After coming across Linda's Catering for the very first time, I'd be lying if I said they got me all that excited. Not that appearances are everything (and not to be mean), but if I ran into these guys at an Off The Grid event or Spark Social, I'd probably walk right by without even giving them a second thought. However, after passing by them numerous times at the same spot by 4th on Townsend? Sure, I was willing to give them a shot! If there was ever a mom-and-pop food truck, Linda's Catering would definitely be it. While not as old school as those OG taco trucks and "roach coaches", these guys certainly aren't as modern or fancy as the likes of KoJa Kitchen with their LCD menu screens. Along with my disappointing curry rice dish, service here isn't all that quick (unlike most other food trucks). We wanted something a little different for our wedding reception so we went looking for some interesting food truck options to cater. Stumbled across Linda's Catering when looking online for asian options and went to go try out her ramen. Straight off the truck, the miso ramen was really amazing and a decent portion for lunch or dinner. I also tried her spicy tuna burrito, which came highly recommended and that was tasty too. Basically it's a ginormous maki roll. After deciding to have Linda be one of our caters for the wedding reception, it was extremely pleasant and easy to work with her. She runs a small business and was more than willing to accommodate us anyway she could help out. Her prices were very reasonable and for what our guests got, it was definitely worth it! Our guests loved the ramen and thought it was very fun and it provided just the right thing on a cooler outdoor evening reception. We ended up getting half portions to not overwhelm everyone with all our different food truck foods and it worked out great. I cannot say how nice Linda was or how hard she worked to make our wedding special. She was always all smiles and it was so kind that she was really happy to be part of the whole wedding and wished us well. Not getting the 1 stars but not getting the 5 stars either. At the first TreasureFest (formerly Treasure Island Flea) of the year, I picked a bad time to hit the food trucks, with most having huge lines already, and a favorite Antonik's letting people know the next batch of pork skewers was almost done. So I did the logical thing and went to the truck with the shortest lines, which was Linda's. Sure, a bowl of soup probably isn't the easiest to eat, but a sushi burrito sure is. And they had a chicken katsu (spelled kazu) burrito and that is what I was feeling. It was okay - the first bites definitely fried great and got a good mix of chicken, rice, and avocado. Towards the end the chicken was very stringy but still decent enough. Basically I wouldn't go out of my way for this truck at the next TreasureFest, but if I wanted something quick I'd come back. read more

Correction to the review below: Linda's now serves ramen DAILY, not only on Fridays! I was really skeptical about this because it's literally a random white van parked outside my work (and limited Yelp reviews didn't help), but the LOOONG lines outside are what got me curious. I went yesterday for lunch and was very pleased. I got the miso ramen, first thinking it was going to be super small, but I stand corrected. The ramen noodles were one of the best I've ever had. So thick and flavor packed. The egg MADE the dish -- I wish there was more! Other than that, the pork was good, but not amazing. It would be good to have more meat options in the future, or seafood (my fave). But definitely an amazing lunch and I really encourage you to try this. Pleasantly surprised to find a Japanese food truck. I ordered the Chicken Kazu (chicken curry). Food came with a side of vegetables (steamed broccoli and carrots) which I really appreciate. The fried cutlet had a sauce dripped over it that I wasn't a fan of. I could do without the katsu tasting sauce, especially eating it with curry. The curry itself was the watery prepared style which was decent but it could've used a few more curry spices. I like the onions and potatoes included in the curry but wish they put a little more. In general, I know Japanese food is 'normally' quite expensive, I paid $8 for the meal and comparing with other Japanese restaurants its decently or average priced. I still think I pay way too much for meals in the city and for a food truck, come on! For not dining in a restraunt, that's robbery. Not a surprise since most food trucks are hella overpriced and maybe its because they know they can spike up the price in that area. I don't typical write reviews as my threshold for quality is pretty low, but this time I'll make an exception. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento from here and I think it's the first time I've ordered a bad bento box... ever. Most of the pieces were average, but acceptable, however the chicken was just terrible. I've had various degrees of chicken in my life, and I probably could have gotten over it being a little dry and such, but this just plain tasted bad. In their defense, perhaps bento boxes are not their speciality which was clearly evident after giving it a spin. Skeptical of food truck sushi I have been walking past for months, but seeing she's been doing a good business I finally had the Salmon Sushi Burrito today. Reviewers commenting on the gracious service are right on. She wanted to know how I preferred it and sweetly made it to my specs. (OK: I am an old curmudgeon but why is polite service uncommon at owner operated businesses???) Salmon was super fresh tasting. Loved the variety of veggies:cucumber, carrots, shiitake (guessing on the mushroom variety). I don't agree with reviewers who felt it was overpriced / not a good value. I had ordered the spicy tuna burrito, as did my friend, and we were both highly disappointed because the rice was undercooked and underseasoned and the tuna was chewy (in a weird way). Overall, the sushi burrito was on the dry side and we stopped eating. This time, it was a completely different experience. The feyoncé picked up a spicy tuna burrito for me to snack on. At first, I was completely disappointment when I found out where he got it. But I was hungry, so I gave it a try. A complete 360. The rice was cooked and the tuna was tender, flavorful. Update: Linda's serves RAMEN on Fridays! There are two broth options: Tonkatsu and Tonkatsu + Miso. The Tonkatsu with Miso tastes delicious: Not too salty, a bit meaty but mostly very smooth, and not oily. The toppings are perfect: Good pork (not standard cha-siu), half a soft boiled egg. Noodles are chewy. Both me and my co-worker felt perfectly full afterwards. It's nothing unique, but well executed and delicious. I hope they keep serving it. $9.00. Original: My entire office is in love with Linda's Catering... well, a lot of it has to do with being in love with Linda. Don't get me wrong: The curry, sushi-burritos, katsu, and teriyaki all hit the spot. It's not gourmet, but every dish comes with enough little details, like pickled veggies, very solid rolls (better than Safeway's by far) and good meat. There's a little too much rice, but better too much than too little. Try the teriyaki and rolls combo. The best part is Linda. She's super nice, Japanese, English and Cantonese speaking. My second time there, she apologized for the beef she gave me last time -- she had tasted it after the fact and it was too salty... how often does a restaurant apologize for last times mistakes? (She gave me a free soda.) From what I understand, they used to own a brick and mortar restaurant but they sold it and started a food truck so they could spend more time with their kids. Work lunch spot! Linda's Catering has a little bit of everything and more: sushi rice burritos, Japanese fusion burritos, teriyaki and katsu bento boxes, curry, ramen, and roll combos. How can this humble little truck have such restaurant variety? That day, we ordered the salmon sushi burrito ($9) and a beef teriyaki and California roll bento ($9) to share. Both were on-point and satisfying. Salmon sushi burrito contained spicy raw salmon, shredded carrot, avocado, cucumber, and rice all rolled up into the perfect portable lunch item. Delicious and very fresh tasting! Beef teriyaki bento was generous too. A good amount of well prepared beef, on top of a bed of rice. Personally, I would have liked a little more teriyaki sauce to devour the rest of the rice. California rolls and side salad were nice accompaniments as well. There are very few affordable Japanese lunch options by SOMA, but thankfully Linda's has it all. On colder days, I'll be back for the curry rice and ramen. My friend and I snuck out from watching the Giants game to hunt for yummy Asian food ( to be honest, I was a little afraid because the truck didn't look cute and inviting but was pretty hungry so we decided to give it a try) and it was like an oasis!! Amazing!!! :). Literally the BEST food truck - I've had a lot of good ones, in LA, near Chinatown near the Transamerica building, Santa Monica, and downtown LA. The truck doesn't look cute but the food is soooo yummy! And the service so very sweet and friendly, it felt like a neighborhood staple. Linda was really friendly and fast with the food. I like that there's two options for salmon sushi roll. Wasabi with soy sauce or spicy salmon. Yum! Salmon portions was generous after I requested for extra salmon which came with a $3 additional charge, making my meal $12. The price is comparable to sushirrito. Japanese food truck, hidden gem. For some reason, "Linda's Catering" doesn't immediately cause one to picture Japanese fare. My friend works close to here and likes to get their cold noodles -- good, light/healthy fare so that you don't conk out at work after your lunch break. I tried the chicken katsu curry. The curry was thinner than I expected, but both the curry and chicken katsu flavor were excellent. Lunch items hover around $8, which would be pricey elsewhere but average in SOMA. They have other assorted snacks and drinks for sale at very reasonable prices -- $1 for a bag of chips? $2 for coconut water. And I think it was $1.50 for a can of soda. Hope to be back. read more

I've only had the Spicy Salmon sushi burrito ($8.50), and I'll have to say I liked it better than Sushirrito. It was huge, and had a lot of delicious stuff in there - essentially a spicy salmon roll with plenty of avocado and other goodies that I should have written down. The lady, who I'll presume is Linda, is very friendly, and offers samples. I've been waiting to try their Katsu Curry, and will update the review at that point. We are I world that is corporate owned....n we need support our small business owners Some recommendations if you can updatexthexmenu pictures and laminate them at kinkos or any where else the pictures don't fade and it looks a little nicer and attach with reversible Velcro tape. It's basically just a giant uncut sushi roll, but we'll call it a burrito. I think Ms Linda caught on that burritos are a hot commodity in San Fran. This truck serves up some seriously cheap sushi too. Don't want to pay $14 at Nama, but don't want to stoop as low as Safeway sushi? Pull out some cash and head over here. Sushi combos are $7.50-$8.75. Bento boxes are $8-$9 and ramen is $9. Look for the red lantern. Linda will fulfill your lunchtime needs. read more

I am very surprised that this business is still.. well, in business! They took over an hour to give us and others our food. They also taxed us illegally on certain items that in the state of California, for food trucks, are not suppose to tax. So my husband and I wasted our weekend at a festival/flea market that we paid $10 to get into with the time we had to only wait in this line. Many others were talking about this around us and were blown away. Their friends, families and significant others would come back with their food and they had nearly 45 minutes ahead of then.. and it seems like employees really don't care by the way they looked like they weren't hurrying or giving others the common decency to say there is at least a 45 minute wait and to come back rather than stand there. This is by far the worst food truck I've been to and I've been to many so that is saying something. Wished I had looked on Yelp first but now I know to do so before I go wasting my time again. Also, if you were wondering how the food was... it wasn't that great and most definitely not worth the wait. Boo to Linda for running a horrible business that is also a scam. I have going for 2 years ever since she opened. Initially I was bit suspect of a sushi truck. I tried it once and found it delicious with some trepidation and now go once a week and have been very happy with the quality and freshness of the sushi. Other things on the menu are pretty good as well. I decided as her own proprietor Linda needs to be very careful about the sushi as one bad customer could ruin her business. Nothing in this place is fresh. I've had the chicken Katsu here and it was not up to par. Decided to get some curley fries here today because I was in a hurry and there was no line. Regular frozen curley fries that you get anywhere. 6 bucks pretty steep already, but they decided to charge me 6.50 just because they felt like it. and they portion was small AND it took close to 15 minutes to make.
