I will never have words adequate enough to describe my experience at Sanctuary. I came across…read moreSanctuary when I was looking for somewhere special to spend my 30th birthday. I emailed the owner (Kerry) and we then spent an hour talking on the phone. She was warm and genuine and I felt as if I were listening to a travel essay. I was intoxicated first by the photos and then by her description and her passion. I opted not to spend my 30th at Sanctuary because I took my now Partner of 2.5 years there for our first weekend away. I had told her about Sanctuary on our earliest dates, but surprised her. When we pulled up on the snowy night she said, "Is that your church?" I was so intoxicated by the experience that I blurted out "I'm falling in love with you" when I promised myself I would let the relationship grow organically. When we arrived, the entire church was lit with candles and the fire place was roaring. Kerry met us and showed us the lay of the land. Like I said, I will never have words adequate enough to describe the experience. I can say that I do not ever remember feeling that at peace, or having stayed in such a beautiful, calming place. It was a sanctuary - it was heavenly (I am not religious). We spent the entire weekend sitting by the fire, cooking in the gourmet chefs kitchen, reading books, drinking wine, napping, taking bathes in the clawfoot tub. We left only once the entire weekend to pick up some staples. We returned the next year. We agreed we would return every year that we could. We have stayed in touch with Kerry. We hope she will never sell the place. We look at the photos, but the photos (which are intoxicating) will never do this place any justice. You must sleep and wake up with sunlight pouring through the stain glass windows. You must enjoy every detail. Kerry did not miss anything and restored the place with passion and love. Thank you, Kerry!

The amenities are incredible - dishwasher, washer and drier, a/c and a wonderfully complete kitchen (even had a juicer). Everyone had their own bed. It was super clean and we all loved the outdoor shower and baths. Sean and helpers were incredibly accomodating, and were available for help whenever we needed them. But at the same time, we never really knew they were around which allowed us to thoroughly enjoy some incredible solitude. The grounds are beautiful and wonderfully maintained without interfering with the natural surroundings. This place is perfect for those who enjoy being surrounded by nature's beauty without paying an arm and a leg. I looked a long time before I found this incredible space for a fantastic price. Thanks so much Artfarm. We'll be back!

The land is beautiful and backs up to some serious woods that were packed with newts and salamanders (very healthy ecosystem). We made use of the two four foot smokers, the large outdoor grills, and the kitchen. I looked extensively before booking and this was by far the best value in Hudson valley region. This would work equally well for a family as for large groups (like us). Beautiful scenery, great people to give business to, great amenities! Enjoy!

It retains the charm of an older estate but with modern amenities. For example, during our wedding weekend, it was extremely hot outside, so we were somewhat limited in doing outdoor activities during the day. Regardless, we were able to enjoy ourselves inside, with the spacious rooms, ample seating and indoor activities, and music throughout the space. We also had a great time doing karaoke! We loved that guests who wanted to go to sleep early could. The upstairs rooms are private, quiet and well-air-conditioned. And we loved that they each had their own bathroom! We also appreciated Henrietta, Matt and their team's efforts to make sure the catered dinner was a success. The food was incredible. We loved having the option to pick from so many dishes, and all of them were fantastic. Having them handle everything allowed us to just focus on the wedding and enjoy spending time together. Maybe the thing we appreciated most of all was how quickly they dealt with any requests or (minor) issues that came up. They felt like our partners throughout the weekend, responding quickly to questions and never making us feel like we were burdening them. At the end of the weekend, a few attendees remarked that they were thinking about doing a future event at Vanderbilt, because they loved it so much. We recommend Vanderbilt Lakeside without reservation!
