This sanctuary is an easy drive from Adelaide (30-40 mins drive)…read more Recently re-opened after being sadly closed for some time. We have been there before when things were in full bloom. So we did not expect things to be the same. Indeed they were not but we did not have unrealistic expectations. At the moment there's not much wildlife to see but the educational sessions are good and a nice amble around the place was worth our time. $10 per person entrance. That's when the feel-good factor ends. It's pretty obvious that a place that needs cash should run a reasonable cafe. After all, you have a captive market who need to eat. Well, the cafe is a disaster. The combined serving/cooking staff are totally disorganised. They're walking around, plates in hand, totally unaware of customers orders. Our two burgers never arrived. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of the elusive platypus but we did spot some kangaroos, wallabies, emus and my husband nearly stumbled over a sleeping bettong. Lots of turtles and aquatic birds swimming in the waterways and of course all the beautiful parrots, finches and galahs feeding on the other side of the café windows. Oh, and who could forget Charlie the talkative Corella who greets you on the way in. It's been years since we last visited Warrawong, perhaps nearly a decade however it's great to see someone has taken on the challenge of repairing and preserving this rich sanctuary. All the best to them!
