their dedication to knowing the laws, as they change, and their determination to get you out of debt is stellar and nothing less than what you would expect from a reputable law firm. We did everything over email (which I prefer because it creates a searchable trail), and he was extremely responsive to any question I sent. Absolutely horrible attorney. I agree with the other negative reviewers -Avi doesn't return calls or want to talk to you. If I could give less than 1 star I would. He's unethical and does not protect you. He's pompous, arrogant, and dismissive. I had an issue at closing and he should have alerted me and discussed before signing on my behave. Instead he went forward with a closing without my consent. I did not need to close and he could have delayed the closing which would have allowed me to get my property out of my home. Instead I lost my property. He tried to say my property wasn't part of the P&S-which the buyer made it part of it- not me . Again he doesn't protect you! He gave me a whole lot of stress and he's argumentative. Forget it if you use him with someone else-he takes sides. I wouldn't recommend working with this firm - they are incredibly difficult to get in touch with, condescending, and unprofessional. I hired Avi after a real estate agent referred him to me, hoping that he would manage a contractual agreement that would separate me from my home that I owned with a previous partner. During the process he made numerous contractual mistakes that it took him weeks to fix, which I had to chase him down to make because he wouldn't respond to the lawyer that my previous partner hired. In our email exchange he told me that he was on vacation and wouldn't be doing anything until he returned. Once he finally sent my ex's lawyer the final contract, Avi told him that he was no longer representing me, information that he never shared with me! Please don't give your money to this firm - they are flighty, unresponsive, lack attention to detail, and have very poor customer service. read more

From what I have seen with my experience with this attorney, I cannot recommend him. I had to have him correct numerous errors he made in our documents and it seemed he had not really adapted them to our specific case. It was more like he opened a drawer and produced a standard document. Additionally he failed to communicate progress and he was very hard to reach. Unfortunately in the state of MA it seems to be the standard (after dealing with 4 other attorneys in MA), so you are probably no worse off nor no better off here than going elsewhere. Wisest is to stay away from incurring any 'legal needs' in this state. read more

Avoid Liss Law if possible-- you will do far, far better paying more money for a more competent law firm. I used them for a real estate closing where we had several problems emerge with the property after closing; problems the seller had agreed to fix or pay for repairs. When we asked Liss Law to enforce those provisions, Avi Liss was unresponsive and disinterested. Ultimately we had to hire another attorney. Lesson here: Avi Liss is great, cheap, and fast if you have a real estate transaction with no bumps or headaches along the way. If you believe you have such a deal, you shouldn't be buying real estate. Pay twice as much for a better lawyer, will be worth every penny. read more

As a first-time and also international buyer, I am very fortunate to have Avi as my attorney. He is very professional, knowledgeable, promptly responsive, patient and clear. He also has good connections with other businesses as well and he would always reach out for help if the services I requested is beyond his professional practice. For example, I wanted to have a mortgage loan to buy my home. I contacted many many institutional lenders and I was told by all of them that I couldn't be provided with loan because I am not a US-person, I don't have US-sourced income and I don't even have US social security number. However, when I asked Avi if I could get home loan, he immediately recommended one mortgage company which wanted to lend money to finance my home purchase. Finally I closed the sales and purchase of my home by paying 35% down payment. I am very grateful for Avi in this matter. Also, I started to worry about the taxation issues of this investment property. Avi again recommended a CPA to help me with my taxation. I had a disappointing experience working with Avi Liss, who was rude and unprofessional. I contacted him with a simple, straightforward project and a tight deadline. He said he could do it, but then the work he did was sloppy and revealed that he didn't understand the issues and hadn't bothered to read what I had sent him, and the project dragged far behind schedule. I had to call and remind him to work on it, and when he did produce drafts of part of the work, what he wrote didn't make sense and wasn't what I'd asked for. I had to ask him multiple times for an estimate of how much this was going to cost, at which point he demanded immediate payment for the unfinished work that I wasn't happy with, at a rate we'd never agreed to, and refused to provide an invoice. I am a first time homebuyer and was very nervous with the overall overwhelming process and I cannot believe my good fortune to have the opportunity to have Peggy as my real estate attorney. Peggy was available via phone, text and email and she always responded within an hour whenever I reached out with a question or concern. She was diligent and explained everything to me both in legal terms and "real-talk" for those who are not familiar with legal language. DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY!!!!! If I could give less than 1 star I would. I had just one phone call with Avi, as he said he prefers to email, which is code for, 'it's easier to blow you off.' There was a minor issue at closing of some boxes left in basement, which I cleared out the day of closing. He then told me I cleared the wrong area, after me taking EVERYTHING I was responsible for, and he having specifically asked for this area to be cleared out. He refused to call the other person in the condo Assoc, to ask them to move their belongings, which he claimed were in 'deeded space' belonging to my condo. I had already moved to another state, so couldn't go there myself, and they were not my belongings anyway!!!! He was rude, arrogant, lazy & dismissive. I had to deal with buyers attorney myself to resolve the matter in less than an hour. Why couldn't he do this so the sale could close? As I said, lazy, rude, arrogant & dismissive. As I did his job, which I paid him to do, I said I wanted him to refund his fee, which he said he would, & then reneged 2 days later. He did not prepare the HUD for me to review before closing, and it took several days after closing for me to receive it. Simply put, he is a sloppy attorney who skims documents rather than reads them and then spends his time trying to put band aids on new problems he causes his clients. I closed on my refinance with this Liss Law last year and cannot recommend working with them. Seemed extremely disorganized overall with several errors in documents (incorrect property address!). The day of closing, I waited for 15-20 min in their small conference room and then had someone come and ask me when my husband would be arriving for us to get started. My husband's name was not on the mortgage or deed and there was no plan for him to attend. I felt like I was in the 1950s where someone would just assume that a woman arriving alone for a closing would surely be waiting for their husband to arrive. Crazy. During the closing they charged me escrow for taxes that I had already paid - when I asked Avi about this, he said this was necessary but that they would hold on to the check and refund it to me quickly once they confirmed the taxes had been paid. This of course never happened and when I followed up, they said that they just paid advance taxes with it...even though that is exactly what Avi said they would not do. Anyway...all of that was not a big deal and I would never have written this review except for the fact that last week I realized that the deed I paid them to prepare and file last year was never actually filed! I emailed them to inquire about this and was told they would get back to me asap. No word for 5 days so I sent a follow-up email today only to get a 2 sentence reply that this was not filed correctly last year "for some reason" and that it has now been filed. No apology. I would strongly recommend going elsewhere, but if you do work with this group, be prepared to be extremely diligent to avoid problems for yourself down the road. read more

I have just finished working with an attorney in the Liss Law firm on a bankruptcy from last October. I was trying to save my home from foreclosure. The experience was disappointing in the extreme. A month after I started working with him, I realized he was not performing the actions required until the last minute. Also after I complained about his failure to file required plans, he would promise to have it the next day. Usually two+ weeks later, after numerous emails from me, he would deny that the plan was necessary, and refuse to file. Not knowing the law, I was forced to accept his answers. I demanded that Avi Liss change me to another lawyer, or represent me himself. He refused, but promised to provide coverage over this lawyer's conduct. He never did so Now that the process is over, and I lost my home, I have discovered that his failure to file two important plans led to the court agreeing to the foreclosure. There isn't legally anything I can do now, because I don't believe incompetence is a legal charge, but I advise you to steer a wide path around these people. I never felt for a minute that the lawyer could care whether I kept my home or not, as long as I didn't bother him by asking him to keep me up to date, and filing plans and motions that would have been to my benefit. read more
