Full disclosure: I have known Ken and Ellie personally for a long time. However, if I'd had anything but a great experience, I'd say so or simply not review. I discovered the Vining Law Office during a recent search on yelp.com for an attorney to handle a landlord-tenant dispute. I have never needed to seek legal counsel before, so this was basically a blind search for somewhere to start. There was a nice review on the page for Vinig Law, so I decided to contact them. I filled out the "Contact Us" form on their website and waited for a reply. That evening, I received a phone call from Ken. He asked for more detail about my case and listened very patiently as I gave a very long, detailed answer (I've been "researching" laws regarding my situation for a year, so I have a lot to say about it!). When I was finished, Ken gave me a very honest and concise opinion about my case. He explained that although I may have a case against my former landlord, the amount of money in question was probably much less than I thought (I was confusing a few laws concerning security deposits with laws about last month's rent). Ken told me that it would probably not be worth pursuing my claim in housing court when considering fees associated with filing the claim and hiring an attorney. He suggested that I file a claim in small claims court because he felt I had a case and would probably receive a favorable outcome there. Ken said I was welcome to call him back if I encountered any problems or had any questions about where to proceed next. Ken was kind , informative and understanding with us throughout what turned out to be a '' tenant from hell'' story. It began softly enough with a clear cut goal - as the realtors had asked us to do- Deliver the non owner occupied 2 family vacant in order to fix it up and sell it , since we are seniors. But the tenant fought us every inch of the way - and in all likelihood, she lost her section 8 certification as she appealed multiple times. Ken was even kind to her along the way as he attempted to inform her that she had to pay her portion of the rent and that her refusal to do so had future consequences, which she ignored even after a few judges told her that also. Ken was all we could have ever dreamed of and she finally left. It was bizarre. Ken said it was one of the most complicated cases he had ever had. In the interests of full disclosure, I went to law school with Ellie and so know her and Ken personally. On the other hand, I went to law school with a LOT of folks who are no attorneys, and would not have good reviews to give of all of them! I first worked with Ellie in a professional capacity about 5 years ago, when my now-husband and I began looking to buy a condo. To say that Ellie was profession and helpful is an understatement. I literally understood nothing about the financial and legal process of buying a house. First, Ellie helped me find a buyer's broker and a mortgage broker. Second, we had a pretty long purchasing process because we placed offers on two places that ultimately did not pan out. With each offer, Ellie was on-hand and always available via phone or email to explain the process to me and to answer my questions (even when I had the same questions over and over, with each new offer). Finally, when we successfully made an offer, Ellie was there. She (rightly) never assumed that we would understand the various closing documents just because we were lawyers, and she patiently walked us through everything line by line. She was able to explain the timeline and our obligations in a way that was easy to understand. As anyone who has bought a house knows, the process can seems scary, because it seems like there is always away for things to go wrong and for you to lose a bunch of money. Ellie put those concerns to rest by just explaining everything we needed to know in detail. She was also able to make help recommendations regarding things like title insurance (another thing I would never have thought about). Additionally, and importantly, despite what was obviously hours upon hours of work, Ellie's fees were extremely reasonable. Five years later, we're thinking about selling our place and buying a new home. Though we had not started the process, last weekend we came across a home that was a perfect fit and decided to place an offer on it at the last minute. The timing was terrible, coming just a week before a two-week vacation, so we made an emergency call to Ellie. Despite it being a gorgeous spring Saturday, Ellie took a good hour to answer our questions about whether the purchase and sale would even be possible with our weird timing. On Sunday, she reviewed the offer documents for us and made some suggestions. Basically, she worked several hours on the weekend to help us.
