Turned off the circuit breaker to replace a lightswitch, upon turning the breakers back on I discovered no power through the entire house. I was prepared to have to wait since it's Memorial Day. Called Lighting Source, it popped up as the closest electrician with decent reviews. I actually did not get the gentleman's name (maybe it was Alex?). He was working on a job in the O.C. but was kind enough to Facetime with me and walked me through a few ways to fix the problem. Turns out my main switch was simply stuck in the middle position and just needed to be pushed to the off position with some force. I restarted all the breakers and power was restored and most importantly it restored my faith in humanity especially in this trying time. Thank you Lighting Souce! read more

It's taken me a long time to write a review for Lighting Source, but they really deserve a great one. The price was definitely right even as we kept adding things we wanted done. We were renovating our home and went for a full upgrade of the electrical system. Alex and company did exceptional work. We also had recessed lighting installed in every room. Alex made suggestions as to the layout and he did a great job. We added a bathroom a few months ago, and the contractor who did the work commented about how well the electrical was done. My wife and I purchased lighting fixtures on-line. We are located in NYC, but Alex Saravia (owner of Lighting Source) was referred to us by this on-line company for phone tech support. Our issue involved wiring the lighting fixtures to a multi conductor junction box. I would consider myself a somewhat knowledgeable electrical DIYer, but I was stumped on the proper wire configuration for our lighting fixtures. Alex was outstanding--he was patient, professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. He probably spent at least an hour coaching me through the proper connections--this is true customer service. I needed to get some quotes for some outdoor electrical work, and Junior came over same-day to discuss my dream option, minimum option, and then a middle-of-the-road option. Just having someone knowledgeable to hash out the ideas was really appreciated. After we decided on the best option for me, the crew was available that day so they got to work right away. They went above and beyond in getting the work done that day (this was the same day I called them even!) and after only a few hours they had the patio fully wired, and it was better than I hoped. These guys are just terrific. It is a family owned and operated business. They are knowledgeable, professional and they get your work done quickly and efficiently. I really enjoyed doing business with them. I was planning a minor kitchen remodel, mainly to replace an old gas cooktop and a crappy wall oven with a new electric, smooth-top range. My plans also included installing a new over-the-range, vented microwave oven. So I needed a 240 volt electric line installed in the kitchen for the new range and a separate 120 volt circuit for the microwave. The first guy I started dealing with flaked out on me. Then I called Alex at Lighting Source. He came over promptly to give me an estimate. He told me I would first need to upgrade the electrical service entrance panel from the existing 100 amp service to 200 amps. That was fairly expensive because, in addition to the parts & labor, it requires a building permit, passing the inspection, 2 service calls from the utility company and waiting time. But Alex's price was in line with the average rate charged for this job. I checked. Once his crew began the work, they were finished after about a day and a half. It passed the inspection and the city building inspector told me that they had done an excellent job. The next phase of the job involved running the new 240V line into the kitchen. That required a 45 foot run of unexposed conduit inside the walls/ceilings. That was started and completed today. So now the remaining work on my kitchen remodel can be finished in another day or two. While Alex's crew was here they also installed a 50 amp power cord on the new range and replaced a 3-way light dimmer switch that had been broken for years. No extra charge except for the cost of the parts. Alex also gave me some solid advice on other aspects of my kitchen remodel. I am very satisfied and would definitely recommend Lighting source to anyone needing electrical work, whether it is just a repair or it involves a major remodel or anything in between. They are licensed and insured and can handle both residential and commercial work. read more

I shorted out a light switch and couldn't get the circuit lit again. I called Lighting Source after finding it on Yelp. Alex Saravia, the owner, happened to be close by so he came to the house in less than 20 minutes. It turned out to be an easy fix but he explained what I did wrong. He also swapped out the light switches with low voltage dimmers that I had bought as part of an lighting upgrade. It turned out that our house did not have the wiring needed for the light switch features so we had to revert to the standard switches. Alex suggested an alternative and significantly cheaper solution for dimmers. Great service, takes the time to explain the options and best of all, he's local to Mount Washington/Montecito Heights. We were looking to get quite a bit of things done around the condo that we were moving into. We called a few people from Yelp and decided to go with this company because it was a family business and the owner gave us a good package deal. Well, his crew was very nice but unlicensed themselves, the work took longer than expected, they made some holes on the walls that seemed unnecessary, and we had a very hard time trying to get a receipt from them for the work performed....Don't get me wrong, the work was done well, but the whole experience of trying to get a receipt to prove that we have hired a licensed company was too much! If you decide to use them because you get a good deal in advance, make sure it is in writing (as required by the state licensing board). read more

I hired them to replace a ballast in one of m lights and they showed up within 30 minutes after I called at 7:00 pm on a week night and did the job promptly. I was very pleased and got a quote for them to install a ceiling fan and the requisite wiring that was needed. We made an appointment more than a week in advance for 7:30 am. I called at 7:30 am on the day of the appointment and woke Mr. Saravia up. He said he was in Arizona at a funeral and that his son would come by and do the work. Well I waited the whole day and his son did not show up or call. I am glad that I had someone else do it. Mr, Saravia was kind and honest when he showed up for the first job, but he cannot be trusted to keep an appointment. read more

Just had Alex put in some landscape outlets in my yard. He showed up on time for an estimate and came over 4 days later to do the work. He gave me an estimate for 5-6 hours of work but after trenching and running into large rocks on my hillside lot, it turned into a 9 hour job. Him and his helper stayed till dark to finish the work and he still stood by his original estimate. I gave him a little extra to help offset some of the unforeseen labor. He was a true professional and took pride in his work! I will def call Alex back again. It was great to meet a contractor who's still trust worthy and honest! read more
