The dental office refused to accept it and after a week I stayed on the line with Horizon Blue so their representative can inform the dental office on what has transpired and also promised to fix it within 24/48 hours. Unfortunately, the dental office continued to refuse to work with us despite the call and the proof of coverage letter and on the day of the surgery informed us that we need insurance or cancel. we have had no choice but to cancel an emergency dental appointment. Very disappointing considering the great reviews. It is rather disheartening to listen to the hold music and announcement touting their "flexibility" for those uninsured when an actually insured person can't even get the appointment.

His equipment is state of the art. He constantly goes to trainings. His technique is always up to date. Best dentist ever! Also I read the review by the unsatisfied customer. Dr Liu is often preoccupied thinking about the difficult cases he handles. His wife speaks English as a second language. I have never had a problem with his wife. Her manner is just a bit distant but I've never taken it personally. They work so hard there. The bottom line is that Dr Liu does EXCELLENT work on intricate dental procedures. He did an implant on me to correct a botched root canal I had done overseas. I will forever be grateful to him and his staff for saving my teeth. Also it's true that they sometimes have to rush off to pick up his kid from school. It's not easy being a working parent! He's still the best dentist around imho.

His wife who is his secretary and office manager is even worse with very rude attitude. I've been here 3 times for cleaning. The first time Dr. Liu was good. Friendly and explained things to us. Each time after he just got colder and his visits got quicker. The third time he didn't even say hi when he entered the room and was cold and brushed off all our questions. His wife on the other hand was never friendly and got ruder and ruder the subsequent visits. This 4th time, we scheduled our cleaning at exactly 3:30pm for ourselves and our kid. We have our kid in school until 3:10 and don't live that close so we made sure to pick up him up 20 minutes earlier just so we can get there on time. Because that's the respectful thing to do. But when we got there at 3:28pm, we were surprised to find the front door locked, and the lights inside turned off! It was so weird. I rang the door bell many times, waited and rang the door bells again and again with no answer. I then called Dr. Liu's cellphone with no answer to the voicemail. Called the office phone and his wife picked up. I said we were there and the door was locked. She didn't apologize and said they went to pick up their kids from school and to wait. We waited until around 3:45pm and Dr. Liu came and unlocked the front door. When he saw me, no hi and no smile. NO acknowledgement of our existence and just walked to the back and disappeared. Wow! Sure it was not a long wait but it was the way they handled everything and not even apologizing and not even a hi when they saw us that really turned me off. We felt very disrespected and un-welcomed. I was upset and told his wife that it was not right that they didn't even tell us they had the office closed and locked and were running late and that we respected their time and picked up our kid earlier from school just so we can be on time for them. I cannot believe Dr. Liu's wife started rudely arguing with me saying it was just a few minutes and that it was not a big deal. I told her it wouldn't have been a big deal if they had notified me what was going on then to have us come to an empty office that was locked. But she continued to rudely defend themselves saying they did nothing wrong. That's when I said, we were leaving. Just wow! This really shows you how unprofessional and unethical this place is. This is not how you treat your customers. Now reflecting back, every time when we sign and pay the bills after our services, Dr. Liu's wife always said to us: "we charge extra, and if there's any left over after insurance, we will reimburse the money back to you". To this date, there has been no reimbursement from Dr. Liu's office. This wasn't even a big deal if they had been nicer. But sadly we felt disrespected and were clearly mistreated

Dr. Forbes did root canal on my tooth and I had maybe a second of pain , which I thought was remarkable. The first thing I needed was root canal. Rather than pulling the bad tooth, Dr. Forbes decided to build up the tooth so that I could keep my own tooth. He spent a great deal of time on it, which I think is admirable. I have had other dentists say my teeth were in great condition, and he was my dentist growing up. I'm just writing this as a slap-on-the-wrist for him and a warning to others to get a second opinion before spending lots of money on healthcare. As I mentioned above, Dr. Forbes was my dentist my entire childhood; I went to him once or twice a year (I don't remember). He referred my parents to an orthodontist for my braces and the orthodontist did a great job (as far as I can tell; I'm not an expert). Dr. Forbes is a friendly, polite, intelligent guy and so were the staff I interacted with. And he has a very handsome voice; I'm sure he gets compliments on it all the time. I just had one bad experience: in the summer(?) of 2009 I went to him for my routine check-up. At the end of my cleaning, the hygienist congratulated me and said that I had no cavities. Dr. Forbes then came in to do his final review, and he said I had TEN cavities. I'd had a few cavities filled before, but no more than around two (as far as I remember), and even two was a lot. Ten cavities was astounding. If I remember correctly, he said they were small but that I should get them filled now. He said the price for this would be $200 per cavity, for a total of $2,000. I remember the hygienist looked uncomfortable while he was talking, probably because it so wildly contradicted her diagnosis from just a few minutes earlier. At the time, I'd never had any bad experiences with any doctor or dentist, and I trusted these people like my own parents. I had also spent my entire life up to that point in the school system, where I had been taught to trust the older people (teachers, nurses, etc) who took care of me. I was very upset and embarrassed, but (if you can believe this, I barely can) as far as I can remember it never crossed my mind that this was an attempt to 'upsell' me rather than his professional opinion. So I told my mom, and we did as he recommended. We got the cavities filled. In hindsight, I realize this was happening in 2009 and I'm guessing the the financial crisis had hit our area hard (since we're right outside Manhattan and lots of people on Wall St. live in our area). If I had to guess, I would guess that he'd been getting a lot of cancellations over the past few months and needed some revenue so that he could continue paying his staff. It also seems plausible to me that this dental work may have been a fair deal / good idea, even at $2,000. I'm not an expert, so I can't say for sure. All I can say is that $2,000 was a lot of money to my family then, it took us years to pay it off (I think it was sent to collections), I haven't been back to see him since, and the whole experience has left me feeling sad whenever I think about it. The one good thing I can see from the whole experience is that the memory of that has made me much more cautious about spending money when doctors and dentists recommend it. Their incentives are not totally aligned with yours, and you should remember that. And again, other than that experience, he was great. And I'm not trying to imply I'm any better than he is; I'm sure someone could write a review like this about me from things I did years ago (although I haven't gone into business yet so it wouldn't involve money). So you should feel fine going to him. Just remember that his incentives are not totally aligned with yours.

Dr. Julia Igdalev was my dentist for almost the last decade and she was always amazing to talk to. She was always so careful with my teeth and I seriously felt little to no pain at all. Now, I see Dr. Jerry and he's just as awesome. I do not dread going to the dentist anymore! (And no, I no longer spit at them either! Haha) The new office is absolutely beautiful. The staff is always friendly and courteous. I usually never wait very long and I'm in and out for my teeth cleaning within my lunch hour so I don't have to use up a vacation day to come. I highly recommend coming here if you want a good dentist!
