Besides the Dairy Godmother, the Purple Goose is always on my must visit list whenever I am in the…read moreDel Ray area. It's a tiny store but every nook and cranny is filled with children's clothes, books, toys and shoes. Everything is very stylish and well curated (and also a bit expensive too! The outfits here are more for stepping out and not your average Carter's layettes). If you are looking for a unique and fun gift for a baby shower, this is the place to go! If you are looking for deals, they will sometimes open up the consignment shop next door and I've seen some awfully cute dresses that would look great on a holiday card! They are also offering a deal on Yelp where you can get $20 worth of items for $10 which I'll have to take advantage of soon!

Ok, they definitely have cute (expensive) new stuff and you might find some actual deals on the…read moreconsignment racks. I do love that all the consignment is in absolutely perfect condition. You'd never be able to tell anything was other than brand new. The (bizarre) negatives: -Extremely inattentive staff As in, I was by myself wandering the store and had to walk around shouting for someone to ring me up. Does theft not exist here? Seriously, I don't particularly appreciate overbearing store employees elsewhere, but this place goes to the opposite extreme with no one on the floor at all! There were no other customers in the store, and the front desk phone was ringing and ignored. -Impossible to maneuver the most compact of strollers or car seats. So...a children's shop that is adults-only? Note that Bellies & Babies up the street has play areas for kids (inside & out) and nice, wide open spaces. -No itemized receipts. You only get a credit card receipt with a total amt charged, or nothing with cash. Odd. How the heck do you handle return/exchange or check for clerk accuracy?? -Crazy mark-ups. So I get the "shop local" benefits. I'm into it. However, I assume any shop is buying things wholesale and charging me fair retail. I purchased a cute item here and went online to the manufacturer's website and discovered I'd been had. The item sells for $27 online *retail* (not on sale, and certainly not wholesale), but at the Goose it sells for $39.99!!! That's completely ridiculous! I wouldn't shop here again without phone in hand to check their pricing. It's one thing to spend an extra dollar or two to buy something local and in person, but marking something's RETAIL PRICE up by 50% retail is egregious. I'm considering returning it but see above point re no receipt...

I had seen some of these high end, designer baby/toddler clothes before..but at *much* lower prices. But where? Ah, of course, the Old Town Warehouse sale. Right. Thank goodness for the teeny tiny clearance section because the "regular" prices here made me feel weak in the knees, and not in a good way. It is a really cute store, and for those moms and dads who are OK with paying one hundred bucks and up for a shirt that his/her child will grow out of in a 3 month span..that's fine. But, I will be sticking to the clearance stuff and the warehouse sales.

So, when a…read morefriend's son turned one last week, I decided to pop into this little store in the new shops of Slater's Lane for a gift. I think little kid's clothes are so cute... it's like dressing up dolls. This place has some really cute but VERY expensive stuff. We're talking about $150 teeny tiny jackets that a kid will grow out of in a few months. I've been in here a few times and right now they're having a 50% off sale on winter clothes. Everytime I come in here there's some obnoxious woman acting like she's the Devil Wears Prada woman, shopping for her offspring but letting the kid run amuck. The lady who runs store is nice enough but not very helpful. Considering how tiny the place is, you'd think she'd notice us standing at the register waiting to check out instead of folding fifty-dollar Italian bibs. That brings me to wonder who these clothes are really for. Like the kids give a crap about designer silk pajamas that they'll probably wet the bed in. I guess it's better off I don't have kids.

This is a great little shop in Lee Heights that offers high quality (though not outrageously…read morepriced) Women's fashion and accessories as well as adorable high end baby and toddler clothing. They also offer a great selection of unique gifts and other special items that you can't find at the countless big box stores that have taken over almost everywhere else here now. It's like visiting...Etsy...in person. If such a store existed of course. Obviously only a very very small, and very highly curated BIT of Etsy, but still...it's etsy-esque. In a good way. Well worth a visit. Especially for those "extra hard to shop for" and "already have everything" types. They're also great for the many miscellaneous gift needs that pop up throughout the year for coworkers and teachers and other people you might not know very well and whose gift options fall uncomfortably in between even the classiest target dollar bin options your best friends might love, and the fancier more expensive fare reserved for one's own children, close relatives, spouses... The "I don't really know what, but ideally something special and memorable and cool" gifts for all sorts of things like secret Santas, teacher appreciation, miscellaneous baby/bridal showers, office party exchanges, attempts to gain favor or acceptance from cringey or critical or perfectly lovely mother in laws...etc. This place is perfect for all of those and more. I've found awesome Christmas presents for my mother here two years in a row now, and many fun things for myself as well. Best boutique baby clothes section I've seen in the Arlington area, actually. Oh! And Scout bags galore!

I stumbled across this store yesterday and decided to take a look around since the window sign said nothing over $15. A few things caught my eye as I picked the racks. This store reminds me of an adult Claire's. There are a lot of the same types of things (sweaters, pull overs, shaws, etc) in different colors or patterns. The store was cute, clean and set up well. The prices were nice but the quality isn't there. This is a cute place for a quick accent piece or something fun. A no name jewelry, headband or fuzzy slippers aside from the layering pieces I mentioned above. I did buy two things and the woman at the desk wasn't particularly friendly- nor did she acknowledge me or put her phone down right away when I laid my things on the counter. I don't mind a cellphone, it's the times (mind you I'm 32) but she was older than me and knew better. Unprofessional- so I docked a star. I will return but probably not a regular basis type thing.

It is usually worth my time to visit. Nothing over $25. All the earrings were $10. I got three pairs today. I also scored a gorgeous scarf that I would have happily paid $25 for and it was $10. It was a beautiful water color looking design in a blush pink with a couple white flowers and the green leaves were a lovely tone. Sometimes you don't find anything, but it is worth it to drop in here and there. It was great for Christmas presents last year. I find the ladies that work there helpful, cheery and accommodating!
