However, my senior year was overshadowed by a serious incident involving a staff member, which was shocking and difficult for the student body to process. Experiencing that situation firsthand made the school feel less stable and less safe than it should have, and it changed the way many of us viewed the administration and the environment. So while Mounds View has strong academics and great teachers in many areas, that experience really complicated my overall impression of the school.

When parents objected to a school memo in 2010 prohibiting celebrations, a taskforce was formed which determined that among 185 families (students, parents and teachers) only 3 parents would not allow their kids to attend Halloween, winter, and Valentine's parties. The task force data was completely disregarded by district administrators, and no parties are currently allowed. "The point of creating a taskforce was to give students and parents a voice, and we feel that our voice wasn't taken into consideration at all," said one parent who served on the taskforce. Yes, I understand the need for equity. But have we gone overboard at the expense of our children's enjoyment of school?

Memory recall was an extreme challenge for him and his ability to reason and think things through were difficult tasks. Olivia, his trainer, is simply amazing! She was able to build a wonderful rapport with my son which is not easy given his challenges due to Autism. He has had many different therapists over the past 10 years and no one has been able to reach him and teach him like Olivia has done.
