They they not really interacted with me. They just said, open your eyes. Be still. I was informed by them five years ago they were the only ones in the state that does the surgery. So I had to do it with them. They charged me $1880 for their facility fee. On top of my copay. My insurance won't pay their facility fee. This fall I had secondary cataracts that had to be removed Again they told me the same thing and recharging me the same price I called around, talk to my insurance and found a minimum of 10 other doctors in this town that will do that surgery and charge my insurance without me having to pay a huge facility fee... I don't think it's fair, especially to the elderly who are living on Medicare. The people the front desk were very nice.

Ophthalmic Associates - Being a community care network provider is a contract between you and the VA Community Care Network, and asking me to sign this violates it

I am concerned that she is preying on other veterans. The form I was asked to sign for care under a VA Community Care Network referral stated that medical insurance coverage is between me and my insurance company, that they are not "party" to that contract, that I would be responsible for balance if denied by my insurance, and that I would be responsible for the timely payment of my account. This may apply for certain health 'insurance' plans, but I can assure you this is not appropriate for veterans being referred in the community care network under the VA medical benefit. Ophthalmic Associates, TriWest is the company that manages the VA community care network here in Alaska, and there is no way that they would have been able to assign my referral to Ophthalmic Associates if there was no contract between you two. If your staff member who claimed to have 20+ years of billing and coding experience thinks that turning someone away from medical care for refusing to sign her illegal form is appropriate, then your medical providers should evaluate who they have on their payroll and the ethics which your group is operating under. If she is still employed there, I am grateful that your practice was not involved in my medical care. I desire integrity in my medical providers. Nothing on the TriWest website indicates that you have any right to bill a veteran in any way, shape, or form when they are receiving care under a community care referral/authorization. https://www.triwest.com/en/provider-handbook/billing-and-claims/#:~:text=Payments%20made%20by%20TriWest%20or,a%20Veteran's%20episode%20of%20care

Dr. Crawford is the reason I let my concerns about the rest of the staff slide for many years. During the pre-exam procedure, permission is asked for one particular test; cost approx. 30 dollars out of pocket. And even though I always decline, I appreciate the heads up. I started out as a patient with this clinic when their location was on Northern Lights Blvd., years ago. Then, it was rather like visiting someone's cozy home and provided the Alaskan memories of days gone by. Present day, Accurate Vision is more streamlined, and I'm not sure the word clinic jives up anymore, but no matter. Look for Urgent Care as a prompt to this place's building location which will be on your right while heading North on Minnesota Drive (toward downtown). Enter around the back of the building, and take the elevator which is just inside the door. Dr. Kyle Smith comes recommended in my book. He hasn't steered me wrong (as I have experienced with other eye doctors) thus providing thorough exams and correct prescriptions. His manner is upbeat, kind and professional. I am not too thrilled with the front desk service here, as there is an omnipresent thread of tension, and I don't know why. Also, the service provided with follow up texts after having set up an appointment, definitely needs some polish. I received 4 texts stating that I needed to fill out paperwork. Okay, but one method offered was to be done via a link, on my phone, which didn't work. I texted back that I prefer actual paper in person, and was given the response of yes, that will be fine when I come in. Come to find out, I didn't have to fill out any paperwork at all. (Alrighty then!) I came in for an eye exam 3 days before Christmas. This was not such a great idea on my part. I was burned out and so was the doc. (And most likely for entirely different reasons!) Having done some research, the cost for glasses here are definitely on the high side, so being able to take my script and go, is a big plus re: my budget. As much as I would love to try the glasses here, (and having insurance definitely helps) my wallet is still speaking otherwise! Having been to SO many eye clinics in my lifetime, Accurate Vision has been one of the best for me, if only because of Dr. Kyle Smith.
