Strawberries and local honey :0)
Theresa M.

Stopped by yesterday for some strawberries, and I am so happy I did! The strawberries are delicious! Convenient drive through for those who choose not to pick their own. I was also able to get some local honey, as well. Looking for fresh picked strawberries stop on by Liley Farms!

Old truck in the middle of the fields. Perfect if you want to take pics of the kids or families with it. Nice touch!

We were invited by some friends to join them in pumpkin picking and let me just say, they had tons of pumpkins to choose from. There were a few different fields full of pumpkins and you got to pick whichever one you wanted right off the vine. They had a nice selection as well. I've been to other farms before for pumpkin picking and they don't even come close to this pumpkin selection. Awesome job to the owners! Also, we enjoyed a hayride and corn maze which was really fun. Prices were very reasonable and the kids had a blast! We will definitely be returning next year!

I overheard another mom on my son's soccer team talking about going pumpkin picking here. I looked it up and realized it wasn't too far from my house. My son needed a pumpkin for school and it was going to be a gorgeous weekend so we headed out. Very easy to get to from Portsmouth. Once we arrived we were greeted and told to take a pair of scissors and grab whatever we wanted. They gave us a large cart for our convenience. Its a pretty short walk to the pumpkin patch but many kids my son included rode there on the carts that were provided. We found a great pumpkin pretty quickly. It appeared there were two fields with pumpkins but we just stuck to the one. It was a very hot October day and we were severely overdressed. We didn't opt to do the corn maze but I think it was $5 for adult and something a little less for kids and free for kids 3 and under. The pumpkins were 60 cent a pound and our find came out to a little under $2. We will definitely return during strawberry picking season.

We have come here several times and are greeted with friendly hellos. When usually arrive rather late, almost closing time and they are kind enough to let us pick and point us in the direction of the ripest berries so we can get pie buckets full before time to close. They never lurk over you and don't seem to mind if your buckets are filled to the top but they just ask that you get only what can fit in your bucket which seems pretty fair to me. They also sell fresh jam that is pretty tasty . I haven't purchased any yet but they had some to sample and I was pleased.

Last Saturday morning was amazing at the farm. My 4 year old daughter was able to pick strawberries for half an hour and chase butterflies down the aisles. I had never been picking and the staff was very helpful. they didn't fret when I confessed that she ate a few while we were picking. The lady said that sampling is the best part of picking. For only $10 we got a whole bucket of giant sweetest berries that lasted all week long! Every Saturday my daughter asks to go to the farm again.

When we arrived it was a lot of people there. They have cows, a playground, picnic tables, a hay ride (seasonal), a corn maze, apple and different fruit picking, a pumpkin patch, farmers market, ice cream, and etc. They also have port-a-pottys on site. This was my first time and me and my family enjoyed ourselves. Even though it was a lot going on people wise we were able to get a picnic table and had lunch there. They had 2 food trucks out there also. The kids were having fun on the playground which is a decent size. The hay ride ends at 2pm so we missed that. But it looked fun. The market part isn't big. But they have huge brussel sprouts, tomatoes, different local honey, pies, apple cider, watermelon, frozen meat, and like 10-14 different types of apples. I seen apples I never knew existed. I'd love to have tried them all. Their apple cider is delicious. I got a quart and made apple cider floats, and they were so good!! Add a little cinnamon sugar and pumpkin spice and it taste like pie!! My daughter had an apple cider slushy with vanilla ice cream and she was hooked!! She went 4 days in a row!! Lol. The baked goods were different pies, cookies, muffin tops, and more. Everything was priced reasonably. The people there were friendly and everyone was just having a good time. I recommend taking a trip out here if you want a laid back fun time!! Check them out!! (Check their website for updates on hours, certain activities are seasonal) Also if you're in the area check out the dinosaur park down the street in front of the Military Aviation Museum. The park is small, but it's free and they have dinosaur statues you can take pics with.

Decided to get on the monster truck before leaving (9/10); it was my first time riding in/on one and it was pretty fun. To ride was $10 per person. They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. Unfortunately, I missed out on their blackberry season that happened in May. In addition to the blueberries that were available for picking, peaches were sold in bushels placed on a table in their "store". Sometimes the owners are there to receive the money, and other times they run a honor system. Pencils were provided to write on the envelope to place it into the wooden box. The prices and size were posted on a sign the minute you walk inside. They were very reasonable, and fair compared to other farms. It was a hot sunny day, so the hubs picked quickly, since he tends to get sunburned and cranky lol. I'm the opposite, so I picked to my hearts content:) The blueberries were fresh and smaller than I'm used to. It tasted sweet and a little tart. The best part of it all, was that it was organic! Nowadays everything is sprayed, but this farm doesn't do that:) We revisited a few more times for picking. I knew the season was coming to a close, and needed some more to freeze. I made some cakes, and muffins out of the blueberries which lasted a few days. I sort of wished, I picked a large bucketful, cause as I'm writing this there is no more in the freezer. I'm sad lol We will be back!!!!

I love everything about pumpkin, so when I read about College Run Farm (CRF) serving homemade pumpkin ice cream, I was sold. My boys and I decided to take advantage of a gorgeous fall day and drove to CRF in Surry. If you've been to Chippokes State Park, you know how rural that road is and narrow. CRF is right up the road past Chippokes' entrance. We figured we might be the only customers there; we were shocked to see a full parking lot and many people. CRF has pumpkins available already picked, but what's the fun of that? We went to the pumpkin patch with our sheet in hand -I posted a picture- and cutters in order to cut the pumpkin off the vine. My boys decided they wanted Aladdins, and they were in Section 1, easy to find. My youngest picked a small pumpkin ($6) and my two older boys wanted bigger ones (regular $7). CRF does not weigh pumpkins and you use the honor system. You put down which pumpkins and how much on the sheet; put your pumpkins in your vehicle; and then you take the sheet to inside to pay. While inside, you can also purchase admission for the corn maze ($3 per person--free for 5 and under), which we didn't do, and homemade pumpkin ice cream, which we DID do--FTW! I thought their ice cream was a pretty good value: big waffle cones with two scoops for $3.50--especially being homemade. They also serve homemade strawberry ice cream in the spring during their strawberry season. We enjoyed CRF; it had a relaxed feeling, and we loved being able to pick our own pumpkins off the vine. They don't have lots of fall festival stuff such as a bouncy house or hayride, but that was fine with me. Surry is a bit of a drive from Suffolk, but combining a visit with Chippokes State Park, it could be an awesome day.

Their Facebook page indicates that you may only have another few days to catch this season's blooms. We went on a Thursday evening around 5:30 and only had a short line to get inside. The line was much longer when we were leaving around 7pm. It's $20 for 10 stems. That includes entry for up to 5 people. You can get an extra 10 stems for $10 and I think military gets an extra 5 just for showing their ID. You can't just go for the pictures, you've gotta pay. Dogs can come too- just make sure they are on a leash and you may want to bring water for them if you're planning a longer trip. They give you tips and the rules before you enter and supply you with a metal vase and cutters. I'd suggest bringing a basket instead of using their bucket though. After that the field is all yours.
