A small but unique Asian/Chinese grocery store. The business owner is very friendly as well. I would recommend it.

Mega is clearly far and away the best Asian market in the Bay area... having said that, I do have…read moresome complaints but will give it the 5 stars it deserves. Let's start with the good, or I should say best. The sashimi here is the best of any Asian market bar none. You could even say better than some Sushi restaurants (I won't name them). Even some of the newer Asian markets like T&T have disgusting sashimi... to the point you can taste the ice bc they hadn't fully defrosted it. The only nit I have is bruh... stop putting the frickin plastic sauce packets right on top of the fish. Why? Why would you do that? Stop it. Come on. Why in the actual F would you do that? Ok, I know this sounds more like complaints but I do really like Mega Mart to be clear. 2 other issues: #1. Dude... what're you guys doing with the panchan? When did you start adding so much sugar and sugaring the F out of the panchan. This is not how it should be. Old Korean grandmas are literally turning in their graves with this sacrilege. Maybe panchan sales are falling, but you can be damn sure I will never buy this again with the amount of sugar you guys add. Like why? Why 50% sugar... seriously, this panchan candy bar nonsense makes no sense! #2. What happened to organic natto? Like bruh. You only had 1 brand left that was organic. Sure I could go to Nijiya and have a choice of 2, but I'm disappointed you guys stopped carrying the only organic natto you had.

The store is clean and well organized and the checkout woman is so friendly! She greets everyone…read moreand is super kind. I dropped by for my usual mushroom run and decided to peruse the aisles. I was excited to see that they now have a "Vegan Vegetable Mandu" offering in the hot food section. I had to grab both options to test them out : Unlimeat Kimchi Mandoo and Unlimeat Vegetable Mandoo. Each package has 8 pieces and a packet of shoyu. After trying both, the kimchi version won me over a bit more. The other option is lighter in flavor, and I'm a fan of bold and spicy food. Adding the shoyu helps, but I could easily eat all the kimchi ones alone. I'm not sure I'd get them often, but I like having an option in the grab and go section for when I'm short on time and hungry. They also added some Pulmone vegan-friendly microwave dumplings to the frozen section, so I got those too. I noticed some plant-based bulgogi kimbap in the frozen section, but I decided to skip them because I'm iffy about the textures of frozen kimbap. I love when grocery stores have vegan-friendly options! I hope this means they'll start adding more vegan-friendly options in the grab and go hot food section. A tofu and veggie rice bowl would be nice!

It's been quite some time since I visited Hankook. I've always been impressed by their cooking…read morelineup. And as usual, their collection was extensive and comprehensive. They had the usual array of nonstick pots, which don't work very well for me. They had a small but useful section for clay pots. I thought Amazon and AliExpress had overpriced clay pots, but I was wrong. These prices were significantly higher. I can only hope these are the best of the best. Checking up on 99 Ranch, I couldn't even find clay pots in there more limited kitchen utensil section. I ran across one item where knockoffs are ubiquitous. They've completely flooded AliExpress and you have to watch it with Amazon. Hankook had the authentic item and at significantly lower price than both Amazon and Aldi express. I found a tea section to be well stocked. I also recognize some of the tea brands. 99 Ranch has gone with lower cost options, but if you buy 6 ounces of tea, are you gonna be stuck with an enormous supply. Better to go with reliable brands that I have enjoyed in the past. I loved the produce section. It was nice and fresh. It also had wider selection of produce than other supermarkets. The store itself is stunning. The the aisles are spacious. The store is meticulously clean. The shelves are fully stocked. There were only about two items which were shopped out. The snack area and the frozen foods were even more interesting. It's obvious in those two sections that there were many more Korean brands. I should've tried some, but it's hard for me to resist snacks and there was a good chance that would finish the entire bag in one go. Better to skip it entirely. The parking lot for the supermarket is spacious. I had no trouble finding a spot even though I arrived in the late afternoon when everybody has gotten off work. I live about two hours away. And I am very jealous because there is no Hankook near me.

We have purchased a wok from here, twice, and they were reasonably priced (around $35 if I recall), and we got a spare lid for a reasonable price as well. They always have inexpensive produce, lots of fresh stuff. I got a bag of bok choy for $2. I think if you are looking for Asian produce, a great place to shop. They also have a lot of prepared foods, snack foods, etc. Everything is reasonably priced. They do have a large enough parking lot, and usually we park on the side to avoid the chaos.

Though, they have no area to sit down. They have good prices on some of their produce and other things. I also like that the prices are bold. LOL. NOTE: They do no allow photos!!! I answered, "Oh, I am going to write a review." He looked puzzled, then replied, "We don't allow photos!" Oh, ok this person is on staff at the market. Alright. I am not deterred. I end up buying desserts which they had it at the cash register selling three for $10, I decided to try it. Not bad at all. They said they had to check the camera and could not do it at that time, so they asked me to go home and wait for a call ( pork feet were sold by the pound, it would be very unlikely for two separate purchases to have the exact same weight and price ) 5 DAYS later, they finally called and said they had checked the camera and would refund me when I came back. I did get my money back, but I think the way they handled such a simple mistake was very unprofessional and wasted a lot of my time I had a similar issue at 99 Ranch with a more expensive item, and they refunded me immediately If you shop here, check your receipt before leaving to avoid wasting time like I did

I really want to like Hashi Market, especially since it's supposed to be a Japanese market, but…read moreI've been disappointed by how slowly it has actually transitioned into one. Hashi still feels similar to the old Marina Market that occupied this location. For a store presenting itself as Japanese, there are so many basic Japanese grocery items I expect to find but often don't. The selection doesn't come close to a market like Mitsuwa. Even things like natto, certain Japanese sweets and snacks, and Japanese-style seafood items such as salmon roe are either missing or much more limited than I would expect. I expected the selection to become more distinctly Japanese after the change from Marina to Hashi, but the transition is taking an awfully long time! At this point, it often feels less like a Japanese supermarket and more like the previous Asian/Filipino market with some Japanese products added. Some of the prices are much higher too. At this point, I am losing hope. There are positives. I really like the produce section, especially the selection of leafy green vegetables and many of the fruits. The store has also been cleaned up considerably and is much better organized than it used to be, which I appreciate. But if Hashi wants to position itself as a Japanese market, I wish it would commit much more fully to actually stocking the range of Japanese groceries people go to a Japanese supermarket to find. Right now, if I specifically need Japanese ingredients or specialty foods, I'm still much more likely to make the trip to Mitsuwa or other Japanese markets.
