I never really believed in physical therapy. I always assumed I could find whatever might be necessary on youtube and then work-out any issues i have, on my own. In November I was playing one-on-one basketball at the JCC with my son (pretty dumb, i know - afterall, i'm 72 and he's 25)...and then afterwards i dont know what the hell happened, but my back was in these crazy-ass spasms. I called up a dear medical friend of mine and she strongly recommended this place. She called them up and got me an appointment "that day". I went over to lightport (quite reluctantly, skeptically but hoping for the best) and i must say, i felt a zillion times better immediately upon leaving. john told me exactly what was wrong with my spine and lower muscles (he explained something and a few medical terms but honestly i forgot what he said - i frankly didnt give a damn as long as he knew what he was doing and so long as he made it better!) I went several more times, once a week and now no longer go....all i can say is that this PT-stuff isnt mumble-jumble and John really knows his stuff he helped me and in the future, if i need any PT work i will unhesitately return here read more

LightPort is the best Physical Therapy experience that I've found in Essex County -- the true UNICORN of PHYSICAL THERAPY centers in our area. I have been recovering for years from Spinal surgery and moderate denervation in my leg. I've tried every mode of PT over the last 6 years time, both in Manhattan and in Essex County. I simply can't recommend LightPort enough. Here are 3 important differentators. #1 - This is a PERSONALIZED, 1:1, HANDS-ON treatment center. You walk into a private treatment room. Every other place I visited (a total of 5) was in what I call the "PT mill" style where you are in an open space with other patients; where the PT tells you to do an exercize and then walks away to treat another patient for over half the appointment... (or even worse... where there is a bait & switch so you end up with a student who treats you as a guinea pig). Not at LightPort. At LightPort... you get the best of the best, every time, spending time with you, understanding your issues and lifestyle factors, ensuring that you are not only feeling well during the hands-on treatment, but doing the stretches correctly... so that you can continue to do them in the right posture and form at home. You leave with an education on your own body. #2 - Dr. John DeHoyos has MAGIC, HEALING HANDS. He puts into practice his innate talent and caring personality, with deep experience/knowledge in physiology and the mind-body connection. He is highly trained and continually learns and educates himself. He is incredibly intuitive and finds way to motivate his patients to do right by their own health. John is a REAL DOCTOR, as opposed to a glorified personal trainer who pretends to be a DPT. #3 - Everyone you deal with at LightPort is invested personally in your care. It is clear that Damian cares about the patient as the most prized asset of the practice. Damian prioritizes the patient experience (from the moment they walk in the door to the time they leave... and even in-between sessions). He is simply perfectionistic and stellar in his approach to patient care. For example, I was very late yesterday. He helped by rescheduling the appointment that came after me so that I could have my full session. Obviously, this can't become a habit, but he was incredibly understanding. The carrot vs. the stick. He talked to me about how to stay in touch when I'm having issues with my schedule. He was so wonderful that I want... all that much more... to be on time or a bit early every single time. Damian has also worked with my insurance directly, taking the pressure and the paperwork off of me, which (as a solo parent of 2 school children) is huge. Dr. John and his team are highly dedicated and skilled in their profession. I had been suffering from back pain for a few months and with the physical therapy treatment I'm receiving here I can see some signs of relief just within the first few sessions. I recently moved into the state and brought my back pain with me. I was in a world of hurt and desperate for some relief when I randomly took a chance on a local business. Man did I score with LightPort. John De Hoyas met with me immediately, assessed my needs and went right to work. My pain subsided a bit with each visit and he sent me home with simple stretching exercises that I could do in between visits as well. My physical therapy sessions generally started out with a warmup on the treadmill, then moved on to gentle weight-lifting on a machine, along with stretching and balance work to get my core engaged properly. Then I'd lay on the table where he would stretch out my back before hooking me up to an electric stim massager. Every day when I left there I felt like a new man. John is totally dedicated to his customers and is a very personable guy. He really seems to care that his patient's health improves. I have had two knee replacements in the past year with the complication of PD on my left side. Walking into LightPort was a warm and welcoming experience. I have never seen a more caring team. Love my physical therapist and will not go anywhere else. The only PT I know that provides personalized one on one PT customized to each individual patient needs. It's not like the others where it's like an assembly line and they leave you alone to do your exercise alone. I came here after my husband had come and I am so glad I did. It's a spa like feeling with a really lovely staff. All of the therapists, admin and massage therapists are highly qualified with super positive attitudes.
