I discovered this shop off a basic google search for the area I was in at the time. I initially spoke to one of the tech reps, a gentlemen by the name of Kyle. The exchange was very professional. No arrogance or condescension, just clear comms on what my issue was and what they could do to resolve it. I vetted some other shops in the area as well. Linx 8 pricing was very reasonable in comparison. I believe a big part of that was the free diagnostic on my computer. In many other tech shops, a diagnostic, by itself, will run you upwards of $40 to $50. So that was already key indicators in terms of value add. Also, the work they do on your computer is automatically covered under warranty, so that was reassuring as well. Full disclosure: at the time of writing this, I'm still having them trouble shoot an issue on a computer they worked on for me, but it's very minor. However, the original work they did for me was solid, and the customer service was top notch (very consumer-centric), which, in my experience, is key in these sorts of things. So, for all the reasons mentioned above, I'd definitely recommend giving them a go if you're having any computer issues. My experience with Linx8 is a bit unconventional, but still instructive. I had attempted to upgrade the RAM on a Lenovo ultrabook. Despite easy RAM upgrades on other laptops, ultrabooks are especially dense and compact, and in the process of attempting the upgrade, I broke the laptop -- it wouldn't boot. Lenovo support suggested I try Best Buy, but I was not convinced, and I thought I ought to try someone local, which led me to Linx8. The fellow there worked on it for several days, and then told me the mother board was fried. I am sure he spent at least several hours of time researching and working on the laptop, but since he couldn't fix it, he charged me nothing for his time. As a result, I finally did the right thing and shipped the broken laptop to Lenovo, who repaired it (for a considerable fee). Overall a humbling experience, and a reminder of why it's so dangerous for a software engineer to carry a screw driver. I very much appreciate both the quality service as well as the sense of honor and honesty provided by Linx8. I am happy to recommend them. read more

My darling laptop which is not even up to a year's old, decided to freeze up on me last Saturday. Because I cannot live without a computer, I googled computer repair shops in my area. Linx8 was open and also offered a free diagnostic. I drove up there and spoke to Luke who was really nice and personable and suggested various issues that could be the reason, in addition to potential fixes and the costs of each. The next day, I was told it was a hard drive issue and then I gave the go-ahead to replace. One of the things that worried me was how I could get my Microsoft Word working on the laptop. Around the same time I bought my laptop last year, I also bought the software (activation code) and it was not cheap. As you can understand, I did not want to have to buy another one. Matt assisted me GREATLY in ensuring that my laptop had the software. He went to Microsoft's site and was able to bring up the products I'd bought, using my log in and download it. I'm probably not writing this as well as I should, but anyway, I just really wanted to say how impressed I was at their customer service and willingness to go the extra mile. Thank you. read more

I'm happy to add to the good reviews the folks at Linux8 have been getting. My 2011 17-inch Apple laptop was having display issues and also cutting out on me. Apple doesn't make 17-inch laptops anymore, and they won't repair them. Linux8 diagnosed the laptop and recommended a new logic board. I balked at the expense, and they said they'd try a reflow, repairing the existing board. They said if that didn't work, I wouldn't be charged. It worked, and the laptop is running like new. They cared enough to go beyond what most shops would do. I'll be back when I need further repairs on our old Macs. read more

Dropped of my dead computer because of an electrical issue (electric burning smell where the cord plugs into the computer). 7 days later, I got a call stating 'it appears to be water damage' which is not true because I know my computer has never been near water or any liquid at all. The caller went on to say they'd charge me $300.00 to clean it up but if it still didn't work, there would be no charge. Needless to say, I was at their shop within the hour to pick it up. It turns out they did not touched my computer the entire 7 days it was there. They simply called me because they had to. read more
