I've been a patient of Dr. Bancroft even since my old doctor retired about 10 years ago. I looked for, and found a single doctor office with personal, attentive service with Dr. Bancroft. My husband and I actually like Dr. Bancroft BETTER than our old doctor. He does some pretty cool, thorough tests our previous doc never did, and there's no additional charges. He's EXTREMELY THOROUGH and friendly. He's staff has their act together as well. He also has a second location in the valley, which is convenient for people around the region. I'm surprised more people don't know about Dr. Bancroft, he's a best kept secret when it comes to eye care!

I've learned to bring a book, knitting or of course have a fully charged phone or iPad with me. The Techs that perform the plethora of tests are all wonderful and after so many years, a few of them remember us. They do a quality job taking care of his precious eyes... eyes are indeed precious and we are there every six months. The waiting room is almost always jam packed, they have a coffee station that seems to have troubles every time we are there, which for some may be operator error and unfortunately, it's uncomfortably cold in there. The building is an old home that has become a commercial building and the insulation just isn't up to par for our climate. The waiting room is beautiful…read more The first time I went there, they ran us through like cattle, 10 at a time to be taken in the back and then out the door and then the next 10. it didn't feel very personal. They they not really interacted with me. They just said, open your eyes. Be still. I was informed by them five years ago they were the only ones in the state that does the surgery. So I had to do it with them. They charged me $1880 for their facility fee. On top of my copay. My insurance won't pay their facility fee. This fall I had secondary cataracts that had to be removed Again they told me the same thing and recharging me the same price I called around, talk to my insurance and found a minimum of 10 other doctors in this town that will do that surgery and charge my insurance without me having to pay a huge facility fee... I don't think it's fair, especially to the elderly who are living on Medicare. The people the front desk were very nice.

They were the only place that could get me in as soon as possible, and that was 3 weeks out. I was a new self pay patient since I have become a stay at home mom and no longer have insurance through my previous employer. I have had contacts/glasses since grade school and am very familiar with costs of contacts and office visits but even so I called around and asked about self pay costs and although this place quoted me the highest, they were the only ones that could get me in the "quickest." I thought there would be no way that my visit would be more than $300 just based off of my prior experiences at other eye care facilities. Boy was I wrong. The cost of the visit, although it was very thorough, was $450! Outrageous. This did not include anything other than the exam itself. I had to pay an additional $100 to fill my contact prescription and I thought I would check out some lenses as I'm due for a new pair of glasses they quoted me $450! I'll stick to getting my exam at another facility next time as I learned my lesson the hard way. If you have insurance, great! If you don't, you might want to take your business elsewhere because the average price at most offices for an exam is $250. Lesson learned.

I don't understand the negative reviews. I've gone here for years and had the best service. They are the best. --- Dr. Dobson is the best. And I've lived in big cities. YES, you will generally wait ~1 hr for your appointment, BUT he is considered the best in Anchorage. And this does mean he takes his time with you, TOO. Your appointment will not be rushed. Also, he has fit me and family in after-hours. He loves the cutting edge and is always getting new tech every few years. Unlike other places, every client at every visit goes into their "dark room," which has all the fancy tech (like 5+ machines). I like all the fancy tests done on my eyes. When you come here over time, you can see any changes in your vision, eyeball shape (very expensive machine, I asked questions about it), etc. Dr. D was able to diagnose a young girl with cancer really early, based off something he saw in these tests. This was before other doctors caught it. He is good at what he does and always tries to stay ahead of the curve. He's always reading and studying things. As a major plus, this place is incredibly hygienic. They wipe everything down all the time, which I appreciate, since I'm putting my face near/on it. People have asked on this Yelp page why his exams are more expensive. It's probably because (1) the extra technology and results received from it; (2) supply and demand. He is always booked and always has well-paying clients. Most of his clients come as referrals. That's how we found out about this place. If he lost clients over cost and couldn't run the business, he would have to decrease prices or shutdown (econ 101). I've since moved away to a big city, and the reason I'm writing this now is because I'm having trouble finding another doctor just like him. I wish there were more Dr. Ds around.
