Then I traveled a short distance out of LA and I visited The Artesian of OJAI. Instead of long dark halls and elevators, it is like a gracious home with sunlight streaming through every window. Her apartment is wonderful, it even has its own patio. The great room and dining room are the main gathering spaces for the residents. The staff are so nurturing, so caring. It feels like a big family. The grounds are breathtaking. My sister can exercise by the pool or go on a morning walk with the other residents. I have been there to join in sing alongs and other activities. Most importantly, my sister is happy. She is content. Thank you to everyone at ARTESIAN! I am forever grateful.

I'm unsure why there are so many superlatives. I had total knee replacement. All that was done…read more(basically) was bending my knee and measuring bend. Once in awhile a few other things added - nothing consistent and then was told to bike for a bit. My total appointment was 25 minutes. Didn't feel like I was receiving the care I needed so I discontinued them and went to Swanner - what a difference! At least an hour - they warm up knee with heavy blankets before they bend it (and massage leg) and many other things. Will add more under Swanner.

I was also in A LOT of pain at first, so it's been slow going. I can't thank and praise Kathy Doubleday and the staff enough for their kindness, and patience with me. I am realizing that physiotherapy is different for everyone. For some of us it is merely physical, and for others like me, it is at a deeper, psychological level where many of our wounds are physically invisible. We have had to wade through those levels along with a few physical exercises. It's taking some time as I become aware of some basics which I needed, like inner tuning to my body and what it needs now, at 73 , because the needs of an aging body are different from those of someone half my age. As I walk and sit, I am remembering a new posture which lengthens and straightens, and my intuitive awareness is kicking in. We're not finished yet, and I look forward to more of this kind of physio which works on many levels. Many many thanks to Kathy especially, who is someone I have learned to trust, which is truly remarkable, for me, as trust doesn't come easily.
