This is my third trip to Barn on the Pond. Every time it just gets more and more magical. This time…read morewe were 13 people for a three day birthday celebration. We arrived on Friday night and kicked things off with a barbecue on the terrace. Everything you need for an easy and fun cook up is on hand. Most of the group were new to BOTP and the Catskills and were in awe of both. The accommodations are more fabulous than they look in the already great photography on the website, and so comfortable. Everyone was happy and we spread out across the barn, airstream and cabin. I slept in the solarium with hubby. Now he wants us to upgrade to king size bed at home. Propped up on all the fluffy pillows and bolsters for my morning read surrounded by the verdant scenery was a balm for this New Yorker's psyche. Hubby also took an instant liking to one of the armchairs. This one room is so versatile. One of the writers in our group used the desk during the day. When you close the doors it is very very quiet. The couples in kitchen and master bedrooms respectively slept soundly, while the mezzanine crew were equally happy and at ease. The cabin peeps, a father and son, were thrilled to have their own separate digs and absolutely loved it. Two gal pals had the airstream and they too rested well . In short we were all in our happy place and were all able to really relax. Everything through out the property sings inspired human. As a group we felt so blessed and connected, free and flowing. When our Saturday morning attempt to leave and go swimming was thwarted by a deluge we just danced and practiced yoga in the rain. This was just happy sober. When the skies did clear in the afternoon some of us went swimming at a nearby lake, some went for a scenic drive and checked out a whiskey distillery and some just lounged. Barn on the Pond is amazing, a luxury immersion in nature, the service from the Team incredible, we will be back next year for another birthday and to host a meditation retreat.

What a great experience!!! Terrific place for a weekend getaway. Peaceful, excellent, and wonderful.read more

Bubble hot bath soak two nights in a row before resting our tired city heads for the night. How wonderful. And now for the encore, dun dun dun. THE FOOD. I mean, of course, the FOOD! Gourmet breakfast,David Smythe is a chef/instructor at the Culinary Institute of America and Justine (hospitality queen/wife) is also a graduate of CIA so a powerful couple combined with a dope B&B, it's better than Disney World MAGIC. They have a plate of the freshest sweetest fruits ever waiting for you when you arrive, along with your requested beverage(s)... for us coffee and orange juice. A pitcher of OJ just for you. MMMM. I wonder where they pick the fruits from. Hm. After that, they feed you a croissant (being that I ordered blueberry pancakes), i just stared at my dude begin to stuff himself. And ta da- BLUEBERRY pancakes with BACON. it was so amazing. I'm not fond of big pancakes as it gets dried quick. David Smythe perfected the mini mes with flaky airiness and crispy sides. MMMMM. And perfectly cooked bacon. HEAVENLY. the aroma will also knock you off your feet while you wait. So the next morning, I order it again! This place has been PERFECTION. NOM NOM NOM NOM. Run, Don't walk from this rental…read more I am completely mortified by my experience renting this property from Kimberly. My wife and I rented it for our wedding. The entire process up to the wedding, and after, was very painful. She kept our deposit in full, claiming damages that were pre-existing. Our wedding planner, who also was our caterer, said that she was one of the most difficult people that he had ever worked with. Lets start from the beginning. Kimberly makes major demands while being completely unresponsive. We had to reschedule meetings over and over because of her, each time she only would only provide narrow windows where she was available. When I took a day off of work to do an onsite inspection with the florist and caterer, she did not even show up. She was the one that demanded the meeting. Here is where the nightmare begins. Kimberly was adamant that we get extra "cancellation" insurance for the event. We did not know why we needed it but we politely refused as our caterer/planner had great insurance. The day of our wedding the neighbor came over and said that our event was illegal and he planned to have it shut down. He said that it was Saugerties city ordinance that all rentals in town need to be for a week minimum and that we did not have a permit for an outdoor event as required. So Kimberly rented us the house for an event that was not allowed by the city of Saugerties unless you have a permit. No mention was made of this, but cancellation insurance was pushed on us hard. The neighbor had expressed that had had continued problems with Kimberly. The weekend was a rainy one and it is a country property. It was very hard to keep the floors clean and there were no door mats, only a tattered vintage rug which we pulled up and stored. There was no place for the wedding party to wipe their feet as they came in and out -- all others were kept out of the house. At the end of the weekend we took extra care to clean the house and floors. We spend 6 hours as a team to assure that the house was back to its original state using Pinesol and Myers floor cleaner (provided in the cleaning closet). When we asked the housecleaner what we should do with the extra food on checkout she said "Kimberly does not like any evidence that anyone has been on the property" so she threw the food out. I knew that I was in trouble at that point as KImberly has a maniacal sense of cleanliness. We paid an exorbitant rental rate and a huge event fee. Here is her list of charges she wanted to deduct from our deposit sent by her. Cleaning and waxing of floors $953.26 Porch floor staining/sanding $1200.00 Missing bowl $200.00 New rug $611.19 Cleaning $500-$285 $215.00 Firewood $50.00 TOTAL $3229.45 Kimberly had said that we had left circular scratch marks on the floors indoors and left the floors in a terrible state. I noticed the circular scratches when I arrived and asked the housecleaner about them. They were in various parts of the house and deck and they looked like someone had twisted a large potted plant to the floors leaving circular scratches. The housecleaner said that they had been there for a while. Kimberly also said that the Myers floor cleaner we used, from under the sink, had dulled the floors. I reminded her that it was a very wet weekend and that there were no floor mats and that the wedding party had no choice but to track in some dirt from outside. The driveway is made of a fine grey gravel and that brought a lot of silt into the house. She also accused us of having brought the wedding party into the house once the music was stopped, and had a rave in her basement. She said a neighbor knew one of our guests and told her. When I asked her to corroborate the story with the name of my guest or the neighbor she could not produce any details. Kimberly also told me that all people that came and went should have used the mud room in the back of the house. Can you believe that she expected all of the wedding party and event planners and vendors to all use the mudroom and remove their shoes!. So Kimberly FABRICATED this circular scratch damage and threatened to have us pay to refinishing all the floors. She said that the floors on the porch were damaged and soiled. When I pointed out that we were allowed to use the porch for the wedding and that it was a rainy weekend, she had no good answer. Kimberly also charged us for a bowl that had gone missing. She kept pressing this point until I told her that I knew that she found the bowl. She then immediately said that she had found the bowl. So she was charging me for a bowl that she had found -- not really good by any measure. I would run from this rental.
