Lights Vision, Montefiore Hill, this is the place where Colonel William Light, the half English half Malay founding father of Adelaide, looked accross the Adelaide plains and said to himslef, "I'm thinking right anges."
And you too can experience the moment, complete with a larger than life statue of William himself, finger outstreached poitning towards the city that will become.
It is customary to take visitors to Adelaide to Montefiore Hill upon arrival, after showing them the Mall's Balls of course, and to say "well here it is, you've seen it now, should I drop you back at the airport?"
As much as I like to babble about how the mundanities of Adelaide are embodied in the grid pattern of our streets, I am appreciative of the vision of Cnl Light, above all for his parklands which are a blessing to the city and really set it apart from other places in the world.
Lights vision is really a lovely sopt, set amongst trees on a grassy knoll with a vista over the Torrens towards the city. I do like coming here, I just like joking about it even more. read more
