Caramelized perfectly with the perfect amount of cinnamon sugar, just a tad of nutmeg (if any) and copious amounts of vanilla in the custard wash. The Chef who works the 24 hour late nights shifts knows what TF he's doing! There were people coming in at all hours for To Go orders of burgers and other dishes. Sucks I'm 1,800 miles away, because this might be the best breakfast I've ever had! The only thing I would change is the chain smoking that happens next door, that infiltrates the restaurant. That's THE ONLY thing I would change. However, the food is so darn good, might be worth the stinky cigarette smoked clothes for some of these hot cakes, griddle items and the tastiest bacon you've ever had.

Hubby had the smoked Pork Chop with a baked potato (which we shared; upcharge to get it "loaded" which meant they added cheese to the butter and sour cream). Fresh hot bread and butter came with the meal. Both entrees were Yumm-oh! Our waitress was attentive and friendly and busy. I also got a glass of Moscato wine, which was tasty. We opted to have dinner at the bar. The bar tender took great care of us and we ordered a couple of seasonal specialty drinks which we thoroughly enjoyed. The City Diner is outstanding! They definitely have their locals and regular customers, but we're also welcoming to us as first timers. Our waitress was jovial and courteous, and answered all of our silly questions. My wife had a half order of biscuits and gravy. I had a double cheeseburger, which was enormous. Those patties are no joke. I would get a single next time. Thankfully, it did not come with fries or tots as that would've been entirely too much food. I could hardly finish it, and I was ravenous. We want to come back and try other things here. It will not take a long time before we return. My wife loved her biscuits and gravy, and she is from the south. The biscuits were pillowy, soft and flaky. We have found our divvy diner that we love. The City Diner opened in 1937. One taste of their food and you'll know why they've been around almost 90 years.

The first time to try the Gladstone Burger and I agree that it was good enough to make my top 2 in the northland for a thick burger- Tay's being first, but way better than LC's. Two fresh patties - you can see the grill and the cook told me that she makes the patties every morning - are grilled and a slice of Swiss and Cheddar cheese covers each patty. Add crispy strips of bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions with a grilled bun for a superior burger. My second trip I went for the tacos. It seemed that everyone was ordering them while I was there during my first trip and the menu does say they are famous. They are very good. The shells are deep fried quickly then lots of ground beef and lettuce is added, mild or hot sauce is applied and then a good sprinkling of powdered white cheese. A co-worker said that I should try the tenderloin also. A solid lunch pick for the Gladstone area.
