If I need a special, unique gift for a birthday, wedding, or Mother's Day, Tradewinds is the first and last shop I visit. They have numerous handcrafted, exquisite items. I love that they have fair-trade and socially conscious products, and many local items as well. The manager, Tammy, is so helpful and friendly and she provides great advice when I'm looking for a specific gift. Many items are crafted by individuals with disabilities. One of the best things about Tradewinds is they provide employment training and opportunities to people with disabilities. Tradewinds is part of Coarc, the largest nonprofit organization in Columbia County, NY that provides services and support to individuals with disabilities. Some items I've purchased at Tradewinds...a colorful, one-of-a-kind hand-blown glass ball for my aunt to hang in her window, a cute birdhouse made from a gourd, handmade hair pins for my friend, and gorgeous blue and flowery ceramic coasters for a Mother's Day gift.

Snarky, rude and poor customer care…read more There is a sales woman with brown long hair and light eyes who was unapologetically rude and ruined her own sale. My husband was carefully replacing a few socks that my daughter (3yo) had disturbed from their place on display. The saleswoman started to wave her hand frustratedly in my daughter's direction, while repeating "could she NOT! Could she NOT!" Lady, she's 3! And it was being refolded and replaced. I hope the owner knows that I walked OUT. I was planning on spending several hundreds of dollars but, because of that poor attitude, why would I support a brand that hires staff like that?!? When my husband told the woman that this was unacceptable and he was replacing the items to their original place and folding them, she proceeded to tell him to "get a grip sir!" Staff training on customer care is lacking and should immediately be addressed!

I recommend saving all your best no-longer-needed stuff to donate here. For one thing, the city is full of people who don't drive ,and they appreciate having a fun and an affordable place to shop.
